I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can (1982)
Really Overrated Demonization Of Benefit's Of Valium!
Yes Valium is addictive, but there's addiction and dependence. I'm not sure if Barbara Gordon was a victim of malpractice or addiction. I've had GAD for years. Started when I lost my mother at age 35. Right out the gate, my Primary Care Dr.put me on a SSRI. After 7 different ones, I ended up in the ER. The film is based on the memoir of Barbara Gordon, a successful Documentary filmmaker who is living with her alcoholic boyfriend who's Therapist who puts her on Valium. I'm allergic to pretty much every SSRI med for anxiety! My Psychiatrist put me on Valium in 2007. My mother took Valium. In the film, Barbara Gordon seems to need more and more of Valium to get through her day. Either she or her Therapist keeps upping her dosage. She finally has a nervous breakdown. At this point she's several pills a day. She's trying to finish a Documentary that is never addresses how she's related to the women she's doing this for, but it's implied she has a connection to her, just isn't explained. The star of the movie is Valium as there's holes in the plot! I take my Valium like my mother did. Some days I take 2 10mg tablets, others I don't take it, and then there's days that I need 3 to 4 tablets. Generally when something serious or bad happens, like the day my husband got a melanoma diagnosis. The sedative effect is low now as my tolerance has built up, but the anxiolytic effect of the med still works fine. It's the only alternative that has worked! You can't just quit this medication cold turkey or you have rebound anxiety and/or seizures. SSRIs are not the "miracle drugs" without addiction they claim and millions of people are on them. The ending of this movie is exaggerated as her Therapist wants to put her on Thorazine. She decides to go cold turkey and fights with her alcohol boyfriend who keeps her captive in their apartment. Her withdrawal symptoms are overwhelming. She eventually is heard by friends who call the apartment and hear her screaming for help. They rescue her and she enters a treatment center. It's like the film is trying to keep people who need these meds from getting a Rx for them. I've never read her memoir and what I know about Barbara Gordon is from this movie. The movie over exaggerates the dangers of a drug that has been demonized as abusive and addictive. Drs. Created the same problem w/pain meds and made them hard to get. Not everyone who uses pain medication uses it everyday. Movies like this makes it look like everyone who takes med's stigmatized as addictive, have lumped the abusers into the same group of people who take as prescribed or as needed. It's like smoking, you have to want to quit in order to be able to quit!
Pistol (2022)
Great Series, But Not Entirely Sure Of Accuracy!
This is a great Biopic of the most influential and still important bands to come out of the U. K. Punk scene! Their career was short and just over around two and a half years long, but they are still as relevant today as they where when they released their Iconic album "Never Mind The Bullocks, Here's The Sex Pistols " was released in 1977! It reached #1 in the U. K. which was going through a very depressing period of time with the economy, unemployment, and bags of garbage stacked up in the streets as several workers we're on strike!
In 1974, Steve Jones, who had a band called "The Strand" that Malcom McLaren finally decided to manage , leased rehearsal space for the band to practice. McLaren and Vivienne Westwood had a bondage and S&M themed shop on the notorious Kings Road in Chelsea, London. The shop was called SEX! McLaren went to New York in November of that same year to promote and try to manage The New York Dolls. What he saw in lower Manhattan from Richard Hell, Television, The Ramones , and The Stooges was enough inspiration for him to go back to the U. K. and try to form a Punk band out of "The Strand"! He even tried to steal Sylvain Sylvain from The New York Dolls to front his new band. He declined as did Richard Hell. Desperate for a frontman, they came across John Lydon, who became Johnny Rotten! According to Lydon which he is known as now, McLearn was a "Shyster" who would do anything to make money. As most people know , Lydon got his name from his rotten teeth. It's also a question if McLearn made any money at all off of the Sex Pistol's! Numerous trashed hotel rooms, arrest, and lawsuits plagued them for several years after they disbanded!
The rest of the band history is pretty much well know by fans and generations of Punk fans as well as Alternative fans! The issues that I have with this series is that, yes The Sex Pistol's where very cutting edge and did some insane things when appearing live! What the Biopic neglects to mention is the New York Punk scene that was already going on mostly in the Bowery District. The New York Dolls where considered pretty insane as the band was comprised of men dressed in drag singing songs like "Personality Crisis" and "Vietnamese Baby" which was released in the summer of 1973! The album wasn't a best seller, but it should be noted that they where an influence on the Sex Pistol's! Their onstage vulgarity is well documented and they where the subject of much negative attention from the newspapers and live appearances! So, it's questionable exactly who and where Punk got it's start! It's also worth mentioning that Iggy And The Stooges where pretty insane as well as before Woodstock, they where known for their destructive behavior and Iggy's self mutilation on stage.
As I've mentioned, the rest of The Sex Pistol's history is pretty much accurate in this biopic. The biggest thing that I didn't know and I found very shocking, was how close Steve Jones was with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretender's. She arrived in London after leaving Kent State University, where she was in a band with a future member of Devo. After the Vietnam Protest in which 4 people where killed, she moved to London after graduating and starting working for NME Music Magazine. She eventually found herself working at McLaren and Westwood's shop. She was romantically involved with Jones and hoped that they would let her be the front woman of the band. It's kind of amazing how small the world is and how much different things would have been if she was hired to be the lead singer of one of the most important and infamous bands ever to exist!
The rest is pretty much accurate and probably one of the best biopic series I've ever seen about The Sex Pistol's! It's just unbelievable that I recently purchased a new release from Japan of their music that I think has something to do with this series. It came out in May 2022! I also have a lot of other releases on both vinyl and Mini LP CDs from Japan, plus a few first pressing singles. I'm 52 and still enjoy them from time to time.

Where Are These Kind Of Shows Now?
This was one of the best series that my husband and myself have watched and now it's hard to find anything remotely close to this series on any channel or streaming service! I realize that the Pandemic has been a torn in the side of Hollywood and it's basically going to be a very long and hard process before we will get back to where these kind of series will be back to be starting production. The future of Television is looking extremely bleak and it's like some of the series we were watching are winding down or they have just been cancelled entirely. We've watched this twice while staying inside and trying to prevent getting Covid! It's just unbelievable how much it has changed everything now and I have to be careful about getting it as my husband is extremely high risk as he has respiratory issues already.
We've binged watched this series and several other series over the last few years since around March of 2019. I honestly don't know why we are paying for cable anymore as nearly everything we watch is on a streaming source!
This series was just a great western themed series with great actors and an incredible look at life both on Native America Reservations and how they have their own laws and off of their land, which if we're being honest it's all their land, and how our Country handles criminal activity!
One of the absolute greatest shows to binge watch!
Uncoupled (2022)
"Sex And The City" Finally For The Gay Man!
This is very much like the "Sex In The City" for gay men who are hitting the big Five 0! I had a very difficult time with realizing that I had reached 50 yrs old and that was two years ago. It's especially hard on me as my partner and now husband of 23 yrs is going to be 80 his next birthday. 23 years just flew by and we have lived in a monogamous relationship and as a married couple since we moved in together. We made if official before Trump took office. We had already been to a lawyer and done the proper paperwork in 2012 after my husband was hospitalized and almost died. The lawyer told us "Congratulations, you're as married as you can get in Texas until marriage equality becomes law." That was enough for us both, but we felt like an extra layer of protection was a good idea.
In my opinion, this show is actually better than "Sex And The City" as it is about a group of gay men who are good friends and each one has their differences as far as age, weight, and race. It's very good that it has a diverse group of similar aged men as this is exactly how our friends are. It's just unbelievable how relatable this is to most groups of gay men. "Sex In The City" was like a gay friend, but it was mostly about the women. Personally, I think Samantha (Kim Cantrell) is why gay men watched the show. I don't care much for the new series "And Just Like That" as the focus is on only three of the original main characters and they have kind of just left the male character like David Eigenberg (Steve) and Eric Handler (Harry) are basically out of the picture. Sadly we lost one of my favorite characters Willie Garson way too soon! He was absolutely a delight to watch and loved by many people! We've only managed to watch about 4 episodes and that was it. The first episode was a complete shocker and "Mr. Big" dies! I know there's some reasons why he got the axe, but it hurt the show in my opinion.
A lot of people feel like this is an unfair perception of how gay men in this country live and are treated. It's purely for entertainment and it is a fantasy situation where they all have good jobs and nice things. There's nothing wrong with that and you can't take this too serious! My only reason for not giving this a 10 star rating is because it was kind of predictable. I knew that Tuc Watkins was going to show up before the series ended. The show is basically about the primary couple who have been in a relationship for 17 years. Micheal, played by Neil Patrick Harris plans a surprise 50th birthday party for his partner Collin, played by the incredibly handsome Tuc Watkins, only to discover that he is being left after being together for 17 years. I can't even phantom my husband leaving me after all the years we've been together.
Darren Starr did a terrific job with this show and it better get a second season if "And Just Like That" has received a second season. It's suppose to be a fantasy life and it's not to be taken as a documentary or something that's serious. No, most gay men in this country do not live in this kind of spectacular "fantasy land" that is portrayed by the show. That's part of the entertainment value of the show. If allows us to forget about Covid which is not done with it's destruction yet, as well as Monkeypox that is a horrible situation and is being stigmatized as a gay disease. It's sad that gay men are actually bashing this incredible show because of their own personal life experience as a gay man.
I love that Tisha Campbell (Suzanne) was casted in this show as Neil Patrick Harris' (Micheal) side kick as they play very well off of each other as real estate agents. I've really missed her presence on television. I also like that they included André De Shields in this as well as he's the Senior Citizen that's more knowledgeable who has lived through the worst time in history to be gay. I hope that he stays around. It's just a lot of diversity that you don't find in show's targeted at the gay male audience! Most are for the younger gays and monogamy is not even a thought that they consider. It's all about the sex.
We watched this series from start to end twice now and I can relate to Neil Patrick Harris' character in so many ways. Everything about dating has completely changed and it's kind of terrifying to think that I might be in his position at some point. Long gone are the days of meeting someone who wants a monogamous relationship or you meet someone who has a lot of baggage. Trust is something that took me a couple of years to finally discover. Both of my previous relationships ended because I was too trusting and they had been cheating on me. I immediately got tested and never had unprotected sexual contact. I also hate being by myself and it's going to be hard for me. Both my parents are gone, and I'm out of relatives. So, transitioning to only myself in our home and bed is going to be difficult. But, I keep telling myself no one knows what will happen as far as which one of us will be the first to go.
This is the best new show on right now that is similar to the things that monogamous and married real life gay couples and single men have to live with as far as dating, if they become single. It covers everything from Prep, which I would never use, to Grinder, also an app I think is really scary and I think it's kind of a dangerous way to find people who just want sex. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I have had two prior relationship's before meeting my soulmate and the thought of not having him in my life if absolutely terrifying.
Criminal Minds (2005)
Great Show To Binge Watch During The Pandemic!
This is a really good series to watch during this Pandemic! There's over 300 episodes that should be plenty for people who like crime shows. It's kind of interesting to watch these in this style as well because the story lines tend to lead into the next episode. Also no commercials. I am fascinated at how many popular songs are used in the various episode's. Everything from The Pixies to The Rolling Stones. That wasn't cheap especially when these episode's originally aired. It's shows that this crime drama was well funded.
I have noticed that they often say there in a certain location , but it's not the actual location of the city or area where they are allegedly trying to solve crimes. The first time I really noticed this was while we we're binge watching this series and they where suppose to be in Central Florida. There was a quite large mention range in the background and it's Desert like where Florida has no mountains and is a swamp like area. I never noticed these small details when we watched the show when it originally aired. Another thing is if you look closely at the jet the team uses, the model and tail number is often different from show to show, but the interior is identical in every episode in the first few years of the series. My favorite line was when the team said that they could drive from the D. C. area to South Boston VA. South Boston is way out on the western tip of VA. I'm not surprised that most of the show was filmed around the Hollywood area. It would have been extremely expensive for the show to film in various locations like Baltimore or Central Florida. So, I don't have a problem with that particular issue as many shows say there in a different location , but it's obvious to those who live in these areas that there's nowhere remotely similar to the location that they are claiming to be in. My husband gets the credit for the jets and the different numbers as well as different models. Sometimes it has more windows than it had in a previous episode. Something I would have never caught!
I don't really have any issues with these errors , but it's just something I didn't notice until we started Binge Watching this show. It's actually terrible that the show went out the way it did. I thought that Aisha Tyler did an exceptional job on this show and I read that the show is planning a reboot which I'm looking forward to seeing. I hope that they bring back some of the characters that weren't involved in the scandals that happened near the end of this incredible series.
Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland (2016)
This One is Worse Than the First One!
If there was ever a need to have a movie to show a totally unlikeable character, this one really fills the bill. The character "Thad" is the most obnoxious guy in the universe. In one scene in a restaurant when Alex is trying to get Thad to buy the house, Thad and his brother are telling jokes resulting in Thad saying to his brother "that was really funny, write yourself a check!" and "that was really funny, write me a check!" I liked Alan Ritchson in the movie Reacher. Comparing the two characters he plays in the two Blue Mountains and in Reacher is nothing short of impossible. I guess it's supposed to show what a good actor Ritchson really is. The other characters is this movie really stretch reality: Alex is a selfish conniving jerk; the dean is clueless; which coach is the coach? And Donnie is gay again with no story line to go with it.
Basically the plot here is that Thad will buy the Goat House if Alex will throw him the party to end all parties. When you see the resulting "party" it's obvious that Alex and company have spent more money on the party than what it would have cost to buy the Goat House several times over. Again, a reality check is needed. I'm sorry if I'm the only person to think this movie is stupid, but for me it started out stupid and then just got worse.
Blue Mountain State (2010)
Who Wrote the Positive Reviews??
I'm at a loss to see how this trashy movie got so many favorable reviews. I couldn't even watch the entire thing! The Alex character is made out to be this great hustler who easily gets all the girls. Who believes that? Why make the Donnie character gay and do nothing with or about that fact? I suppose I should have watched this movie before I saw Reacher, because I'm having a very difficult time reconciling the character Alan Ritchson plays in Reacher with the doofus he plays in this movie. Sure this movie is based on college football. Big whoop! If there had been much more football and less screwing around, it would have been a lot better. Sorry, I just couldn't get into such adolescent crap.
Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
This Is Funny As It Should Be. It's A Parody People!
I see a lot of people giving this star studded movie 2 and 3 star ratings for it being "Ridiculous" or "Corny", but that's exactly what I expected it to be. None of the movies in this trilogy are suppose to be taken seriously. It's just chocked full of unbelievable antics and I doubt that it was considered anything but a comical joke by the producers and directors. This is suppose to be completely unbelievable and it's a parody of the 70's TV series that it takes it's namesake from.
If you can find some of the original shows from the television series, you will be surprised at how ridiculous they appear now. How this show stayed on from 1976 until 1981, with all the behind the scenes drama between the actresses, is beyond me. It's even more unbelievable than this movie or the other two.
There are some extremely interesting cameo appearances by several people, both actors and actresses, musicians, and comedian's. It's worth a watch to see a movie with John Cleese and Janet Du'bois , Willona from the epic 1970"s iconic TV show "Good Times" in the same film. Their are several people from the motorcycle world and the musician Pink.
This to me, is suppose to be exactly what it is, a parody of a TV show that was infamous for the behind the scenes drama that these movies are based on. I knew that these movies where going to be more about comedy and unbelievable stunts that no one could pull off in real life. It's not suppose to be serious. I think many of the low reviews know this , but they apparently have a different since of humor than my husband and I have when it comes to comedy/action films. I personally like this film better than the second installment of this trilogy. Rest In Peace , Bernie Mac. Your comedy, which would be condemned in 2022, was absolutely hilarious.
Outer Banks (2020)
Filmed in Charleston SC! Not The Outer Banks!
I grew up in Norfolk VA and as a teenager and young adult, I frequently visited different places in the Outer Banks. I spent the summers of my late teenage years living in a friends cottage in Nags Head. I started watching this before reading the reviews here and it was immediately clear that this was not filmed in the Outer Banks of NC.. So knowing the area extremely well and seeing palm trees everywhere kind of destroyed any chance of getting through the first season of this overhyped and very predictable show! I am aware that movies are rarely filmed in the location that they portray, but the Outer Banks is not exactly a tropical paradise. It use to be a very serene and relaxing place with miles and miles of undisturbed beauty and nature. I occasionally look at Google Earth and I was shocked at how much of the land is know populated with expensive homes and other stuff that comes with this, it's kind of hard to believe how much it has changed over the years. The few palm trees you do see there are not indigenous to the region and they have to be wrapped up with plastic in order to survive the really harsh winter weather that is well known to locals that live there.
It's been 25yrs since I've been back to the Outer Banks, but the first thing I noticed was that there are way too many Pine trees. Also there are no caves that I can recall anywhere in the area. The second thing that is a dead give away is that the Outer Banks is a narrow barrier island that stretch's from the VA Border and well beyond Cape Hatteras. There's a large body of brackish water separating the island from the coast of NC called the "sound". It's kind of an insult that they named this show "Outer Banks" when the entire show is actually filmed in Charleston. I guess growing up and surfing up and down this region kind of destroyed the whole series for me personally. Right before the Pandemic started, we had planned to drive to this incredible location and visit the few small towns along this barrier island, but after seeing how much it has been developed since leaving the area, I was turned off and this series didn't help with that decision either.
The storyline is too predictable and trying to pass off the characters as underage teens doesn't work very well. It's obvious these people are in their 20's or 30's. It's like watching a real life version of Scooby Doo and it's just not realistic in my opinion! I guess my personal relationship with this incredible place, which like almost all of the once great and unspoiled coastal regions, has become overwhelmed by tourism and rich people building multimillion dollar houses in this area has turned me off on this series. I think Charleston is an incredible costal city in its own right, but I think that the name of the show should have been changed to something more fitting for the filming location.
I just can't watch something that I know is very inaccurate and only glorifies a place that once was one of the best kept surfing spots on the East Coast as well as a great place for various other outdoor activities harder to watch. Now shows like this have only made this incredible place even more expensive and overcrowded with trinket shops, restaurant's, and tourist attractions less like a National Seashore and more like a larger version of Florida! Personally, I can't stand Florida anymore and it's sad to see how much affect shows like this make these great places more desirable for living than enjoying the natural beauty of this once secluded place!
Texasbear.
Manifest: Mayday: Part 2 (2021)
So Angry in Great Britain!
There are plans for a fourth season! You of all people should realize that we're in the middle of a pandemic and it's not easy to film a show like this! Netflix is working on season four and possibly a season five. I agree that this is further out there than "Lost" as the first reviewer mentioned, it is getting to crazier with each episode. My husband has lost interest in the show and I don't know how much more I can take either. It should wrap up in the fourth season! I don't know how or why they would drag this out for two more seasons. It started out rather interesting, but it is completely gone off the rails, wrap it up in season four!
Edge of Seventeen (1998)
Very Nostalgic Look At My Teenage Years As A Gay Gen-Xer!
This movie is extremely reminiscent of my High School years. Everything is spot on here except for the fact that I didn't come out until I was 30. The neighborhood looks exactly like the one I grew up in living in Norfolk, VA. Sadly the last time I was there in 2009, it had declined so much I almost cried. I even had the same hair as the main character, but I had dyed mine black and cut it very short on the back and sides, then bleached the much longer top blonde. We bought clothes from the Goodwill store and we strived to show our individuality.
The soundtrack is the soundtrack of my teenage years, but I was into Punk as well. We wore black trench coats with spray painted Anarchy symbols and other band logos on the back. I still listen to almost every single band from this soundtrack and I own the vinyl albums for many of the songs. I was closeted and far from being OUT! My friends were all older than I was so there for, I was able to get into music clubs and other places that required me to be 21 at 15yrs old. It's when the drinking age went from 18 to 21. I took a friends social security card and I memorized his driving record and went to the DMV ( Division of Motor Vehicles ) and got my photo on his drivers license. I have always looked older and I could grow a full beard at 15yrs old. My mother worked for a concert promotion company and could get free tickets to see several New Wave bands and Punk bands. Most where at a venue called "The Boathouse", but it's been gone for awhile now! He was grandfathered in due to his birthday and he could still get into clubs. I stayed out of trouble and my mother had already been broken in by my two older siblings. We we're more like best friends than mother and son.
My mother was extremely trusting of my ability to make my own decisions. Her only rule was that I called her and tell her if I was going to be out all night and with whom I was with. I finished school and a couple of years of Community College but I started working for an Electrician wiring houses. I did this until I ultimately met my now husband on a solo trip to New Orleans at 29yrs old to see Phish. I have a very broad taste in music. He and I hit it off even though he's older than I am and was there for work. I moved to Texas in 2020 and have never been happier. I completely fell in love and I finally told my mother and stepfather about him. We've been in a monogamous relationship since March 2000. We continued to talk through the Internet with ICQ (the original Twitter) and by phone. After several flights back and forth between Norfolk and Austin, it made more sense for me to relocate to Texas. I started my own Electrical business here. He's my rock and my eternal soulmate. I knew this from our first meeting. He wasn't OUT, yet. An unfortunate medical situation changed that in 2012. We found out that we were not fooling anyone. We got married in 2016 before the election for extra protection.
I still have a bunch of the pin backs that where so popular in this era and a few old concert t-shirts that I could never get into now! I also have some great first pressing vinyl from this period as well as a bunch of picture sleeve 45s that are extremely valuable now. This was an amazing time period to be young and everything was much better!
Norma Rae (1979)
Almost As Good As A Documentary!
This movie is one that I love, but have an extremely hard time watching! I lived in a small S. C. town named Great Falls! Both my mother and father worked in the textile industry. It's exactly like what happens in this movie. I remember my mother taking me inside when I was still a very young boy and the machines and noise is exactly captured in this film! She worked as a bobbin pin setter. It was hot in these mills and they were dangerous if you didn't pay attention. They both worked for JP Stevens , a popular mill that made towels, dish towels, and other linens and these mills destroyed these small towns where they set up shop. They left them with catastrophic pollution issues. When I was like 5yrs old there where stores and all kind of businesses that where thriving in this small town. They built these mills on the local rivers and basically dumped their waste into the water, the same water the town used for drinking, then when the profits at these mills started to shut down as they figured out that moving these mills to other countries instead of paying these hard working people a fair wage and getting greedy, they just shut them down! It's not just that they closed them , but they also didn't clean up their mess!
My birth father passed away when I was 6yrs old. Luckily my mother reconnected with her high school sweetheart and we moved out of this toxic area and moved to Norfolk, VA. They worked in these textile mills as it was the only decent paying job for blue collar workers with only high school educations. My mother was just exactly like Norma Rae! She didn't cheat on her husband , and we had.moved by the time they tried to unionize them. But she had to cook, clean, work , and keep my older siblings out of trouble. She was just exhausted all the time especially after she was a widow. The companies shut down to avoid Unionization and now there's nothing there! I last was there, was in 2009 when my stepfather was buried beside my mother who died from cancer exactly 5yrs to the day that my stepfather passed away. It's probably no coincidence as I have ADHD and my half sister ended up with Leukemia, the kind that's treatable and in remission.
Now, they have an opioid problem, I have relatives there I don't know and two died within 4 months apart from opioid overdoses. There's very few jobs, no cellphone reception and you have to drive to another small town in order to get clothing. The only things that where still open was a grocery store. I walked into it at 39yrs old and it looked exactly like it did back in the 70s, even had the same isle markers from then.
It's definitely not propaganda or anything else but pure greed! Once the Mills closed, the town died. It is like a place frozen in time and the houses looked weathered and nothing has been kept up! It's not the towns fault, it's these companies that left them and they didn't do anything to help these people. Nor did the Senators who ignored the problems. They let these companies get away with what I would almost consider genocide of these small towns they destroyed. I'm sure that there are many others who will tell you this Is exactly what happened to these once thriving and prospering towns. These mills knew they were dumping chemicals in the rivers and they used these humble people and then made them poor by enriching themselves! Cooperate greed is why these companies moved to China and other cheap labor countries. It's why small towns across the country are now boarded up. Corporations got greedy and instead of paying these people and thriving here in America, they left them behind and moved out of the USA!
The film is a great piece of 70s industrial greed that happened to many other small towns that they moved into, worked the people hard and then got out of town and left environmental damage that is still not getting cleaned up! I have a copy on VHS and I have watched it maybe twice since my mother passed away. We don't have a VHS hooked up now, but I have this movie in a protective box and put up where it will be with me forever. It reminds me of how hard my mother worked to keep myself and two older siblings from her first husband feed, clothed, and made a house payment. It's very hard for me to watch as it brings back the memories of when the town had parades and there was even a Belk's Department Store in the downtown area, right near where the Mill my mother and father both worked at. It's now been demolished, but the damage is still done and it should fall on the state to clean up this area! It might not be an actual documentary, but it's pretty damn close!
Love & Other Drugs (2010)
Accurate Portrayal of a Pharmaceutical Representative!
This is a much better and deeper movie than you get from the trailers. First it has Jake Gyllenhaal and the incredible and extremely talented Anne Hathaway as the main characters. They have great onscreen chemistry and must like working with each other. She played his wife in the break out film, "Brokeback Mountain" and did an excellent job with the part. The plot is a lot deeper than it seems from the trailers. It's definitely a movie worth the time to watch. This movie starts out as an interesting look at the Pharmaceutical Representative business and it's pretty wild. My sister graduated from college and she worked as one for almost four years until she was able to afford to get her degree in Veterinary Medicine. She has similar stories about crazy parties and getting trips to Cabo and other places if she nabbed the right Dr or surpassed her sales goals. So Gyllenhaal's part isn't that much of a departure than what real Drug Reps we're getting away with back then. Then he meets Maggie and Jamie, Gyllenhaal's character fall deeply in love with Maggie despite her lack of wanting to be in a commented relationship. He eventually finds out that she has the early stages of Parkinson's Disease. In my opinion, one of the saddest scenes in this film is that Maggie has been helping Senior Citizens go across the border into Canda to buy their medications cheaper. Senior Citizens are still having trouble now in 2021 with affording their medications and some are skipping doses and using less of some medications as they can't afford them! It's just unbelievable that this is the America we live in almost 30 years after this movies time frame was suppose to be reflected by. I'm not going to give away the ending as it should be watched and maybe people will see that Love is more powerful than any Drug!
My sister was the actual reason I saw this movie in the first place. Back before the government started cracking down on the incentives Big Pharma would offered to these Drug Reps she would get trips to tropical destinations and huge bonuses if she could persuade a Dr or Hospital to use the medication she was sponsoring. She was fresh out of college and a friend of hers got her into this field. She traveled extensively and made a bunch of money. Now she is a Veterinarian and she has to deal with similar issues in veterinary medicine with Drug Reps. She sometimes calls to tell me when one comes in and they want to try and sell her on dog and cat psychological medications! Yes dogs and cats have anxiety problems. She is more interested in how much the business has also changed. She was young and really cute, hence the main reason she was hired. Now it's mostly middle aged men who are trying to get these contracts.
Longmire: Goodbye Is Always Implied (2017)
Everyone Who Was Paying Attention Knew Vic And Walt Would End Up Together!
I do not get why people think that the fact that this incredible series ended with Vic and Walt together? It was obvious that she had feelings for him from the first few episodes. It is a great show and sadly it should have been a few more seasons long. I admit that I have problems with people that think that the relationship between Vic and Walt is not possible. Love is love people and it does not constitute Daddy Issues or should it be viewed as icky or some physiological issue. To some of us age is just a number. I meet my husband when I was 30yrs old and he was 60! Twice my age and it was something that I was not exactly looking for as I have always been attracted to older men. I initially was looking for an older man in the 45 to 50 age bracket. A lot of this was that most people my age were immature and they were still acting like they were in their early 20s! We talked for months and finally met in person in New Orleans and I for me it was love at first sight in love. He was the one who was worried about the age difference. He did not actually think I was even going to show up in New Orleans. I would not give up the 22yrs we have had in a serious and monogamous relationship for anything. I could not have found a more honest and faithful life partner and we finally got married in 2016. I hit the big 50 last year and he hit 80. He does not look like he is that old. This past year while in self quarantine has brought us closer together and we have never had a fight in the time we have been together. Not many people can say that about their relationship. We talk out issues and we do not get mad or raise our voices. It is not a control issue or anything else except LOVE!
I knew that the time we would have together was going to be short but we are still together and I am taking care of him and will always be there to do so! I have no doubt that he will probably out live me as I have had some sports injuries that are affecting me more every day. We have traveled extensively and have done more together than I probably would have never been able to do if I was in a relationship with someone who is closer to my own age. I owned my own business and made a lot of money on my own so it was not about money or gifts, but the chemistry between us was very apparent and it has grown much stronger with time. Now he feels extremely lucky to have me as well as I feel to have him. I probably will never meet anyone else who I can trust to be faithful. He is the love of my life and I am his!
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: True Believer (2021)
As Much As I Like This Show, Could It Be Time To Go Out With Dignity?
I think this show has officially "jumped the shark" with this episode. I just don't think it's the same show that it was in its earlier years. Too many of the fan favorites are now gone or have quit. Mark Harmon looked 40yrs old when this show started and now he looks 75yrs old. I don't have an issue with that but if he leaves the show, I don't think it will survive.
This series has been on for 18 seasons. That's a very long time for a show that has lost some of it's best characters along the way and still can hold the top spot for viewership. I grew up in Norfolk, VA. The worlds largest Navy Base is there which is often referenced in the show, so it has always held a special place in my heart as I was surrounded by everything Navy while I was growing up there. It might be because this Pandemic has limited the number of writers and filming locations which has hurt several really great shows. I hope that's the case. Now that I live in Texas, this show is like a small slice of my past life in Norfolk and I would definitely miss it if it was to be canceled. I never served, but I have and always will be grateful to the Veterans that have risked their lives for our Freedom!
While in pandemic lockdown, we've binged watched the entire series of "Criminal Minds" and we have noticed that when you watch a show like this without commercials and a week between episodes, you start to see a repeat in patterns and ideas that are very similar but just altered enough that you would not normally notice it unless you watch 10 or 12 episodes a day. I read here on IMDB that Criminal Minds is going to have another season where the case is spread out over a whole season of 10 episodes. So we're looking forward to that happening.
15 Years (2019)
Well Made Film With Complex Story Line.
This is a very well made film and it was really a good film for the LGBT community. Most LGBT films have a tendency to just end as if they ran out of money and you are left without any answers at the end. It just ends leaving unanswered questions. Too often gay cinema has done this and I look at my husband and he has that "What happened?" look on his face. They also tend to look low budget and the acting is often less than stellar. This film is the exception!
I thought the characters were spot on. The female photographer and actress is very beautiful. The main Character and his partner appear to be extremely happy and they have been together for 15yrs, hence the title. My only complaint was that the time span was hard to figure out when they initially separated and there should have been more of a lead up to why this couple of 15yrs decided to just throw those years away. It seems as if they are very happy and have been for years, then after the tense dinner party situation, they split up. It's like their has never been any real communication between them and they have just been living together as partners. The English Captions are also very fast so you have to sort of skim them to keep up. It shows how open relationships are not always the best option for some people. Speaking as a person who's been in a monogamous relationship 20yrs now, I do not think I could be in an open relationship and be happy. I think they work for some couples but not everyone is wired for this kind of relationship. The older and more dominant partner seems to have psychological issues with loosing his mother. Issues that he should seek out professional help to get under control. I can relate to his experience as I lost my mother who was my best friend as well in 2004. I still have not gotten over my loss and probably never will. However I do not have anger issues that are portrayed in this film. I basically have one sister left and that's it! It's scary to think about loosing my now husband as he is my only family. I have friends that I can count on for support but I hate being alone. I have had separation anxiety all of my life. I know that I would never find a person as trustworthy, loving, and kind as my now husband. He is also older than myself and I can see that my worst fear of being alone will probably be my eventual reality. But this is a review, not a psychological analysis of my personal life!
There are many unanswered questions here as another review mentions. Who was the old man in the end? Was that the main character seeing himself and how he thinks his life alone will become in the future? I also think that if you have been in a 15yr relationship with another person that you would have already talked about adopting children. The couple are in their 40s and you would think that the possibility of children would have come up at some point in the 15 years that they have been in a relationship. This is generally the kinds of questions that are discussed as your relationship starts to become serios enough to move in with each other. The main couple this film centers around seems to go from appearing to be very settled down and doing well together to unhappy and separated within a few minutes. After some friends who have adopted children bring up the subject at the dinner party. It's like dominant male character in the main couple becomes extremely manic at the mention of children.
Also, the only way I could tell that time was lapsing was because the main female role who was pregnant started showing. So she tells her friend, the dominant male character that she's 4 months pregnant at the uncomfortable dinner party. I guess I missed something as I thought the party was to celebrate her successful photo exhibition, she initially said she was 4 weeks pregnant. Is it suppose to be some time period in this area before the dinner party? The lapse in time of the main relationship is hard to follow as well. It took me a few minutes to figure out that the main male character had been separated from his partner for four months or so. I was also confused after the main male character apparently creates an online profile and he is choking the person who responds. Was that the younger man who initiated this or the dominant male character? The main male character is kind of a jerk, so I'm wondering if he's always been like this or did something set him off and create the person he has become? I can not imagine living or dating anyone who is terribly moody and lacks any communication skills. Communication is exactly why my husband and myself have never once had a fight or even yelled at one another.
The one thing that I can say about this film is that at the end it didn't just stop and the credits start rolling leaving the watcher wondering what happened. You get the impression that the dominant male partner in this relationship is not coming back as he sneaks out and leaves his key in a bowl by the door. You get an answer about there relationship and that it's obviously over! I actually enjoyed this film and it is well worth the time. Not a lot of nudity, but the film had se real opportunities to have some, but nudity isn't necessarily required to make a LGBT film interesting and a good movie. The film was very well shot and produced in a professional fashion. It doesn't look low budget as a lot of LGBT films generally do and it seems like it's filmed in High Definition.
American Horror Story (2011)
Not My Favorite Season Of AHS!
We've watched all of the AHS series and this one is not my favorite of the series so far. It's kind of ironic that I didn't care for this season as I grew up in the 80's! I know that all of the AHS seasons are suppose to have some sort of connection with each other, but this season seems like the oddball season out of all of the previous seasons of AHS. It's probably has the most violence and blood and gore than any of the other seasons. It's not an issue for either of us as we have watched a lot of Horror films. I think it's funny that Billy Idol is suppose to be the Devil and Kajagoogoo where murdered in this series, but I think it's kind of silly as well. I also find it amusing that the ticket price for the proposed music festival were $1,000 in the late 80's. I can't remember paying more than about $35.00 to see any band. We got a pair of VIP tickets to see The Who in Houston in like 2016 for $600. Concerts where extremely cheap in the 80's compared to now.
I absolutely love the music that was used in this season. I still listen to many of these albums now. Growing up in the 80's was the absolute best decade to be a teenager or young adult. The music was incredible, things seemed easier without the Internet and we got to see the world evolve in a futuristic way that other generations hadn't seen. Gen-Xers had the coolest stuff. Pinball machines, Arcades, the invention of the CD, Cable TV, and the VCR. We were not couch potatoes who stayed inside playing video games all day long on computers or so protected by our parents that we couldn't do stuff that parents in this day and age would refuse to let their teens do now. We we're also known as "Latchkey Kids" as both parents generally worked as all of this cool stuff was expensive. Our first VCR was like $1,000. We seemed to have had more freedom to grow up and learn on our own about the world.. Skateboarding was the coolest new sport. Riding your bike with a Walkman allowed for music without the need to stay indoors. The 80's was the greatest time to be a teenager.
I guess the real reason why we disliked this season more than the previous seasons is it seems to be extremely convoluted. A few other seasons of AHS have been kind of hard to follow as well, but none have been as hard to follow than this season. If you don't pay attention, you will get lost in what is going on in this installment of AHS. We tried to watched this when it aired originally and we missed a couple of episodes. We felt so lost that we just stopped watching it the first time it aired. It wasn't until we recently binged watched this on our streaming device that we figured out the storyline. I don't remember any of the other AHS seasons being as disjointed as this season. It reminds me very much of "Friday The 13th" because of the camp setting and that was a very rememberable movie for us Gen-Xers. Unfortunately as expected, you will not get to see Billy Idol or any of the other great 80's bands that where supposed to be at the final festival.
Bonobo (2014)
Was This Movie About Horny Monkeys?
What can you do with a movie the title of which is defined as sexually active monkeys? Surprise! I have always been a big fan of Granchester - the original rather than the later. To find James Norton and Tessa Peake-Jones was a delight. Both played such goody-goodies on Granchester, I was astonished by their roles in this film - then delighted. Picture James Norton in his Granchester role and then watch him do nude hand-stands out in the yard in front of Mrs Peake-Jones. You only see him from the back and from the waist up, but how funny is that? Then to watch him put the make on anyone handy was just too funny! He gets thrown out of the commune for being such a horn-dog!
I really had no idea of what to expect with this movie, which opens with a bunch of people running around the yard fully naked and I thought what the hell! I gave the movie 4 stars just for the shock value of James Norton and Mrs. Peake-Jones. I hope they both got paid a lot to do this movie! Overall, the movie is lacking in quality, both in story and actors. I don't think it's even a "B" level quality. But, if you start out knowing what's in store, then how can you go wrong with a bunch of naked folks? This was all worth it just for the "exposure" of James Norton and the reaction of Mrs. Peake-Jones. Just watch her eyes go up and down when Norton is supposed to be standing naked in front of her. Just too funny!
I'll have different thoughts when I watch the first Granchesters from now on!
God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness (2018)
Less About Propaganda Than The Other Two Movies!!
All I'm going to say is that it seems that the people who praised the first two installments, gave it 8 and 10 star ratings and seem to be the most critical of this installment are the ones who disliked this one the most of the three! That's pretty telling about the state of the country we live in now! I think people are absolutely fed up with this Administration and how much damage a Businessman who says God sent him to fix the country, yet we're in a pandemic that was avoidable and he's the most corrupt person ever to be President is now showing his own hatred! He has destroyed everything in his path and broken any laws he wishes to get his way! No man is above the law! The only reason why I even watched this installment of this series was because we had family members who we're visiting and they saw this and wanted to see it! Based on the second installment, I clinched my teeth and endured this one!
It's the most tolerable of the series, but that's not saying much either! Hearing the Aunt who I loved as a child chastise this movie and say that it wasn't as good as the previous ones was absolutely heartbreaking! It's gotten to where I can not even talk to my Right Wing Friends or relatives now! It's truly a shame as they have never had any issue with my husband and the fact I am gay and We're now married, but they seemed very cold to him this visit and it's actually his house! It's ours now, but he was the one who helped us get the money to pay for it and was the one who manipulated the mortgage that has allowed us to pay it off! I briefly spoke to them when they left, but haven't heard from them since then!
Junked (1999)
I Guess Actors Have To Start Somewhere!
I actually bought this movie and like the only other reviewer, I'm in total agreement with him on this movie. It's not even worth the money to rent this on a streaming service. We have always been fans of Thomas Jane, but this must have been a movie that he took just to get the work. It's really early in his career and I should have expected that this wasn't going to be a stellar performance.
I purchased this sometime in the earlier 2000's and paid quite a lot for this movie. We rarely buy movies know on physical media like Blu-Ray , or DVD if it never made it to Blu-Ray which I don't think this movie did. If we buy a movie now, it's generally the 4K format version of the movie. We have 4K streaming and the proper equipment as well as the bandwidth to handle it, but it is not as stunning as when played from a physical disk through our incredible Oppo- UDP205 multi format player.
This is not worth the time or not money, unless you just have run out of stuff to watch while stuck inside because of COVID-19! Even if your a huge Thomas Jane fan, you will be disappointed with this movie.
Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
You'll Either Love This Or Hate It!
I personally think this movie is hilarious. It's typical Tom Greene comedy and it's one of those films you will either love or hate. Some people might find the gags and other comedy a bit too crude, but it's what makes this movie a complete laugh fest. I guess I just relate to this film as I was a skateboarder and I eventually got a job that turned into a career as well. It's a Gen-X movie and the Soundtrack is absolutely great. I haven't seen this movie in a long time and I might not find it as funny now as I did originally, but if you like toilet humor, you will probably get a few laughs out of this film.
The cast is also a great mix of people from other movies that are classic comedies like Julie Hagerty, from the "Airplane" movie franchise, as well the hilarious Drew Barrymore. It's not for everyone, but if you can get a chance to see this movie, I would recommend deciding for yourself, " Do you Love it or Do you Hate it!"
The Ridiculous 6 (2015)
One Of Those Movies You Must Have A Sense Of Humor To Enjoy!
I am not going to give any spoilers away in this review. It is just a funny movie unless you are a Politically Correct type of person. I am not a huge fan of Adam Sandler and a couple of other actors in this movie however after I got into this movie I was laughing so hard I felt intoxicated. It is full of stereotypes that are now inappropriate for the masses and it just shows how much our attitudes have been changed for the worse as we have become too sensitive about EVERYTHING!
We have watched this six or seven times and it never seems to get old. I think it is a terrible environment we are currently living in with everyone being offended by stereotypes. If you cannot laugh at yourself you should not laugh at others and probably should not watch this movie. One reviewer compares this to Western Saddles which is an incredible Iconic Movie that is far worse As far a stereotypes and words that are considered far more inappropriate than this film. It has similar satire but Western Saddles is a classic movie that you might have a hard time watching in our modern day overly sensitive world. Luckily we have a couple of copies of Western Saddles.
I agree that there is nothing funny about slavery or slurs towards other nationalities that are depicted in this film. As a gay man I hear this kind of crap all the time and people find it hilarious. Does it bother me? Absolutely not. I am generally laughing just as hard as others are. We need to treat each other like equals but there is no reason why we cannot laugh at our own selves as we all have a sense of humor and we should not forget the plight of others but we should not have to be so sensitive about everything that is not politically correct either! I guess what I am trying to say is that we should be past the hatred of others who are different and come from different countries as we are all basically the same. Human beings. Just because we laugh at things that might be considered inappropriate for some should not be taken so seriously. We mostly have progressed from that terrible period in time and if we let it hold us back we will never get any further in our short lives or have equality for all. I think being a comic or a comedian is probably the hardest job that anyone in the entertainment industry could pursue.
Holding the Man (2015)
Very Well Written And Quite Emotional!
SPOILERS. DO NOT READ UNTIL YOU WATCH THE MOVIE FIRST!
This is a great coming of age movie that my husband and myself watched and both felt extremely grateful to have each other in a monogamous relationship. I don't know if we would have been able to celebrate 21yrs together if we hadn't been looking for a long term relationship with another person. It's almost exactly like life was like during the early years of the AIDS epidemic. It's just a story that you want to stop watching, however you can't stop watching. I have always been critical of most gay genre films as they seem to either run out of money or they end without a proper explanation of what just happened. It's very common for a good film to just end and leave the viewer thinking," what the hell just happened?"
This isn't one of those films. It is extremely hard to watch and it leaves most people, well at least my husband and myself , feeling very depressed about what we just watched! It's what makes this movie so well made. It tells the story of a couple who meet at college and they become more than just friends, one of them gets the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Sydney and work in his dream job in theatre. While one is off having a life changing career, the other is waiting back home for his lover and partner to return. It's set in the early years of the AIDS epidemic and the partner who peruses his career also peruses his sexual desires and is infected by the devastating epidemic. He then unknowingly brings it back home to his partner, who seems to have a quicker reaction to the virus as he ends up in the hospital and very sick much faster than his partner who infects him while being promiscuous in Sydney. Now, both are infected with the virus and the parents of the son who stayed at home while his partner was pursuing his career, become very defensive of their son. They try to stop him from receiving visits from the lover whom infected him and it gets worse with each passing day. It's just like the real way people acted during the time of the epidemic. It's quite an accurate depiction of how many people responded when this terrible virus was first starting to show up in many hospitals. Everything finally comes to a point where the son dies first and it's not going to be much longer before the partner himself will die. He starts getting Symptoms that lead you to know he doesn't have much time left himself. We watched this film because of a friend who recommended it to us, but we had no idea how it would end. It was rather disturbing as we both felt lucky to be alive and to have lived through this time period where people were dying all over the country. It's not just a gay disease now in the modern world, it's everyone's disease. It's a disease that is now treatable, for most people, however there are options now that didn't exist in the period of this movie. This was a death sentence when this film is suppose to take place.
This is a great movie, but it's hard to watch, the music is incredible and it's from my time period, but its a heartbreaking experience and it left both my husband and myself feel very depressed as we watched this and we both thought to ourselves, that could have been one of us. It's why we both we're looking for a monogamous relationship when we found each other. We've both been tested and we've been together for 21yrs. It's just unbelievable that 21yrs has passed by in the blink of an eye. It just proves how short and precious life is , especially when you share it with the love of your life.
I think it's a movie every gay man should watch and if you lived during the time period of this film, you should be extremely thankful that you didn't catch this terrible virus before they had medication to make life better if you did get this terrible virus. Even with the new medications they have to fight this virus, not everyone can handle the side effects that they cause , so safe sex should still be practiced!
Those People (2015)
Based On The Mini Series "Brideshead Revisited", Not Nearly As Good!
This is a modern and much shorter version of the highly acclaimed series "Brideshead Revisited" which aired on PBS and it's definitely doesn't live up to the mini series from 1983. I will always remember watching Brideshead Revisited on our local PBS as it answered a lot of questions that I had been trying to figure out about my own sexuality. I was 13yrs old and I knew something about me was different about me and my feelings about other men from around the the age of 7yrs old, I just couldn't put my finger on exactly what or why I felt so different than my peers. I had pondered that I was gay as I had several crushes on a few of the male teachers and oddly the fathers of many of my friends. I was never touched by any of them or anything like that, but I preferred their company and being around them over the females in my life. Brideshead reassured me of exactly what I had thought was going on with my sexuality and it was something that I would have to deal with until I was about 30yrs old. This movie is similar to the Mini Series , but it's crammed into less than two hours rather than several episodes. It's modern day, where as Brideshead was a period piece, but it's not anything like the original. It's worth watching , but at 45 or so when we watched this, I found it to be a very childish idea of what a true relationship with someone else is really like. I'm not going to give away any spoilers here, but again, it's worth a look and I've spent more time watching other gay genre movies that where a complete waste of time.
The mini series and this movie are both based off the same book that I think has the same title as the movie version. The Mini Series, " Brideshead Revisited " aired during the beginning of the AIDs epidemic and I was absolutely terrified of acting on my desires until I had graduated from High School. It was a new disease with no one really knowing anything much about it and what they taught us in High School was completely wrong. I look back at my 20s now and wish I had come out to everyone I knew at the time. I wasted a whole lot of time playing the part of another person. It gets hard trying to live two different lives and it is just exhausting. When I came out, it was not a surprise for anyone that I knew anyway. So I wasn't fooling anyone but myself. I had very few sexual relationships in my 20s and I was always very safe about them.
I lived with my first "real" partner from age 25 until we separated in the beginning of 2000. He was a very kind person, very faithful, and we shared a loft in Norfolk VA for 5yrs. I borrowed the money to pay for my half of the $300,000 loft from my mother. He was a retired Navy Seal. I met him through work as after he retired from the Navy, he became an accounting manager for one of the architects and home builders that I was doing residential electrical wiring for. I had heard that he was gay and I just couldn't believe it was true. We happened to be in a upscale hotel bar and he came over and realized who I was. It was a known bar for men who were gay at the time. It was very quiet and not like most gay bars. After we talked for three hours or so, we both realized that we had a lot in common. We rarely ever talked at work, but after we met in a public situation, he was completely a different person. He was still closeted as was I , and he said he was shocked to see me in the bar. We we're a very monogamous couple and it was an incredible experience. It was my first real adult relationship. He was 20yrs my senior. I didn't think much of it. However, he had been secretly worried about the age difference. He finally decided to have a heartbreaking talk with me about what he had been worried about. He admitted he was scared that as we grew older, I would resentment him for our age difference, and because I was so set on monogamy, I would feel trapped in a relationship that I didn't want to be in any longer. I told him he was wrong and that age wasn't something I had even considered, that it was part of what I loved about him. He still thought that it was unfair to me to watch him grow older as time passed on. He said I shouldn't have to be his nurse or care for him when I was 50 and still young enough to do things he could no longer do. He wasn't seeing anyone else or anything like that, he was sincere about his feelings and he actually cried about it more than myself. He became depressed after I moved in with my mother and he quit working for the home builder where I first meet him. I worried about him for a long time and he finally got better. It was devastating for me as well, but I had finally realized that I could have a life with someone else now and I wasn't afraid to try and find him. The real irony with this is that I gave up owning my own company, my life in Norfolk and moved to Texas in December of the same year. The one thing about this time with him that helped me tremendously was that we sold the Loft for $560,000 and we both made a huge profit on our investment. We sold it just in time as well because the City of Norfolk decided to permanently dock a Navy Ship in what would have been our view of the city and waterfront. I'm sure the price of the Loft was impacted but it's probably a million dollar property now.
I had met someone in New Orleans that was actually 25yrs my senior in late June of 2000. After several plane trips back and forth, we decided to take the plunge and see what life dealt us. For some reason, I have just always had an attraction to older men. I finally turned 50 this year and I'm still in touch with my Navy Seal, he's a good friend and I know he is there for me if I needed him. He has found someone who's 2yrs older than he is know. I'm extremely happy for him and his partner. They met around the same time I met my husband. He is a good friend and we still talk to each other regularly to this day. My husband was also an Auditor for the Army. It's really funny how life works out. My Navy Seal has often said that he now wishes he had never let me get away. It's something that I think he's kidding about, but I still love him, I always will. It's just that I'm not in love with him anymore. My now husband of 21yrs has no problems with me talking with him and he's actually invited them both to visit us here in Texas. He doesn't have a jealous bone in his body, that's me. My husband is just as honest, loving, and faithful as a person can be. He is and will always be the love of my life, even if I outlive him and meet someone else, he has been my best friend, my husband , and my rock! We have been in a completely monogamous relationship for the entire time we have been together. We've never had a fight about anything or yelled at each other since we've been together. We communicate very well and he says I have an "old soul." We we're both looking for a soulmate and we found each other in a sea of so many fish. We officially got married in 2016 as an extra layer of protection in case something happened to one of us. We also worried that the current administration might try and void our marriage rights. We we're as married as we thought we would ever be when we had a lawyer draw up our wills and power of attorney for each other. But we made it official and I never thought that would be possible.
This shortened version in movie format is a pretty good film, but watching it now as an adult shows how immature the relationships in both the movie version and even the mini series Brideshead truly is know that I'm more mature and lived a full life. Even having experienced two incredible relationships, one short and one two decades, with two incredible people, Brideshead Revisited will always have a special place in my heart. At 13yrs old, it seemed so great. However, watching it know, it seems kind of silly. I got my now husband of 21yrs to watch Brideshead Revisited and he barely got through the whole series. After I explained why it was special to me, and how it made me realize that I was a gay child, he also found a soft spot for Brideshead Revisited in his own heart.
It's just unbelievable that PBS showed "Brideshead Revisited " in 1983 on a television show. I absolutely love PBS and it's funny that my mother was always trying to get me to watch PBS more as a child. She never saw any of the Masterpiece Theater shows and I guess she thought PBS only showed stuff like Sesame Street. PBS is quite ground breaking as shows like "Tales From The City" aired on it as well as other provocative and outstanding programming.
Bloodline: Part 1 (2015)
Great Show And Cast, But Could Have Been A Better If Not Strung Out!
I will not go into to detail about this series as I don't want to spoil the plot! It's a very well made series , but it's drags on and on for far too long! There are several intences where this could and should have ended , but it strings the watcher along for what seems like forever and it doesn't need to!
I like the cast as well as the plot, but there were times while watching this that I felt it was getting ready to finally come to a conclusion. However the directors kept adding unnecessary subplots and crazy twist that were not needed in order to make this an enjoyable series. I fell for the series hook, line, and sinker! There were some episodes that just didn't need to be part of the overall storyline. I almost stopped watching this several times as it was getting monotonous and just flat out boring. Just wait until Season 3, Episode 32, it's a good thing there was only one episode left as I would have stopped wasting my time watching the show!
I have to say that it's a well written show, great cast members and a very lifelike plot, it's worth a look and I would recommend this to anyone who is patient enough to endure the 33 Episodes ! I just don't see me watching this again , as once was enough! I would have rated this much higher if it had been a few Episodes less!
