There is no category where the movie shines or even does anything above par, unfortunately. The Endless is a masterpiece and their remaining movies are more focused on just presenting vague philosophy with no concrete plot. So if you like romance moving all over the place it's a film for you. Budget wise the CGI alone makes it feel a tad lazy and silly. It can be made for under a million easily. The acting is decent, but the woman is playing a character meant to know a lot yet she acts like a party girl. The director messed up here, not the actress. Mainly the storytelling is badly put together. It's like the director had a bunch of scenes and used every single one in the movie despite the story not warranting half of them. Half the scenes take you away from the story. A regular movie would look like this if the editor didn't cut anything out. It's not extra depth, it's stuff that is just not needed to tell the story they want to tell.
Everything feels cheap which works for moments where it's a silly travel flick as it looks like it's filmed with a cheap handheld phone. But in serious scenes the cheapness and silly ugly color style makes it feel off. Like as if the director intended one thing, but then couldn't really do anything besides the silly style as he didn't know how to pull it off with the budget and actors at hand. The night scenes are badly lit. All colors ugly and look off. This happens when movies are filmed with phones for example. They can look decent, but you need modern phones with all the proper software to make it look proper.
The story itself is extremely basic. Should have been an episode in a TV show and even then it would feel a tad long. I did enjoy myself watching it in that I kept watching and going back to watching it after breaks. But it's not really anything I can recommend. There is no deep anything here. It's extremely shallow.
