Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Worth The Wait
I never thought I would get to see this movie, but it actually happened. After being disappointed in that other mess that was released in theaters, this was so rewarding to see. This movie really gave Cyborg's character a great arc and he truly was the heart of the story. But what had me the most excited was The Flash. The Flash was the MVP for me. I can't wait to see The Flash movie. I hope Zack Snyder get to do a solo Wonder Woman film. Although this wasn't as epic and great as Batman vs Superman, this was still a good solid movie and worth the wait.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
The Human Factor
What I liked about both Wonder Woman movies is the heart that it has in telling the stories. I really got emotional watching this. Sure the action was great but what was even better was the message in this film.
I don't know too much about the character of Wonder Woman in the comics but I've always heard about her having a love for mankind. It really shows it in these movies and the hearfelt stories is what made this a good movie for me. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Cheetah character but that still did not stop me from enjoying the story.
Hamilton (2020)
The Hype Was Real
Wow! Although I was late to experience this wonderful piece of art, nontheless I'm glad I got to experience it. Thank you everyone involved for creating this special project.
Cashback (2006)
An Underrated Gem
At the time I was watching this back in 2008, I thought it was way ahead of its time. I was right. I'm glad I discovered this gem. I hope more folks discover it as well.
Mother! (2017)
I really liked it.
I went in seeing this knowing nothing. I just kept on hearing how bad it was or you'll either love it or hate it. So I had no idea what to expect. I'm one of those people who loves a weird movie. And yes this indeed was weird.
I had no idea what I was watching throughout the entire film, and still I was loving it. But then once it ended, I was like wow, I really liked this movie. But I had no idea what the ending was about.
And then I decided to go to Google and get information about the ending, and I got a lot more than what I expected. I started reading what the film was actually about. And all I have to say is, I went from liking it to loving it!
Amazing. Probably my favorite Aronosky film or definitely a close 2nd to Requiem.
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
Wow!
This was so amazing. That ending pulled on my heartstrings. Never has an animated movie done this to me.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Disappointed
I didn't want to give this a 1 star just because I can't bring myself to do it, it's like saying you hate your child when you actually don't but are very mad at that child. Well, I'm very mad right now. I don't want to go on a rant and say all the things I hated about it, I'll just say that I was very disappointed. The Force Awaken is definitely much better. Now I worry about how in the hell are they going to end this trilogy the right way when this particular film was such a mess. The story was all over the place. It felt like they couldn't make up their mind about what story they wanted to tell.
Straight Outta Compton (2015)
A very well paced film with great characters and human emotion.
I'm a hip-hop head and grew up in the NWA era, even if I wasn't a hip-hop junkie I don't think I would love this movie any less. When I first saw the trailer I wasn't quite sold. The movie was wonderful. I cannot find too many things I didn't like about it. If I were too nitpick, then I would say they painted Dre & Ice Cube too positively. I'm pretty sure there were less flattering things about them. But judging this from just how well it was written, acted and directed, I would have to say this was flawless.
Obviously there are five members of the group, and the film chose to focus more on the three most popular members, which I did not have a problem with. Because the movie was carried out so well, it did not affect the overall story of the group as a whole. What made this so wonderful for me is that almost every pivotal scene in the movie, I remember being a part of it, because I remember where I was when each moment was happening. When certain songs were shown being made or when the tragic news of Eazy-E was reported. It took me down memory lane of my own life, not too many films can do this.
And the music of course is a major part of the story and it was well executed. Now let's talk about the cast. What a well-put together cast! This movie had humor, tragedy and everything in between. It was sold by this wonderful cast. Basically Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson was born to play this role, literally and he knocked it out the park. But the two that held this glue together was Paul Giamatti playing Jerry Heller and Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E. The chemistry between those two was amazing. I would love to see someone from this cast get an Academy Award nomination. In my opinion, this is a great contender for Best Film for the Oscars.
As a hip-hop junkie and a lover of great films, I would like to say thank you to the creators of this movie for reminding me why I love Hip-Hop so much.
