They obviously thought they can be a Disney movie, they cannot. This is a true story, what is with the animal sidekicks and the Jafar type character and Iago type sidekick, these changes are unnecessary and unwarranted. I am not surprised that the estates of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II have declared that there are to be no more animated features based on their musicals. This movie is a missed opportunity, an opportunity that had a big ripple effect on the planned other animated features of their musicals. I enjoy when directors approach a story with a new way to tell it from a different angle but not at the expense of the story especially a true story. It does not make it modern it just weakens the story and the end result is a bad movie,
Great memories, it is just a fun movie just like the tv show ...... just fun. Casting is perfect, John Goodman was spot on, Rick Moranis a perfect Barney, Rosie O'Donnell (was my favorite) a lovable Betty and Elizabeth Perkins was Wilma from the second she appeared on the screen. Adding Elizabeth Taylor to the mix was genius, and Halle Berry amazing, from the second she appeared all you thought was she is a star. The attention to the detail was true to cartoon. I think it is the best live action cartoon series brought to the big screen. It is truly a family friendly film, great direction by Brian Levant.
This show is magnificent, so powerful. I was there opening night of the original production and I loved some of the changes they made. I cried at least 3 times (and I am very familiar with the show). I am so glad that these actors were filmed and we now have this amazing production we can now see over and over again. It is perfectly cast, the intensity of the show is overwhelming (in a good way) these actors give you no choice but to go on this journey with them, they pull you in from the beginning. I especially loved the new opening with Kim and the Engineer. The strength of these talents on the stage is a gift we are given while we watch this journey. The Engineer was amazing, to be able to despise his cruelty but yet like and feel for him is an amazing actor embodying the best of his gifts. I am not sure of the words for the actress playing Kim, the minute you see her you want to protect her but we watch her strength emerge, stunning performance. Everyone in this company gives it their all every minute, every second and never lets us done. The act 2 opening is powerful, beautiful solo done with such emotion and conviction, Bravo! Highly recommended!
