What a series this was. Surprisingly the makers didn't hold back on the violence and the gore which was a good thing. The BGM was quite eerie and hauntingly beautiful. In some instances you'll feel the scenes are a little stretched but it's fine given the original screenplay the viewers had the pleasure to watch. The only huge negative aspect of the series was the casting of Ashutosh Gowariker as the CID officer who investigates these murders. Don't get me wrong he is a decent actor. But I don't get the logic of casting a 60 year old man for a middle aged man. Also the makeup done on him was horrible to say the least. The role required an intense aura throughout in which Ashutosh fails miserably. Given the plethora of acting talent in the Marathi cinema, they would've gone for someone who actually fits the role. Sai Tamhankar and Sonali Kulkarni have given their career best performance.
The film is so bad I don't know why Nawaz decided to sign the movie. The writing of the movie is so bad that it feels like a school kid has written the screenplay of the movie. What else can you expect from the director who has given us headaches like Munna Michael, Baaghi, Heropanti etc. No wonder the producers decided to not invest in the promotions of the movie and didn't release it in the theatres. They straight away went for the OTT release. Nawaz needs to choose his roles carefully as already a lot of producers have stopped banking on him as he has been involved in a number of flops. Shreya Dhanwantary is a fine actress but is wasted in this movie.
This was indeed a surprise package. I was expecting a shoddily done half baked crime thriller movie which sort of has been the 'speciality' of Disney HotStar in recent times. But luckily this wasn't the case with Apurva. First of all, the cinematography of the movie is top notch. It has been shot on real locations and the scenes are brilliantly shot. Even the BGM is good, it's not overdone.
But the main reason why this was such a good watch was because of the three menacing characters played by Abhishek Banerjee, Sumit Gulati and of course Rajpal Yadav as 'Jugnoo'. They ooze terror throughout the movie. It was great to see Rajpal Yadav doing a dark and negative role and he aced it. He's such a versatile actor. Also the movie keeps you on the edge of the seat throughout but the story and the plot is similar to NH10 starring Anushka Sharma.
Some of the negative aspects are continuity issues in some place, the actors not speaking in the chambal accent and few stretched scenes here and there.
Overall a good watch. Highly recommended.
