It's extremely hard to find respectable scary movies today. Most are low-budget, straight-to-DVD excuses for suspense movies. Not this one. I first watched this in the cinema with a friend. Being two of five in the entire cinema, the isolation and eerie emptiness just added to the superbly created atmosphere emanated by the movie. From the start, I was excited for the climax of this film as you can see its originality and thoughtful plot portrayed in a blockbuster by a clever director. Unlike most movies, you can empathise with the characters (nearer the end, you feel sorry for them as can't escape their inevitable doom) and feel attached to the story line and plot which is complex yet gripping all the way through. I have absolutely no complaints regarding the scary moments in the film (which literally have you on the edge of your seat, even after watching it multiple times- it's really that good!)as they were plotted carefully but not overdone and repetitive. However, sometimes the camera shots were a little bit repetitive (i.e. a frequently occurring shot of Ellison walking through the house at night) but they definitely do not get boring or overrated so do not let that stop you watching it! All in all, I loved this movie and would recommend it to any horror movie buff to escape the usual rubbish being passed off as scary today or even just someone wanting a good scare late at night. Another thing, I recommend you make your viewing experience as authentic as possible- watch this late at night in the dark and you're in for a real treat!
Finally, I would absolutely love a sequel to this movie. I feel this - one of a few worthy of good reviews- really has the potential to construct a following movie. The ending (don't worry, not a spoiler!) does not see the dire situation resolved, merely continued. This said, an epic sequel featuring a dramatic showdown with Mr. Boogie would be inexplicably awesome!

Before watching this movie, I looked at reviews on here and other websites. Pretty much all of them were awful, claiming it to be a low- budget, less than satisfactory movie. However, I was skeptical a movie could be as bad as people claimed. Besides, I give most films a chance and see the good side of most.
Saying that, after I proceeded to put it on and watch it, I sat with my mouth open, marveling at just how not-scary a "horror" could be. It's an 18-cert but, if I'm brutally honest, a 12 would be pushing it.
There were next to no scary, suspense moments in it, the plot was so simple a child could have written it and I thought it was indescribable. Usually, I'd say it's just not for me, but I couldn't see anybody enjoying this movie and recommending it as a respectable horror or thriller.
I was really disappointed but at least I'll take more notice of cynical reviews now- don't waste your time with this.
