Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Tears Of Joy! True Believers, Tears of Freakin' Joy!
Soooo where do I start...after watching the film 2x so far back to back days & going again for a 3rd time. I think back to the 1st film. Before the film started I asked myself HOW? HOW in the hell is SONY going to top the 1st entry to Miles. We know SONY has mishandled their Spidey IP in the live action department with a few given exceptions...So as I watched Gwen's story pulled LITERALLY from the comics to big screen & watched Spider-India, Spider-Punk with a twist,Scarlet Spider & the PLETHORA of Spidey characters in all its MAGNIFICENCE hit the screen. At the end of the film I answered my own question...THIS!..THIS IS HOW THEY DO IT! & I'll be damned, they SURELY did. The various art animation styles, the color palette usage, when they focused on each specific Spidey character at the time. The story arc being told & arcs they pulled from, with that creme de la creme twist myself & my son picked out once we saw Mile's mom face & knew immediately where they were going...perfection...left you begging for more. You could've told me to sit there for another 2 1/2 hrs & I would have not mind AT ALL. Knowing ahead of time this was always a 2 part film already had me excited, EVEN MORE after that ending. The group that was assembled towards the end my my my goodness. The gems of Easter eggs ontop of Easter eggs & other get you amped up surprises. At its core it had its drama & deep family story to tell, it had action, it had comedy it had suspense, it had it all, but 1st & foremost, the CORE concepts of what makes Spider-Man..Spider-Man, were showcased through & through. You can tell from the director, down to every single person/department involved with these 2 films well 3 😏hopefully soon thoroughly love the character/characters.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
WAIST OF TIME LITERALLY
Here I am fan of the original, some what fan of the re-make & here comes this...i don't even know what to call this mess. The literally good thing this film had going was the gore at that. Story plot was all sorts of every where & frankly a little to predictable in an annoying way. Every slight twist that the film would throw at you or attempt to throw at you was just to funny. Though it was directly directed by Raimi he still got credit for producing this im sure. They almost didn't even try it felt at one point. For those who liked this I don't see how, but kudos to you glad you did, but if this is what horror is right now or currently I don't know what to say.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
IT's A ME!!!...MARIO!
*Skeptical about the voice= Pratt killed it amazingly well even a couple mama mía's where thrown in for good measure 😂 *Was worried about how simple the story is & would they make it over complicated= no they kept it simple, stuck to the basics made it fun and entertaining for different ages *Would they get the characters right= I'll be damned if they didn't cast damn near everyone perfectly *Will they solely go off nostalgia= yes & no of course you have to hit the nostalgia button, but they put enough of it (😏actually expected more) but it was just peppered throughout. A good family film throughout highly recommend.
Violent Night (2022)
Yippie Ki-Yay! Mother#*$!+^*
Finally an X-Más movie which doesn't take itself so seriously with the x-más theme & over saturates itself, it's just a good ol' fashioned straight action flick with a slight hint of X-más in it. Yippe Ki-yay mother #*$! Lol...good ol'Die Hard days. I really hope they run with this one more time, cause this one was a lot of fun. Story plot was simple to follow, Hellboy/Hopper/Red Guardian/Santa was just a blast & perfectly casted for this film. The story plot was really simple to follow. It has its Xmas/family story throw in there mixed up with a action. Trudy was very fun, and even the o.g himself
Leguizamo was just as good as Harbour.
No Escape (2015)
0 to 100, real quick
This is what it looks like when you go to a foreign country and you don't tune in to see how the atmosphere is over there before traveling. Like oh idk maybe weather, people, government, and hot spots you don't want to be at, crime rate, how they are with foreigner's, besides knowing where the American embassy (a must) is basically all the above. This is,the epitome 0 to 100 real quick real freaking quick...very well paced movie.action, drama, suspense all done well. Owen acted his ass off in this film. Easily one of his best films to date for me. I can't lie though the daughters especially the oldest started getting super annoying, understandable but annoying lol. The wife was irritating me in the 1st act but she shined through in the 2nd & 3rd act, and performed amazingly.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Not bad at all, well done
Wow...where to start this movie played on them heart strings & then some.
1st off Shuri (Letitia Wright) severely impressed me from the last film. They put this on her shoulders & Tenoch & Angela and my goodness did they ever shine thru.
2nd Romonda (Angela Bassett) myyyy goodness. To say that you felt her performance is an understatement for me. You could clearly see each prior actor was dealing with this in their own way.
3rd Namor or N'amor 😏(Tenoch Huerta) I am a avid believer in portraying the characters as they were created,im not a big fan of race, gender bending in any way, I have to say this I was HEAVILY impressed Tenoch showcased Namor's several sides of Namor I've grown accustomed to reading & Tenoch delivered. I actually enjoyed the polar opposite to Wakanda yet similarities of both nations as well.
Scene stealer number 4 was M'Baku everytime he was on the screen it was his film, hilarious character. The changes made felt right fit this movie, not saying it will work for every film but felt & meshed well with it's other parts. Now story alone they pulled from a few different ones. They could have done a proper DOOMWAR arc yeah, but they did well overall. While at the same time showing Homage to Chadwick that post scene was spot on letting you know T'Challa is still here & could open up to other possibilities like T'Challa & Storm. I do wish it had more action scenes or should I say that final battle had been a bit longer 😏. Overall good film good tribute waiting to see what the future holds.
Black Adam (2022)
Wasn't Great, But Wasnt Bad Either, Future is Promising
Not to bad of a film, but felt like it was stuck in the 90's which isn't generally bad. It just didn't work as much as I hoped for. Atom Smasher was the comedic relief, funny cause a few fans yelled out generic Deadpool which made the crowd laugh more. His role was honestly not needed,he didn't add or take away from the film. Cyclone was another character in the same manner didn't add nothing to the film. It felt like just another character just in there to fill a role. I did overall love the action very many hilarious moments but an extreme overkill of slow motion as if the director had just got done watching 300 or something. The post scene was one of the few highlights which made the future a bit more promising. Wasn't great, but wasn't bad either, now with Gunn & Safran in the leadership roles maybe this ship can continue moving in the right direction for general fans overall & not just certain fans.
DC Showcase: Death (2019)
Damn Good Short..No Lie
Really well put together story, visuals & meaning throughout the film. The way the art was displayed was just great while the character deep story kept you waiting to see what would happen next, pretty sad story too as well. Highly recommended.
Morbius (2022)
Not a bad start, to something promising later on
Let me get this out the way, this film had the a certain issue which VENOM had when it dropped for me. Now...
Pros:
*The PLOT was easy to follow straight to the point, you know exactly what Michael is doing & for what reason & why he does what he does, when things go wrong
*Theme was just fine for me overall, though it might fall for some, in this department depends on the individual
*Characters is both a pro & con for me, you have some who were enjoyable, some you might care less for. Michael, Martine & Emil were the ones I enjoyed more & wanted to see more of in this film
*Attention to detail when it came to showing us his abilities was very interesting for me. The hearing, sonar, flight, speed in a manner I personally haven't seen before so that was refreshing. We already seen plenty of super strength.
Cons:
*Action "Venom Effect" as I call it, there are action scenes in the film lol some looked good once you got use to the speed trail effect during the lighter scenes, but some of the more darker ones "Venom effect" you could barely make out at times what is actually transpiring cause it's so dark.
*Villain was just boring this is where the film was falling for me. Just wasn't a overall good villain. Motives you get, but overall Milo just wasn't it. Why not use BLACKOUT maybe or VIC SLAUGHTER who's just a ruthless vampire from Morbius own creation which I thought Milo was suppose sorta at 1st,but fell extremely short..since where diving into the more cosmic side now LILLITH would've been interesting character to use, but enough on that, decent start for a origin see it for yourself, only way to go from here is up.
Infinite (2021)
Concept was there, execution wasn't
Like the headline saids, honestly it was a very interesting concept with the whole, having the ability to have infinite lives and be reincarnated keeping the memories & skills you have learned through all your past lives, but how they executed that concept was poorly written. Just kept seeing scenes from past films. Just Marky Mark doing Marky Mark as usual, with some decent action sequences which is why I gave it a 4. Plot was almost everywhere & the main villain motive was just so bland "your tired of ring brought back, so everyone has to die" ooooo k.
Hawkeye (2021)
Straight Up Blast
Look let these haters hate, everyone has a job to do feel me. This series was the best & well timed series Disney has dropped yet. Family fun, Action when it counts, Story was also nice and subtle. Goodness this show was peppered with fan service throughout. Not to mention the cameos, of characters that some people might not even know of, and ones who people will loose their minds over. The MCU saga continues with bright future it seems.
Encanto (2021)
A Good Family Film, With A Old School Disney Touch
Gone are the days in which Disney dropped a banger of film that where basically musicals. Yet to a certain point you didn't care cause the story was good, the music was good, the art was amazingly good. Well it seems since FROZEN they are trying to gain that old magic back. If they keep going like this they just might. It was a pleasure seeing another ethnic Latin animated film from a different part of the Latin world. The films message was nice. I'm sure there some folks out there who has seen themselves in Mirabel shoes as far as how they are treated by their own family. As with any film, some songs hit some didn't. Overall very entertaining.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Interesting First Film...it definitely has room for growth.
I'll say this, if you don't know much about the 1st video game in particular & some of the 2nd..you will not know what is going on lol. You will see this as a regular generic zombie film. With that out of the way I have to give cred when it's due, it's a very decent start to a revamping (hopefully) of the franchise. This film is about as close as we're going to get to the video game source. The gore, story, and action (wished there was more)was pretty good once it got going. Definitely keep watching for the post credit scene which was kinda a fan service & direction of where they could take it.
Black as Night (2021)
Why? JUST WHY?
This was a complete utter waste of film, horrible acting, plot was beyond horrid, visuals where somewhat okay, but still. This is not a film I would have under my belt if I was AmazonStudios my goodness.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
I mean THEY TRIED....is all I can Say
Look it's not as horrid as it's being made out to be, but as a hard fan of the anime which was my 1st introduction back in 2000, I'm sure it came out maybe 1-2 yrs before that. There's just certain anime you don't ATTEMPT to adapt to live action. Matter of fact there is A TON of anime you don't adapt to live action period. "IT IS THE VERY REASON WHY IT IS AN ANIME"..let the classic be just that, a classic. It is very rare to get a accurate or at the minimum a decent adaptation of a anime classic. HOLLYWEIRD just won't learn, especially these streaming sites. Just because comicbook films & anime is what's on fire right now doesn't mean everything will be. This isn't on the actors solely, the writers n director failed this one heavily.
Army of Thieves (2021)
I can't believe what I just saw!
Slightly better than A. O. Dead, seeing as this is a prequel I believe it was said. Once again there is zombie apocalypse starting who the hell cares about money, this story plot os hilarious. The best part of the film for me was the detail on the mechanisms going on within the bank door, when it was being cracked. The character himself Ludwig did not need a solo film at all IMO. Yet here we are lol good ol'Netflix. At least there letting Snyder do the films he wants to do. Which is good regardless of how some of us may feel. Yet other than that it's a basic heist movie that clearly Ocean's 11,12 & 13 did bounds better with better story & cast. As well as other heist films. Definitely nothing to do kill time film, that's it.
Dune: Part One (2021)
Visually a great movie but other than that....
Where do I begin, ok first off, I get it, you have to do some world building, but damn 1hr & 20+mins of freaking world Building are you serious? It's not that damn serious, If it wasn't for the visuals alone I would've rated this lower which was its saving grace for me. I thought I was watching a long boring StarWars film for the most part. Then the next 1hr & however many minutes left in the film is when it got somewhat interesting. The sand worms automatically made me think of Beetlejuice & Star Wars where Luke has to save himself & Han. The main huge battle was interesting, the machines designs themselves were interesting. Yet that's it, nothing really stuck out to me as amazing or mind blowing.
Malignant (2021)
This mess was funny lmao, nice try tho
An 80's horror/crime/slasher flick which had tremendous potential only to be a hilarious damn near comedy by the 2nd act going into the 3rd. Does the film entertain you Yeah some what, was it easy to predict who was the killer Yeah pretty much there was only 2 possible suspects that it could've been, amazingly they where one in the same 🤣😂. A decent kill time flick.
Held (2020)
Good attempt, but bad execution
I mean I get what they where trying to do but literally. As soon as the supposedly first attack on her happened, it was easy to see it's either the husband or someone the husband is working. Movies like this tend to be repetitive & easy to figure out. The 2nd & 3rd act was just somewhat bland for me.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Well Well looks like the Gunn's Have Done It Again!
I didn't want go off just one viewing, so off my 2nd viewing my thoughts still remain the same, this was a great improvement, the whole DEADPOOL 2 bit in the beginning was HILARIOUS to my fam,I must admit it was funny can't lie. It was funny in his film & it was funny now. Things I enjoyed were the characters which had a little more depth this go round as far as their back story, the action, the gore all were on point,my favorite characters of the film hands down was KING SHARK & BLOODPSORT,story plot was pretty easy had some thing's that didn't click for me,but overall the film was put together much better & a good number of Easter eggs especially John Ostrander, some scenes pulled straight out the comics which surprise me,this film is most definitely rank up there as far as top DC films for me,with W. Woman,Aquaman etc... is would BEHOVE WB to give Gunn more than just a Peacemaker series & have him tackle more films period as well as Taika, just saying, also loved the cameos G. O. T. Galaxy cameos as well definite fun time a strong
🎞🎞🎞 1/2 or possible 4 but out of 5 from me but since we on IMDB I gave it the rating I did,it most definitely earned it.
Jolt (2021)
Really?! That's Not what I was expecting
Went in hoping this movie would be good seeing as I mean it's freaking Kate from "Underworld damn it" & I should've dialed it down..first off the plot was sorta predictable in funny way, the film did have some decent/good parts but that was mainly when the action scenes kicked off when there was a action scene. Both the cops in the film where at times bout as smart as a bag of rocks😂sometimes they sorta knew what they where doing. I don't know if it was the bad jokes or what but it was just not doing it. Kate did her thing as expected but the other characters have just needed a little more. The way it ended easily work in a part 2 though Idk why,but hey maybe it gets better from here.
Blood Red Sky (2021)
U know what,THAT was damn Entertaining Vampire movie!
I enjoy a good vampire, werewolf, monster type film like any other fan of the genre. I was actually pretty damn impressed. 1st off the movie jumps off straight from the beginning with the situation at hand,I love a film that doesn't draw out the story before the action starts. You get the simple back story of how the illness happen gradually as the messed up situation continues to escalate on the plain. Action was peppered throughout the film enough where wit keeps you engaged. Now that being said I was slightly disappointed with how I guess fragile she was during her change (meaning vampires usually have abilities strength, speed, enhanced vision, etc) in the film I took it as she's was just learning these new abilities since she never let herself go so far in the change. Other than that good entertaining vampire film.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Why did I Even Bother....
I honestly thought I was walking into a Haunting on Hill House situation where the series was done, so good, had genuine actually well placed scare moments. The story plot is actually good, but damn was I EVER, EVER wrong. This thing was drawn out way to damn long and it was not needed at home but all. But what ain't for me could be for someone else.
Werewolves Within (2021)
Umm What did I just watch Lol!
Already knew coming into this it was a comedy horror, it did have some comedy but, once I broke it down to the culprit being one of two people Cecily & Parker after about 25mins in,glad to see I was right on one of em, almost thought it wasn't going to happen. Predictable, somewhat funny, an easy time killer movie. Don't go in thinking your going well to see werewolf in action much cause that's not the case..
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Trying to be something it isn't
It was a good attempt but one that fell short, a film that's definitely not for me...wasn't feeling the actors in it at all & the story plot tho easy to guess & predict what's going to happen. I get the whole trying to be bring back the 90's era of horror vibe but it wasn't working once so ever. It was done way better back then.
