This was gripping, emotional, empathetic to the real characters and gave due credit to the indescribable bravery of the lead reporters Zoe Kazan and Cary Mulligan.
This was film-making at its best - script, casting, cinematography were all top-not h. What was particularly impressive was how under-stated and "matter-of-fact" the style was. I think this gave credibility to the "story-telling". What also was so well done was that this film did not fall into the trap of only glorifying one or two characters. Due credence was given to the NYT colleagues and bosses, the abuse victims, even personnel inside Weinstein empire.
If you want to see an homage to people who really make the world a better place - this film will not disappoint.

It's rare that I get completely captivated by a film - but this was perfection on a screen.
Th film-making was excellent in all respects from casting through to pacing and writing. What the entire production team did that so few fail to achieve is to pay full homage to the people on whose real life story the film is based on.
At no time did any aspect seem overdone - subtlety and realism were the undertones in everything from the cinematography to the acting. We watched this with friends and all of us were in awe at the vision, capability and determination of the lead characters Zahia & Fettouma Ziouani. Overcoming institutionalized sexism and racism in the musical world of Paris was shown but not over-laboured.
We will time our next visit to Paris to ensure we can hear orchestre divertimento. This is film making at its best about truly inspiring people.

When a production team try this hard to impress you with how clever they can be.....they fail. How many times can a director use flash-backs for a few seconds before that technique becomes irritating? For me the answer is, a huge amount less than in this film.
I read the summary on IMDB before watching this, but that was not enough information. I should have said that the core story is totally lost in the "dream-world" drifting of slowly rotating pictures of the galaxy and fuzzy lights with emotional orchestral background music.
I watched this film in a community hall....there was a lot of fidgeting going on and I was not the only person to leave before the end. I think the film was trying to be an examination of the process of making sense of life and reconciliation. A good purpose for a film. A pretentious, tedious delivery.
