Did the script read smarter on the page? Clunk. The writing is so poor.... There are some great British actors who deserve so much better... Rea, Morrissey, Lloyd. Maybe the two leads would have come across as better actors *if* the script had been better written. Not sure. They are totally unbelievable as presented here. What a waste of resources this whole project is.
As another review points out googling for "prime numbers" is ridiculous and totally undercuts the seriousness of the world building. How did that get okayed? Audiences are smarter than that. It's insulting. Please hire better writers in the future.

This was fun and fairly smart! I am not a huge fan of the Bill Lawrence aesthetic. I couldn't bear "Shrinking" and Ted Lasso after Season 1. However, the writing here was smart, engaging and tonally right on.
I think the setting in the Keys and Bahama added a lot to the interest of the show. The acting all around (almost) is quite good! I enjoyed Vaughn and in particular Turner-Smith as the Dragon Queen. She was really excellent and magnetic. The one actor I thought was really out of her league was the person who played Rosa. She came across as self-conscious and not believable at all. I do hope she's really gone and not in subsequent seasons.

The best part was the legal tangle. What a fantastic turn by Saarsgard. It is a true pleasure to watch him act. Camp is fun and OT Fagbenle has a smallish role but his line readings are so interesting and added to the scenes.
I wish the writing around the family interactions had been better. The kids were not that believable and as much as I love Ruth Negga I found her acting to be oddly overdone with too many pauses. Wish there had been more of Lily Rabe.
Finally, it was a relief to see Gyllenhaal is something with a smarter script than he's been in for some time. The RoadHouse movie was not good IMO. He's been doing a lot of action/thriller flicks that I won't watch. He is compelling here as an unlikeable person but I'd much rather see more of Saarsgard, Camp and OT Fagbenle.
