This is a very well done documentary. The method of telling the story through the eyes of William Shirer. The reenactments are also very well done in their depiction of various events. But when I heard repeated comparisons to aspects of Nazism to the Make America Great Again movement. And comparing the Berghof to Mar-a-Lago sealed it. I wondered if Netflix would do this and the Obama-run streaming service did not disappoint. It made this otherwise very good historical documentary into a quasi Trump bashing session. It didn't happen often, but it's definitely there. Kind of a shame, really, to see that.
This was a near-perfect movie--until the last 20 minutes. I can't believe such a well-written, well-acted movie could go south so quickly. Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and even Dennis Quaid give phenomenal performances. The eerie plot and suspenseful sequences just build beautifully on one another, again until the final scene. It's almost as if the writers said, "we've already made a great horror movie, let's end it as a comedy now." It's THAT inane. Don't get me wrong, this movie is worth a watch, just turn it off before the final scene. One last thing, props to Demi Moore at 61 yrs doing nudity. That took courage.
