Imagine if a film student somehow got the budget and the noted actors to make a Hollywood style film. Nevermind that the script was utter nonsense and he had failed all but one or two of his classes in school but somehow never got kicked out. Imaging that reality will begin to give you an idea of genuinely how bad this movie is. Every single step the story take has to be propped up every fantastical thought the viewer can came up with to keep it going. It's a bit like being in a bike race where you run off the road every 5 minutes, your tires go flat, the handlebars fall off but somehow against all the odds of the universe you manage to win the race. Of anyone gives MNS another dime to make a movie then they deserve the ridicule that will indeed come their way.
The draw to Freddy is that he has a sense of humor. A very dark but funny sense of humor. This remake missed all of that. Freddy has become just another one dimensional bad guy with knify fingers. The casting for Freddy was a bad decision. He had none of the movement, voice or creativity to play Freddy. An actor with a good ability to improvise should have been chosen. The rest of the cast wasn't bad. Each of them fit the mold of the character they were playing. The story wasn't bad either. It really came down to bad casting of Freddy. If there is one character you have to get right in A Nightmare on Elm Street, it's Freddy. Without that you just have a mess.
Ok, it goes like this. Girl who is last of her tribe and also deaf. Stop. Stop right there. When a story starts like this you know the rest of it is going to be a miserable, predictable watch. As it turns out that's exactly what ensues. Not the fun kind of predictable that you might be hoping for. The kind of low quality predictability that requires me to hunt for nearly random word to even finish this review. On top of that the CGI is lazy and looks like something you'd see in a five dollar video game. If your choice is between watching drool slide down a friend's face or watching this then definitely choose the drool. At least you'll have something to laugh at with that friend in years to come.
