I absolutely love this show. I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it, but I did and now I'm hooked. Fantastic acting and a great story. The characters are really brought to life. Writer, comedienne and actress Meera Syal navigates her characters through the emotional roller-coaster of the coming-of-middle-youth--the time when the real growing up is done, with her trademark wit and sensitivity. From the bitching at the celebration to the heavy embroidery and tears of a traditional Indian wedding, through infidelity, TV documentaries and betrayal, Syal regales the viewer with the strengths and limits of female friendship. Great Television! From the Guardian: "Syal plays Sunita, frittering her life away in a dismal job and lifeless marriage to Akaash (Sanjeev Bhaskar), while Ayesha Dharker plays Chila, considered by all to have hit the jackpot by bagging the "Prince Charming of Chigwell", Deepak (Ace Bhatti). Third friend Tania (Laila Rouass), a documentary producer, shoots a video of Chila and Deepak's wedding and is encouraged by her boss to use it for a film about the meaning of love in the Indian community. But when the film is premiered, the secrets revealed within it threaten to destroy the womens' relationships for good."
