There's really no point in watching this since it does not improve or bring something interesting compared to the original movie.
We all know they make musicals out of everything, books, movies etc. But they are always distinct enough that sometimes you are in the mood for one or the other.
For example, Wicked is based on the Wizard of Oz but it is a completely different experience. This movie just feels like a lesser version of the original with music thrown in.
Same lines though delivered not nearly as good. The music was ok, but I wasn't crazy about most of the songs, though Regina had the best songs by far.
I think my favorite scene was ''Someone gets hurt'', I really liked it, I loved the lighting and the effects, I think it worked really well. That scene and ''world burn'' were the highlights for me. Regina's voice was also the best.
And there were other things that I enjoyed that sadly went nowhere. For example, the only song that Gretchen sings which is when she is in the closet was pretty nice, I actually loved it and it showed a very personal side of her, but the movie ends and we don't learn much from Gretchen after that scene.
I read that 14 songs from the musical were cut and a reprise of that song where among those cut, and it shows.
It's fine to watch this movie out of curiosity but I don't think you'll ever be in the mood to watch mean girls the musical when you can just watch the original. After finishing this, all I felt was a big desire to watch the 2004 movie again.

I have been on a movie musical bender for a while. I came across this one when looking up ''worst movie musical adaptation'' and this one was mentioned by a lot of people as being the worst. It also had Michael Douglas in it so I was sold.
I almost can't believe what I just watched. It's one note the entire time, there's no intrigue, the entire movie takes place on a stage, it was all very very lame.
You don't care about any character, and the music just wasn't exciting. I actually knew two songs from this musical that I had no idea were from this musical. ''At the Ballet'' and ''What I did for love''.
But I think it's not the music itself but the renditions because I knew '' What I did for love'' because of glee, and I absolutely loved that version, but in here it was so bad.
However, I quite enjoyed the ''Nothing'' song and the performance, and the ''tits and ass'' song is pretty catchy and I have it stuck in my head now.
The dancing was pretty amazing though. And the ending scene was visually pretty. I have no idea what the musical on stage could be like, but this was pretty bad.
Some scenes are enjoyable, but this is a 2 hour movie that feels like it could be 1 hour long.

I cant remember the last time I was THIS obsessed with a movie. I watched it for the first time on December 31st and I have already seen it twice and have heard some of the songs dozens of times.
It has me, just like Christine, in some sort of spell. The music is PHENOMENAL. I already knew the Title song and the Music of the night which I loved, and the rest of the songs were wonderful as well. I loved all of the lyrics. They were simple yet poetic and beautiful without ever being pretentious or preachy.
I just loved the theme of Music itself. The Angel of Music, paying homage to Music, I absolutely loved that.
The settings were gorgeous. The camera movements were amazing. It had so many beautiful and brilliant shots. I particularly love the shot after she comes through the mirror, and as soon as she touches the Phantom's hand, the song "The Phantom of the Opera" begins, brilliant. You just dont get that on a stage production.
I am so obsessed with that whole sequence of the Phantom guiding Christine to his lair with his torch. So so amazing.
The scene at the cemetery was incredibly beautiful as well. The visuals are just top-notch. This is CINEMA.
The acting from everyone was also fantastic. Gerard Butler sold the hell out of that role. I love his voice because it is very unconventional for a musical. But the phantom is an unconventional character, so I think Gerard's voice makes a beautiful contrast with the rest of the cast. Just think, Patrick Wilson's voice wouldn't work as the Phantom and Gerard's voice wouldn't work as Raoul. Gerard's voice has a dark, melancholic quality that I think works wonderfully for the character. And I also firmly believe that the Phantom is an acting first, singing second role. People don't really watch this musical to hear the Phantom belt out.
And, I don't understand the ridiculous hate for Emmy Rossum. She was wonderful, her voice too. Love her rendition of Think of me and Wishing you were somehow here again. People want to pretend she sounds like any girl from a high school choir, that she is just one of millions who sound the same. Absolutely not. That level of talent at such a young age is not something you easily find. There is a genuineness about her that you can feel through the screen. She also has the kindest of eyes. I have no doubt the director saw this in her and that's why she was ultimately chosen.
I am just so glad I finally watched this. I can't believe I had never seen it. I had originally given it a 9 because there were some minor things I would have changed, like I noticed some lipsync and editing issues, but I just loved this so much I cant give it less than a 10.
