When looking at this episode on IMDB you might notice the score of 9,1 and only three reviews that gave it 10s which might mean is one of the greatest episodes of the show. Yet when I saw it I found it nothing exceptional. Now that I finally took this off my chest I can go on.
When the episode begins a family is walking through a wall and a shooter inadvertently shots a 10 year old boy leaving him brain-dead. After the theme song we see the kid on life support and in the meanwhile his parents (Gary Basaraba and Marcia Gay Harden) struggle with the decision of keeping him on life support or giving his organs to science and in the meanwhile Pembleton and Bayliss track down the shooter tho it won't be easy as during the interrogation they'll end up questioning their own moral and spiritual convictions. In particular the shooter wanted to shoot his brother because he stole his girlfriend but ended up shooting Patrick instead.
What prevented me to give a higher score is that the detectives asked to Patrick's dad if the son was already dead, it was rude. Second, the overall tone of the story was already depressing so for me it wasn't easy to swallow. Just an ok episode and nothing more.

As I said in the summary, in every crime TV show there is at least an episode dealing with racism or issues related to it. And with HOMICIDE there had to be somehow so here we are.
When the story begins a man is killed by skinheads outside a bar, and the investigation by Bayliss and Pembleton is complicated when they start asking too many questions about the victim's sexuality. In the meanwhile Lewis and Crosetti catch a new lead in Crosetti's last unsolved case and it makes Lewis at odds with Kay Howard. As Thanksgiving day is approaching the unit is making plans for the holiday and Brody gets officially hired as the cameraman for the day and for the Homicide unit as well since he was fired from his previous job.
Yet another good episode thanks to the acting and writing, and also for dealing with homosexuality and racism in a subtle manner. Worth seeing as usual with the show.
