Tell Me Your Secrets (2021)
Intelligent and intriguing
I'm up to episode 6 of binge..the pace is delightful. Small snippets unfold. The idea of evil permeates..so called do- gooders have fake motives. Good character study and understanding in of human nature and that everyone has capacity to do wrong.i can't wait to see how this ends. Very sorry to read it was not renewed for season 2 as it has all the hallmarks of a quality long tv series. There is a gothic menace the entire was through. The main actor for Karen/Emma is great..a tortured misunderstood and manipulated victim of a serial killer who did things for love but has kindness and justice in her soul.
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (2022)
Morally awful but compelling viewing
As a westerner I was so drawn into the family drama and quest for love versus duty. The ruthlessness of power and status overpowers right and wrong. What 'seems' respectable is shallow social standing. It depicts the frailty of human emotions and how easy it can be to manipulate others to your needs. Purva is wickedly evil spoilt child accustomed to always getting her way. She has learned from her father that one's desires are always ok even at the expense of another's life.
Educators (2019)
Brilliant...
The birds eye view into the true humanity and character studies whilst a bit over the top is refreshingly honest... Talk about no filters.. brave funny and easy to binge ..
Black Hands (2020)
Engrossing and brilliant storytelling
Up to episode 3 and I am unfamiliar with the true story but I'm hooked.. it is well paced and so full of pathos for all the flawed characters. Each with a role in the outcome that is revealed in the first scene. I can't wait to see how the remaining episodes.
Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (2009)
refreshing to have to engage with storytelling instead of being handed on a plate
This is unique. Clever and thought-provoking. There is no black and white, every story has a nuance that makes you think. Intersting to ponder the different ways men understand women. And how little women try to understand men. I will look for the book to read.
Between Two Worlds (2020)
Not as bad as reviewed by others
I was really looking forward to seeing this. After the first episode I looked on imdb and didn't see many positive reviews.
I'm glad I made up my own mind. It's not the best show but it was enough to keep me in for 10 episodes.
The Addams Family (2019)
Delightfully dark and funny - precious
It was a wonderful homage to the TV show from the 1960s. The lovely touches in the detailed artwork and characterizations were spot on. Most of all there was a sense of love behind this work.
Within the first 5 minutes I knew I'd watch it again and it did not disappoint.
If you love good storytelling with a a bit of a morality tale in the mix I would recommend this to you.
Joker (2019)
Mary Shelly runs through Joaquin Phoenix in this masterpiece
This dark film was something that I knew I'd see but maybe I'd wait til streaming release but without something to do on Halloween I took myself to movies.
I did not read any reviews but as I sat in cinema watching every last credit scroll up the only word that seemed fitting was Masterpiece. It seems that's a word common to describe this.
The frail and yet emotionally powerful physicality of Phoenix captivates and unsettles throughout.
The clever weaving of different characters' storylines in this origin tale makes complete sense and nothing feels contrived. Whether or not (perhaps especially if you are not) a fan of superhero blockbusters this film should draw you in and haunt you.
Much food for thought on how society deals with difference,...not paying lip service to it..the innocence of Frankenstein, grotesque and wanting love and acceptance in a cruel world definitely echoes in this universal story.
I recommend to anyone who likes to be moved not just entertained..
Wentworth: Under Siege Pt 2 (2019)
Astounding build up and resolution
This episode clearly had me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath and my heart thumping for the first half during the siege. Loving tender moments shared, loss of some useless women was welcomed and story lines and mysteries finally solved. Was completely blown away with the last 2 seconds revelation though puzzled as to how this could possibly happen - a massive suspension of disbelief can be the only answer.
The overarching theme of this episode was maternal love in its many forms. These women demonstrate the power of solidarity against patriarchal oppression.
RECOMMENDED viewing.
Welcome to Marwen (2018)
Gentle healing and magical town, brilliant storytelling, captivating
The interaction between Mark Hogencamp's inner world's, his healing journey, love of his community and his yearning to make sense of his attack is brilliantly portrayed by Steve Carrell. Highly recommended.
Love and Shukla (2017)
Touching universal story
Understated and nuanced acting and directing. Honest portrayal of the hard times and resilience of the protagonist. Highly recommended
Kidding (2018)
Multi layered subtle and enchanting
From when we meet Ukelarry to the dark ending of season 1 every moment is engaging, well thought out with great plot points.
The characters are relateable and offers commentary on the state of people's relationships in a world that offers fewer face to face encounter...with so much communication apparent...we remain unheard ...rivetting and a story for any generation
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Magnificent tribute to legendary genius
I'm not going to fuss over some of the historical inaccuracies as the overall film is a trimphant tribute to a creative, innovative and visionary band that has NO peers that come close to the sheer genius, spearheaded by Freddie Mercury
His portrayal by Rami Malek as multifaceted, lonely and full of equal parts bravado and vulnerability speaks volumes of his craft as an actor.
The nuanced details of the onscreen Brian May is also fabulous...and this is really how I would sum up the movie...as Freddie would say, "it's fabulous daaaarling!"
Genius (2017)
Great drama that leaves me curious
The first episode has me highly anticipating the next one.
It combines social history, emotional dramas, political ideology and physics in a way that makes the viewer want to know about all of these aspects, not just as they pertain to Einstein's life.
I've enjoyed seeing him portrayed as playful and definitely multi faceted
