A Haunting in Venice (2023)
Ok but not great
I've been a fan of Agatha Christie since I was a teenager and have read nearly every book she ever published. When I saw there was a new adaptation of one of her
stories I was interested to say the least. Kenneth Branagh is not my favorite actor to portray Hercule Poirot but I don't mind him. On the other hand Tina Fey should stick with comedy. She may be an exceptional writer of comedy but as a dramatic actress she is AWFUL. Every line she delivered sounded as if she was waiting for the punchline. She always had a smirk on her face that found off putting fur a murder mystery. The story itself was rather dull and the ending anticlimactic.
The Durrells (2016)
DID NOT LIKE IT
I had high expectations for it as it originally aired on PBS here in the States but I was very disappointed. The acting was fine but I found the people they were portraying to be utterly horrible. If the real life Durrell's were anything like the characters in this show I feel sorry for anyone that came into contact with them. The mother was a twit, Larry was a self centered narcissist, Leslie was dim witted, Margo was a vapid oblivious girl and Gerry was disrespectful as well as self centered. This may be the first Masterpiece Theater program that I disliked. I didn't care for the quirkiness that others obviously liked. I would not recommend it to anyone that wants to watch a quality series.
Pieces of Her (2022)
UNBELIEVABLE
Almost finished with episode one and I'm wondering why I started it. I know why, Toni Collette. She is an outstanding actress but even she can't save the flawed script. Daughter drops phone in garage then she sees an intruder. Rather than retrieving her phone to call 911 she follows the intruder into the house. The best weapon she can pick up is a paper tower holder??? She was frozen stiff in the restaurant during the shooting now she is going to save the day. She seems to be in a constant state of angst. She takes the intruders keys and aimlessly runs from vehicle to vehicle trying doors to see if one opens. When she does find the vehicle it is a newer model truck that undoubtedly has a key fob with an alarm on it or a door alarm that beeps when pressed. Is she mentally challenged? I've started it and I will finish it but it's not off to a good start.
Dynasty (2017)
Doesn't even compare to the original.
I was an avid fan of the original series. I started watching the reboot to see how it compared, it doesn't even come close. Grant Show does a decent job of portraying "Blake", Elizabeth Gillies does a great job as "Fallon", James MacKay is terrible as "Steven", Nicolette Sheridan as "Alexis" is probably the only actress that could even remotely come close to Joan Collins' portrayal, James Adegoke as "Jeff" is terrible and while I like Nathalie Kelley as an actress the writers version of "Krystle" is the worst. I could go on with the cast alone but why. The storylines are ridiculous. Don't bother.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
High expectations, sadly disappointed
The first WW movie was great! Finally DC had done something right. WW84 was a huge disappointment. The actors were fine but the story line was ridiculous. While I like Kristen Wiig in general, her as the villain did not track for me. The entire movie was a desperate attempt to reunite Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. It failed miserably!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)
Season 3 was the beginning of the end
I really liked seasons 1 & 2. The sets and the storylines were entertaining. Season 3 and into 4 were desperate attempts to lighten up the show, which it did not need. One of the things I liked most was how dark it was. The musical numbers were thrown in at random and added nothing to the overall story. I was sorry to hear that the show had been canceled but that was prior to watching seasons 3 & 4. Now I can understand why they did and I for one am glad they did.
