With 2 of the hottest young stars around The gorge makes for a very pleasurable watch.
Kind of a horror/sci fi/action/love story, it tells the tale of 2 elite snipers from different sides, keeping the world safe from the creatures of the gorge.
A tale of 2 halves consists firstly of good character building and a mesmerising love story (which some are saying is cheesy, but I found amusing and not taking itself too seriously). Followed by a second half all out action horror fest.
The creatures were a tad disappointing, but not too much. Think more the last of us than a quiet place. The action was full throttle with our well tooled up heroes unleashing everything they have on their creepy enemies.
The running time seemed just right at about 2 hours with no dull moments I can think of.
It's never going to win any Oscar's and it's probably never going to be held as a classic of its genre, but it's exceptionally entertaining and well made.

ONLY UP TO EPISODE 3 BUT FEEL COMPELLED TO WRITE A REVIEW.
Read a few poor reviews on here, most complaining about the "unnecessary" violence.
A quick google search tells you that what is depicted is a pretty accurate portrayal of what actually happened back then.
So, yes it's very violent! But that is reflective of the time it's set in. Pretty much everyone was at war with everyone, with throats being slit for someone's dinner money!!
As well as being very violent, it's also very very good. It's superbly made by renowned director Peter Berg, with a great cast. Obviously none of us were around back then so will never know for sure, but from what I've about these times, it seems to capture the grit, the constant threat, the poverty, the lawlessness etc perfectly. There's nothing nice about this series, no quirky character adding a bit of comic relief or heroes riding in to save the day and getting the girl (at least not up to episode 3 which is where I'm at), just pure reality of how grim it must have actually been back then.
If you're easily offended by graphic violence then give it a wide berth. If you want a superbly made, accurate and compelling story, give it a whirl.

I really enjoyed the Danish version when I watched it earlier this year and was worried about how the remake would go. I actually enjoyed this one more.
Without realising, James Mcavoy has become one of my favourite actors. He's excellent in everything he's in.
His character in this is absolutely integral to the whole story. Each character plays their part and does a decent job, but the whole thing hinges on Mcavoys performance. If his isn't on point, the entire film falls down.
Thankfully he's on top form and brings a strange mix of charming, funny, menacing and psychotic to his unhinged character.
Without giving anything away (I'm sure most people know the plot), we are drip fed the story bit by bit, with the layers slowly peeling away and the cracks appearing.
Never quite 100% sure of what exactly the motives are and the level of danger they in, the film builds and builds to a fantastic climax that doesn't disappoint.
A little bit far fetched at times, but it's easy to forgive that for such an accomplished film.
