I went in with very high hopes about this remake of 'Nosferatu' but when it ended I felt kind of flat about it. The best way to express my thoughts is to list what I thought was good and not so good.
GOOD The cinematography is excellent and the soundtrack is good too. The atmosphere is very depressing in the castle and this felt right. The build up was quite good too.
NOT GOOD There is no doubt that the movie is overlong by at least 20 minutes and there were times when it's just plain boring as hell. The acting and some of the scenes are hammy in places, almost parody I thought. One of the biggest gripes is Count Orlok. The accent is ridiculous and he just isn't scary enough. He just looked like a large version of Fagin from Oliver Twist to me and don't get me started about his moustache! It was an extremely disappointing representation of Orlok especially when compared to the Max Shrek version.
I feel this movie has been overhyped and will continue to be. It does have some fine scenes especially when set amongst the snow but overall this was a bit of a let down.

This started off quite well but gradually disappeared up it's own backside. A child goes missing which is of course a dreadful event so what do the writer's do? Introduce a Muppet reject to interact with Vincent played well by Benedict Cumberbatch. Yes, it is supposed to be his conscience but it looks ridiculous.
The acting is fine but there is one very funny piece of overacting by Gabby Hoffmann as Cassie when a telephone wakes her up. I actually laughed at this point. I started to lose interest as the story dragged on and then we reached the last episode. Where to start with this. It is so saccharine that I almost threw up. Seriously, it really is hilariously bad and I couldn't believe what I was watching. YUK! So 'Eric' started with promise but descended into sentimental trash.

I had high hopes for Lou having read the preview and it started off OK for the first 25 minutes or so. It then went downhill quickly and I was ready for the end of the movie well before it's designated run time. Allison Janney is OK as Lou. She is miserable, obviously with a dark past and she does look like she could handle herself. I expected more from her character though and it would have been better if it showed flashbacks of her previous life. For some reason I found Jurnee Smollett to be very annoying and it would have been better to have Lou go solo. Parts of this movie are ridiculous and it does run out of steam well before the end.
