I'll admit, I've only ever watched three quarters of an episode, but quite frankly that was enough.
I sat down to watch "The Hound Of The Baskervilles" episode, because that is my favorite Sherlock Holmes story, especially the Basil Rathbone version. I was also aware the series had been created by Mark Gatiss of "The League Of Gentlemen", which I adore and I also quite liked his "Crooked House" anthology series. I also don't mind Martin Freeman, most notably for his role as "Tim Canterbury" in "The Office".
My thinking was, that if "THOTB" was any good, I'd give the rest of the series a gander on iPlayer.
Now all that was the "pros" for watching, but unfortunately on the "cons" side was the biggest obstacle of them all, I can't stand the insufferable Benedict Cumberbatch, who, being kind, is one of the worst actors I've had the misfortune to see. He is truly terrible and is straight out of the "Roger Moore School Of Eyebrow Acting". (The only role he's done, which, I wouldn't say enjoyed, that's too strong, but didn't cringe at, was the part he played in "Starter For Ten". He was playing a total douche, so the casting was quite appropriate!)
Regrettably though, all my fears were confirmed, as "eyebrow acting" was at the front, centre and rear. A continual monologue of eyebrow raising and lowering, close ups and panning, everywhere BC's eyebrows, did go.
So, about half to three quarters of the way in, and I had only lasted that long out of politeness to my fellow viewers, I'd had about as much eyebrows as I could take, and so made my excuses and retired to the pub.
Elementary dear eyebrows, elementary!

This would have been good, but it's got the actors speaking in stupid accents, I appreciate that Ben Kingsley was trying his hardest not to, but I'm still stunned how some directors would think it a good idea! Stop the stupid accents!
