It was really hard to rate this series because there were parts I loved and parts I hated. There are scenes that are absolutely hilarious, action scenes, scenes that you can't help but roll your eyes, times where the melodrama is over the top, times you can't help but cry. Overall, it was worth watching and I've now seen the series twice.
It's a very long series and especially towards the end. It seemed like they were just creating scenes and situations to extend the series farther. The last two episodes, especially, were nothing but pandering to fans.
I liked this series much better than Boys Over Flowers. The characters in Meteor Garden, especially the male lead, were well developed. And for the most part, more sympathetic and easier to relate to than BOF. Well, it still has the same basic premise and many of the same scenes, meteor garden is different enough from boys over flowers that you won't be bored watching it.

First of all, I would not call this a comedy. Like most dramas, it does contain a few elements of comedy, but it is not a comedy. Secondly, this so can be split into two very different parts. The first half is more of a light drama with a focus on school pressure and parental expectations and the blossoming romance between the two main leads. The it shifts to a thriller - I won't give any details, but it's almost like the writer's mood shifted midway through writing it. Then shifted back. It was like watching 2 very different shows simultaneously. The show is pretty well done and acted. But the storyline is definitely not what one would expect after watching the trailer. Also, it was really distracting that they kept emphasizing how young the female lead was supposed to be, and that she was supposedly the same age as the male lead, but the actress is definitely at least 10 years older. Which would have been fine if they hadn't kept trying to convince the audience otherwise. All in all, it was OK enough that I did finish watching the series, but won't be watching it again.
This drama was just ok. Nothing special. The lead male had almost zero chemistry with the lead female until at least 3/4 the way through the series. He was a ok actor. His character was fairly immature, which I think was the point, but I also didn't really understand why she fell for him based on their interaction. The 2nd male lead actually had more chemistry with her - and was pretty funny and entertaining! The lead actress's brother was pretty funny as well. Overall, a slow- moving drama. (it definitely could have been completed in about 10 fewer episodes) A little awkward at times. But clean, and I did laugh out loud a few times.
