The Return of Swamp Thing (1989)
Quite the swamp romp!
I have never seen the original Swamp Thing, and thanks to the love I have for this movie, I am not bothered by the fact at all. I used to rent this movie on VHS as a kid constantly. I didn't even know that he was a DC character until I was much older. The great thing is, if you haven't seen the first film, you are not missing anything whatsoever. The Return of Swamp thing is "B movie" fun, while also being well-paced and doesn't take itself too seriously. It has a young Heather Locklear, pretty solid practical effects and a good deal of action. Go into it with an open mind, an open heart and just the right amount of edibles.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (2021)
Fun and wholesome
I'm sure you're going to read some reviews about this show that will be negative and probably a little rude. I get it. If you're a fan of the original trilogy, you may think you're too old to watch this or that is will be lame, but I beg to differ. Yes, it's not the Mighty Ducks of old, but it's fun, heartwarming and just makes you feel good. Life is too short to hate everything. This show has some decent laughs, not-so-terrible acting and moves the story along at a reasonable pace. If you want a lighthearted show to watch to counterbalance all of the negative crap in the world, this show will do the trick.
Friendsgiving (2020)
Solid with a Decent Run Time
Look, this isn't a Kubrick film, but it was fun enough and was only like 93 minutes. Great cast, decent humour and a dash of the feels. Might become my go to turkey day film to watch after Planes, Trains and Automobiles is finished. There are a lot of attractive people in this film, which is always a plus. The food didn't look real, but when does food in a movie actually look real? Don't listen to the other lame nerds who wrote negative things about this movie. They obviously take life and film watching way too seriously. So, put together a plate of leftovers, turn this movie on and enjoy a few chuckles. What's the worst that can happen?
Cherry Falls (1999)
Look, it's not that great but....
It took me 22 years to see this movie. I was stoked to do so, but was left wanting more. There are a few good death scenes, but what really did it for me was all the strange and long stares that occurred between characters. Some were sexy, some were evil and some were just plain weird. Cherry Falls, more like Cherry Balls.
Mother's Day (1980)
A yearly watch!
I introduced this Troma gem to my partner when we first started dating. She is a wonderful mom and an avid horror movie fan. We now watch it every year on Mother's Day. It's just the right mix of funny, gory and '80s cheese.
A Muppet Family Christmas (1987)
A true Christmas classic!
My mom made me a tape of Xmas special recorded off of TV, and this has remained a staple of my holiday watching. Funny, heartfelt and festive!
Turbo Kid (2015)
Doesn't get more awesome than this.
This movie has virtually everything that I enjoyed as a child and still enjoy today. Post-apocalypse themes, BMX bikes, excellent practical effects, killer soundtrack, likeable characters and god damn Michael Ironside! It's just a fun, honest and heartfelt movie that I get stoned and watch on my birthday every year.
Waiting... (2005)
Hilarious
This movie is a fun, comedic romp. It's has dick jokes, sexy Ryan Reynolds and teaches the lesson of respecting the people who serve you food. What else could you want?
Cyborg (1989)
A lot of fun, if you don't take it too seriously!
I used to rent this movie all the time as a kid, as I've always enjoyed apocalyptic movies, and I still do. This movie is the classic "hero's tale". It has some great action sequences, gore and cinematography. It was also made on a shoestring budget by one of my favourite defunct film companies, Cannon!
