Filmistaan (2012)
Beauty of cinema across borders where humanity prospers...
A must watch for all those who love to watch something different than the usual stuff that we get to see throughout the year.
Firstly, the lead actors namely Sharib Hashmi and Inaamulhaq were absolutely outstanding in their respective roles.
Next, the director Nitin Kakkar has done a very decent job in bringing the lives across borders together.
Lastly, this film has a set of its own moments plus good humor along with some soulful music. Though the ending scene seemed a bit diverted to me as compared to the whole flow of Filmistaan.
But, surely everyone needs to watch this remarkable piece of cinema for its uniqueness and freshness. Highly recommended... 4.5/5 stars...
Purani Jeans (2014)
A beautiful story of life...
For me this film has managed to create a special place near my heart because of its life-like story-line.
Firstly, the director has done a decent job in capturing the moments of life that most of us have gone or will go through.
Secondly, the lead actors were good but to me the supporting cast was more convincing.
Now, talking about the music, Purani Jeans has got a couple of melodious tracks but a few others could have been avoided.
We get to see such type of movies once in a while so please enjoy it... Recommended to all... My rating 4.5/5 stars
Dekh Tamasha Dekh (2014)
Dekh Tamasha Dekh Review
One of the best satires I have ever seen in my life. The director has done a decent job in bringing this movie alive, all the characters are worth praising. The movie revolves around a small village but life is same everywhere - the same people live together, fight together, smile together and die together. At places it might touch your heart and at places it might make you laugh but its much more than just a movie - its reality. The movie also raises the question that are we all safe together or we need to get an advice from these so called religious leaders that mislead and divide us. So please watch this movie for its uniqueness and beautiful message. Recommended to all, 4.5/5 stars... Peace... I hope this will change our mentality in a positive sense.
Ya Rab (2014)
Religion is perfect but not its followers..."Ya Rab" Review...
So, basically this movie is based upon the fact that Muslims are not terrorists because terrorism has no religion, no face. Previously, we have seen quite a few films like "My Name is Khan" and "Shahid" that tried to speak on such matters. "Ya Rab" may not be a typical Bollywood film but it has elements of peace, prosperity and unity with a strong message. I loved the movie for its honesty and portrayal of events and some nice performances. You might notice a few familiar faces like "Aijaz Khan" from Big Boss as ATS Officer Ranvijay Singh. Overall it is a must watch for every Muslim and Non- Muslim so that "We" both can understand each other truly and judge ourselves.
Shahid (2012)
"Shahid The Shaheed (Martyr)"
After watching this brave and thought provoking piece of cinema I was compelled to write a review. Many of us might not have heard of this brave man Shahid Azmi who despite of his own sufferings and fears found a way to help others. May God provide him justice and relief to his family. While talking about the movie, it has a great realistic flow that will hold you till the end and even after that - nicely directed, executed and perfectly written. Raj Kumar delivered a breathtaking performance as the lead character and all the remaining cast members supported him well. There is a lot that cannot be expressed about this movie so just watch it on your own. Highly recommended.
Singh Saab the Great (2013)
"Sunny is back"...a decent flick in these harsh and hard times!
Singh Saab to me was a very decent Sunny Paaji flick that had all the right elements that a typical Bollywood movie must have and not to forget the superb direction by Anil Sharma as he showed some nice stuff by traveling through flashbacks. Sunny comebacks with Singh Saab in his old "desi superman avatar", he hits, he cries, and tries the right things. You may notice a lot of familiar faces that constitute the supporting cast but Urvashi as Minnie was a charm to watch. There are a lot of good dialogs in the movie and a couple of good songs too. The movie raises the same old issues that India still faces but in a bit different manner. Overall it can be your great family weekend. Enjoy! Rating - 8 on 10.
Mickey Virus (2013)
Mickey Virus doesn't need an anti-virus....
Mickey virus is basically a story based in Delhi where youngsters deal with this world virtually behind a computer screen that is hacking. It also has a hackers gang and a few cops trying for a 100 Crore Rupees heist. This movie deserves a lot but wont get what it deserves due to lack of awareness. For me Manish Paul was amazing and Elli Avram as KungFu Chameli was charming. All the other characters were good and funny like "floppy, chutni, pancho" etc. Manish as Mickey for me was way beyond my expectations, as a host he is awesome and as an anchor too whether its a reality show or an award show. "Pyaar China Ka Maal Hai" sung by Manish himself and "Tose Naina" sung by Arijit Singh are melodious. Overall its gonna be a fine evening/weekend watching it. Its fresh and I salute the Director Saurabh Verma for trying a not so common new subject. 8 out of 10 stars.
Fukrey (2013)
Worth a watch for the youth...
The movie starts a bit slow but then it catches the speed. One of my highly anticipated movie of 2013 that didn't disappointed me but was different in its own way. All the characters were good in their roles specially Bholi Punjaban. Its true that we many a times opt for shortcuts in our lives but after watching "Fukrey" you might end thinking twice every time. It is basically based on four friends with their struggle to earn money for their respective needs and their journey goes crazy enough. A couple of good songs add charm to the film. Unlike other comedy flicks in Bollywood this one has a very realistic approach that carries humor as well as seriousness. Highly recommended... Ratings 3.5 out of 5
Ankur Arora Murder Case (2013)
Involving and well written...
Its sad to say that such cases happen and its a shame for the medical profession. No doubt people make mistakes but running away from them is not a way as seen with "Ankur's" case, rather when one accepts his/her mistakes then only he/she is called a human being. Talking about the movie I would like to mention about the well written script by Vikram Bhatt that was justified by Sohail Tatari's direction. Doctor's are meant to save lives and not to be murderers whatever the reason might be. The male lead that is Arjun Mathur impressed me while other actors were also good and the Sunidhi Chauhan song was touchy. I'm sure that everyone of you would feel this movie somewhere near your heart if you have one specially those who have lost their near or dear ones. Apart from this make sure that you consult a good human doctor and not just a good doctor and be safe from those hospitals that are meant for business purposes only. So, be a good professional no matter wherever you are. Highly Recommended... Ratings 3.5 out of 5 :)
The Purge (2013)
2022 not so far but people struggling right now!!!
The year 2022 is shown in this movie where people are allowed to purge at an event that is organized annually by the US. The purge leads to no medical or other services for 12 hours. The cast was good specially Ethan Hawke. I know we live in sorrows but purge is not a good way to release the pressure. So, the movie as an imagination is acceptable but not in any other manner. Few action scenes were nice. The movie just revolved around a single house thats a bit disappointing otherwise it was very watchable. Moreover a bunch of stupid kids wearing weird marks also annoyed me a bit. I am expecting a sequel to this where they could involve the armed forces or even ZOMBIES. Recommended - Ratings 3/5
Forces spéciales (2011)
Started well but ended nowhere!
Like I already mentioned that the movie started well but unexpectedly it went way off. Djimon Hounsou looked good to me and other actors were also fine. This could have been the complete package if there were no plot holes. I found it stupid that to save a journalist a whole team of special forces was put at risk. I agree that media is an influential entity but still soldiers are more precious. One after another each of the members of the special forces team got injured and then eventually died. They all just kept traveling and the antagonists chasing them like cat and mouse. The title suggests something more engaging but the poor story spoils it. Although the action scenes were well executed but it does not mean that everything is perfect.
Shree (2013)
Nice concept nice effort.
Watch this movie for its concept only otherwise everything else is just average whether the acting, music, screenplay or anything else. Hussain was good but what more to expect from a Television star! Shree is solely based on time-travel which is a rare concept when you talk about it in the Indian film industry. It could have been better as it lacks that "bollywood spice" (humor, satire, good music etc.). On the whole its a one time watch if you take interest in watching it and not act like a pessimist. I respect the makers for their brave effort but risk is often not a choice. Not much films are made on the sci-fi genre and very few enjoy commercial success. My ratings would be a 6 out of 10.
Sadda Adda (2012)
Touchy and Motivating...
Seriously guys I lack words to review this title as it left me speechless for a while. Nice depiction of our practical lives, what happens or happened or what shouldn't have happened and all the positive and the negative. A brilliant work by the director and the entire cast. Many of you may feel this movie. It is well quoted that "The only thing that will stop you from fulfilling your dream is YOU". This movie could have been a success at least at the multiplexes but due to poor promotion and publicity it failed. But despite of this I loved it and strongly recommend Sadda Adda to everyone. 8.5 out of 10 would be a fair rating for this masterpiece!
Chashme Baddoor (2013)
David Dhawan is Back
Watched this last night and enjoyed throughout the whole 180 min. Loved the humor (little nasty but thats OK) and the dialogs too were superb. Nice effort for a remake shows that David Dhawan is still David Dhawan. All the three lead actors well suited to their roles. The female lead was also nice. Mr. Rishi Kapoor was a pleasure to be seen. Not to forget Anupam Kher Ji for his contribution. Like every Bollywood flick this has love, friendship and the mas-ala. A must watch for comic lovers specially with friends. Loved that flashback thing. Got more than what I expected. Hope you all like and enjoy it!!! My rating would be 8 stars.
Commando (2013)
Something different and kicky!
The movie seems alright with a decent story and the acting skills of Vidyut were catchy as in "Force". I got more than what I expected from Pooja Chopra as nothing more can be done by a female actor when we talk about an action flick. Loved the two songs "Bairi Piya" & "Lut Jaava". The dialogs are well written and not to forget those action scenes (wish I could see some more of them) that add life to the picture. Army's role could have been more justified and the Chinese guys taking a dangerous commando in an open jeep looks a bit awkward. The boldness of the movie makes it more promising and adds to the interest of the viewers. Like "Singham" this movie also points out the dirty politics and opposes it. Overall its an 8 out of 10 from my side. This movie deserves and should earn more than what it is actually earning. Well done BOLLYWOOD :)
Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013)
A ride with a good mileage!!!
The movie is fresh and entertaining but it is just about a Punjabi Family & a Maruti car. It lacks good music (my personal opinion) but that's all OK except the title song "Mere Dad Ki Maruti". Anyone would like this film for sure. It has its moments and all the actors were seemed committed to their performances. It has funny coincidences all around. If you haven't been to a Punjabi Wedding like I haven't then this could be your chance :D Overall its a great film to watch with family and friends and don't forget to keep some snacks. For 90 min. or so forget your sorrows and feel relaxed. Moral - Park your car SAFE ha ha
