I watched this movie many many years ago and actually thought , "Wow this a cool movie". I guess we are spoiled with CGI and such, In the past you expected a war movie with actual fighting going on and if someone wore a helmet or GI greens it was a war movie. I've watched a lot of old black and white war movies (pre nineteen sixty) and they are all full of romance, dancing, musicals and drama rather than actual war action. This movie starts out with out with five minutes of actual war footage from the archives then turns into some drawn out bunker drama with soldiers bickering like wet hens instead of actually fighting. Although the fighting is scant and poorly done, if you like war time drama and virtually no actual fighting, this is for you. Might as well put Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in here like most war song and dance/romance movies did at the time. All drama no action.
