The Beast Within (2024)
Can't root for willfully stupid people.
I can't relate to nor root for idiots and their stupid decisions. I have no energy left. This movie is a frustrating watch. The characters' illogical choices make it impossible to sympathize with them, and the plot never fully delivers the tension it promises. What could have been a gripping thriller is undermined by poor pacing and weak storytelling as well as a poor premise. Any potential it had is squandered by its inability to engage or surprise, leaving me exhausted, annoyed and disappointed. It doesn't make any sense and I wonder why Kit Harington chose this. He played well, but couldn't save anything.
The Ark (2023)
AHoles in Space
Should've been called A-holes in space. If this is the best humanity can come up with, let it all die.
The storytelling is bland and unimaginative. It uses tropes and prejudice. This might have worked in the early 90s, but in today's day and age, there are sooo many better stories out there. The characters lack depth, the plot is predictable, and the dialogue feels forced and unnatural. It's a disappointment from start to finish, offering nothing new or exciting. Instead of pushing boundaries, it clings to outdated ideas, leaving viewers with a stale and forgettable experience; if they even make it that far.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)
Who wrote those dialogues?
I mean, honestly, who wrote those dialogues? Even if it's a show for kids, why must every adult be an idiot? Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire suffers from painfully clichéd and juvenile writing. The plot, though promising with its icy apocalyptic premise, is undermined by one-dimensional characters and predictable twists. The adult characters are caricatures of stupidity, failing to engage even the youngest viewers. While the special effects are ok, they can't salvage a script that treats its audience with condescension. It's a disappointing addition to a beloved franchise, lacking the wit and charm of its predecessors (originals)...
Heartstopper (2022)
Goosebumps guaranteed
Edit: I see so many people mentioning the cringe. It IS cringy because those situations in reality are as well! You don't know how to move forward and you don't want to move back. The actors do a fantastic job. The emotions are so well transported, and it's surprising for me to see that even the underlying feelings and motives are amazingly convincing. For what it wants to be, this series does profoundly well.
I never read the web novel and, honestly, I didn't expect much since I saw all those extremely positive reviews. Gave it a shot nonetheless, and I didn't regret it. I actually watched it a second time. It just makes you feel good, and I wish for everyone to have a similar experience if they are in such a situation. I hadn't, but it fills me with joy that the topic might be seen by today's youth as something not that special anymore and that people matter, not gender. This acceptance and tolerance actually gives me a little bit more hope for us as a species.
Moonfall (2022)
I tried to turn off my brain, as people suggested, and I nearly died...
If you try to shut off your brain to endure the constant BS, you're in danger of losing even your natural reflexes like breathing. There are no 5 consecutive minutes where anything said makes sense. The characters constantly spill nonsensical pseudo-facts, claims, or incredible theories. The screenwriters didn't care one bit.
They simply state something and, thereby, it becomes a fact. Just god damn awful.
