La Corde (2021)
First World naval gazing
Absolute rubbish. Watched it through to enjoy the characters and storyline becoming more and more ridiculous. I was disappointed that any of these oxygen thieves survived, crass and deep as a puddle.
Svörtu sandar (2021)
Great premise, dreadful execution, prepare to be bored to death.
Black Sands starts off well enough, a suspicious death and a predictably dysfunctional policewoman escaping her city life to return to her even more dysfunctional home town that she had ironically escaped from years ago.
Pretty quickly it gets silly and the crime seems almost forgotten amidst the web of relationships between the main characters. I am not a prude, but the protracted sex scenes and the inevitable and irrelevant references to the full spectrum of sexual preferences does nothing for the story, assuming you are watching it to enjoy some dark and grisly crime.
Anita, the main character is obnoxious. Salomon, the only doctor in the village, is too good to be true and it takes until episode 6 before the crime becomes part of the story. Episode 7 is the big reveal, but honestly I picked whodunnit well beforehand due to the limited range of characters and their presentation. Am forcing myself to see it out, only one to go... hopefully they will all be annihilated by some cosmic force and at least then I will feel justice has been done.
Watch for a surprise cameo by "Conchita" the bearded lady Eurovision winner... Could it get any sillier?
Seizure (2019)
Disappointing and frustrating
I am used to watching Scandi, French and Belgian noir and thoroughly enjoying it. I am used to disliking or failing to bond with almost all the characters, in fact I would be suspicious if there was someone I actually liked. I am used to slow starts, gradual and complex storylines, so I was prepared to forgive Seizure at first, assuming it would all fall into place eventually.
But this show was excruciating. What at first appeared to be a story about an investigation into the drowning death of four young asylum seekers became a confusing supernatural introspective of the two investigating police officers who both feel guilt and responsibility for unrelated recent events.
And the eels. And the water.... And the flashbacks, nightmares and pseudo reality. It was crap.
The only reason I gave it two stars was because of some of the acting. I can't believe I watched it through to the end.
