Relatos salvajes (2014)
A terrific black comedy
If this movie plays anywhere in your area RUN to see it. It was the most entertaining black comedy I have seen in years. I just saw this film with a packed house at the Palm Springs Film Festival. Rousing applause at the conclusion of the film. The film contained 6 unrelated tales of revenge. If the film ended after just story 1, I would have gotten my money's worth. That's how great this movie is! The director spoke after the film ended and said part of each story was experienced by him . That statement received a huge round of laughter from the audience. Once you see this film you will understand why. Great musical score enhanced the enjoyment of each story. All the actors were perfect for their roles.
Gloria (1982)
spin-offs
All in the Family actually spun off another show. You actually forgot another spin-off. Marla Gibb's character Florence from The Jeffersons was spun off in a series called Checking In (1981). It did not last and her character returned to her original show. That was a plus for The Jeffersons. She was brilliant on the original show but the writing was very weak on her spin-off.
Another show that caused multiple spin-offs was Love American Style...which gave us Happy Days which gave us Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, Joanie Loves Chacchi and Out of the Blue. In Mork and Out characters appeared only once in Happy Days and then they were spun off into their own series.
A Hatful of Rain (1957)
Great movie great acting great stars
For all you people who liked the film A Hatful of Rain you must get a copy of the play and read that also..It is brilliant. I taught the play for many years in my 12 grade English class. After we read it I would show the film. That film still holds up in many ways. I have noticed that that film plays often on Fox Movie Channel. Chance are you can catch it there if it is still not available to rent or purchase on DVD. All the actors in the film are perfect for their parts. Anthony Franciosa, Don Murray, Eva Marie Saint and Lloyd Nolan play their parts to perfection. Lloyd Nolan is VERY GOOD. His love for one son over the other over is played to the hilt. My students were most impressed with his performance. So will you.
Semper Fi: One Marine's Journey (2007)
One soldier's tale of war.
I just saw this documentary on Showtime. It was nothing short of terrific. I, also, was in the military so I can identify with Jeff. This was one moving documentary. If Jeff is ever in your town with this one-man show go and see it. I had tears in my eyes at the end along with the actual audience who was watching his live performance. He is an eloquent speaker and you will be clinging to his every word. Our military men and women are heroes in every way. Everyone needs to support them. The only shame is that not everyone is allowed to be a soldier. I believed Jeff when he said he always wanted to be a soldier. And he sure was a good one. Do not miss this documentary and tell your friends about it.
Um Filme Falado (2003)
One boring movie.
I agree with the above reviewer. This is one boring movie. I saw this at our local museum that shows a film series weekly. When the ending occurred the audience sat there dazed. It has great actors featured in this film. If it weren't because I visited these places there would be no reason to sit through this film. It was nice to see on screen places that I visited personally. This film looked like one long travelogue. But what a waste of time. Irene Papas and Catherine Deneuve looked great in this film. It was a joy to see them on film. If only they had a better script! Can't anyone write a good story anymore? Would it be too hard to write a story that doesn't make the audience sleep? No one walked out of my screening because no one was awake to do so!
A Family at War (1970)
Summary for A Family At War
I also saw A Family at War on my PBS station in the 70's and loved that show. I wish it was available on DVD. I wish BBC America would rerun it. Why is it out of circulation? This show was on every Sunday in my area for a year. This was before VCRs so I always tried to make it home to watch this show. In my area it was on at 5PM. The stories were so compelling. I really got into the family. One interesting filming note on the series was that somewhere in the middle of the run the series had to go to black and white tape. It seemed that the color tape people went on strike so some of the episodes had to be filmed in black and white. I think there are about a months worth of episodes in black and white. If you ever get to see this series or if it ever gets on DVD please try to get it. You will not be disappointed. The acting is top notch all the way. Every character is fleshed out. You will be so drawn into the continuing story that you will not want to miss an episode. This is a continuing story not unlike many soap operas. But once this one starts it will grab you and you will be hooked to the very last episode. This is a series not to be missed. Catch it from the very beginning.
