Transformers One (2024)
Best Transformers Cinema as of now.
Finally a Transformers movie that's not involving humans and are actually it's all about Transformers. The movie was great. The visuals are beautiful, the characters are on point, the comedy is not too much, (just right) and it's perfect for telling the origin of the Transformers.
The fans will surely pick up a lot of easter eggs while the newcomers will find a sweet spot to get a starting point to experience Transformers lore. It's a win win for Transformers fans or general audience.
If this is the future of Transformers movie then I think it is in the right place. Transformers One proves animation can be the perfect medium to tell a Transformers story. If someone asks what Transformers movie to watch, I would easily recommend Transformers One.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
What a fun ride it was
Sometimes, in rare cases, a good movie doesn't need to have deep or good story, as long as it delivered what it promised: a fun movie. And this film is exactly that, and boy it really was a fun ride from start to finish.
Not saying the stoy is bad, it's not, but it wasn't the focus of this movie. This movie is a fanservice movie done right. If you're a fan of the characters and the Marvel IP, then by all means go dig in and have absolute fun. It was never intended for other audiences other than Marvel fans, because there's a lot of references and other things that would only be understood if you're a fan. And sometimes, having these kind of movie is okay if done right, and full of passion and heart. And this movie is exactly it.
Oni: Kamigami Yama no Onari (2022)
A demon tale with full of heart.
Beautiful art & beautiful story.
Simple story with great characters, about finding something wonderful that is unique to every child, but also a story of a father and daughter.
Nice character development, pace is great, nothing too slow or too fast, everything is just right. Only 4 episodes so can be finished in 1 or 2 sittings.
Again, the visual style is just amazing. It's a mixed style of CG animation with stop motion style that somehow really works well for telling this story.
Highly recommend this to anyone with a kid, or someone who's into good animation, or like japanese mythic tales, or just someone looking out a good wholesome story.
Kamen Rider Black Sun (2022)
Great at start to underwhelming finish
Great at start, i love the approach that its for adult, (would love to watch more kamen riders if its made this way) but story progression towards the end kind of slowly kills the joy. Ending is a bit of a letdown. Felt very underwhelming.
Pros:
- Episode 10 opening is awesome.
- Overall design is undeniably cool, just wished that the eyes are permanently red (not glow)
- Love the adult approach, just wish that theres nudity also instead of gore only. C'mon Japan, this is where you're good at.
- Lots of fanservice to the old Black series.
- Cool fights.
Cons:
- Story.... isn't as good as i hoped for.
- Character's ideals switching sometimes doesn't made sense.
- There's a line equal of "with great power, comes with great responsibility" in terms of weight, but almost 10 times longer, and they made sure you're hearing this repeatedly until you remembered all of it. It's unnecessary and kind of cringe when hearing the 10th time.
- Editing is kind of crap. I mean they can't even make the bike scenes look faster. They're like moving around 30 kmh.
But still happy they made this, despite all the cons.
Idk if theres going to be season 2 or not because it looks final enough for me, but if it somehow is, i'll still watch it.
7/10.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Acid trip to multiverse of absurdity
So this is about a multiverse thats even more complex than comic movies' lol. I think this movie is not for everyone, though. Within the complex layers of trippy-ness and absurdity, the movie has really deep meaning.
With that said, for me, well, I got entertained on the first act, then it got REAALLY trippy and convoluted on second act, so at third act I just wanna see the closure and be done with it. Its so trippy that sometimes it gives me nausea effect, and the bizzareness and absurdity FAR outweigh the film's overall feel, even though I get what the film is trying to say.
So.. what's my final take on this film? All the actors played here gave great, ..no, superb performances. Film's message was great. Visuals and art direction were great. But it's still very hard to rate this movie. A part of me wants to rate it 9, but also wants to rate it 3 at the same time. I like it, but at the same time, not really. So.. at the end, I feel like this really isn't my jam, definitely wont ever rewatch it, even though I do like and appreciate some parts of it, especially the film's message.
Rate: not for everyone/10.
