WOW, I don't know what I've missed but man am I surprised by all the praises this show is getting. The writing is just generic Taylor Sheridan writing. Characters say too much to make us think this is intellectual. I've love Sheridan's stuff like early Yellowstone, Sicario etc. But he's running out of inspiration. The family drama here is just unbearable. The dumb teen and the weird parental comments. It's just talk, talk, talk. Once in a while there's an explosion to give us the feeling that there's some action, then a blond woman shows some skin for the sexy part. Everything is calculated like it's following a template. Sheridan keeps using the same actors too and it's getting tiresome. This show is just not that good. 2 stars for the occasional good cinematography.
I loved X and Pearl and own both on bluray. I was looking forward to seeing Maxxxine but what a shame, it was such a disappointment. I can't believe it has a higher rating on here than X even though so many reviews agree that X and Pearl were so good. I don't even see how this movie relates to the first 2 even though it's supposed to be the end of the trilogy. Maxxxine just felt like a B rated movie about a killer who ends up getting caught in the end. Nothing original. I will definitely not be buying this on physical media. It just makes me appreciate the first 2 even more. I think the whole thing should have stopped at Pearl.
Nothing in this show is remotely believable. I've been a single dad being threatened to have my son taken away so I know this process. There's no way you get to see a mediator in court the day after the lawyer for the other party gives gives you a call. Wouldn't it be nice if court battles happened so fast? The main character Alex is so irritating. She resists and argues with everyone trying to help her. No wonder her ex gets so upset (I'm not condoning abuse, just understanding). This show could have been so great but it's missing style. I'm don't even think the main actress was a good choice. She tends to overreact and her blank stare with those big round eyes freak me out. Also I can't stand flashbacks in today's series. This needs to stop. It's a lazy way too tell a story. Anyway, I'm done after the second episode. Streaming services killed TV. Thankfully we have the old great series to go back to.
