It is a shame that most people never get to see many of these wonderful silent films. Please, someone consider putting this great version of "A Christmas Carol" out on DVD. How wonderful it would be to see this version with some other silent Christmas films on a DVD for this Holiday season. Even though this 1922 version of "A Christmas Carol" has some missing footage it is still well worth seeing. Once again, i hope some of the quality companies such as Kino or Milestone will consider releasing this. There are so many of the silent classics that have not been seen for a generation or more. This "carol" is one you'll never forget. I'm sure you will find yourself watching it in the Christmas's "yet to come".
this version of the borrowers with eddie albert is a true classic. it is perfection in every way. great sets, good effects and top notch acting. karen pearson who plays arrietty gives one of the all time best performances by a child star and has great stage presence with her elaborate victorian dresses and beautiful long straight hair. this film has just been released on DVD on the digigrew label and is good quality. the borrowers is a classic equal to the 1993 version of the secret garden in production values. not to give much away, the story is about the tiny clock family (albert, pearson) who live under the floor and "borrow" from the big folks. run out and "borrow" it. better still buy it!!!!
the blue bird from 1918 is one of the most beautiful, captivating films of all time. it is the story of 2 poor children who are visited by a fairy on Christmas eve. the fairy shows them how to see things through the eyes of God. she teaches them about what is truly important in life. they follow the fairy through many events and learn something new from each experience. if you have not seen this great silent film or have seen another version, then please take the time to watch this masterpiece, you will never forget it. the young girl who plays mytel (tula belle) is nothing short of tremendous. her acting is very natural and has a realism i've never seen in another child star. tula's facial expressions even without speech, is more effective than most child stars with both mediums. tula belle's performance in the blue bird is probably the single best performance by a child star of all time.
