This movie was totally incredible in the genre and market it aims for. The acting from Mel is just top notch. The characters are loveable and hate-able (as intended). It reminded me of a much more suspenseful Goonies at times.
This wasn't boring at all either. The plot was really clear and just delivered in a way that was reminiscent of 80's or 90's movies. I will watch this again in the future and will recommend to others.
I laughed, chuckled at some of the comedic references. I couldn't help but to think of subliminal messaging about the need for protecting today's children from "monsters." The movie was well made and will definitely get organic acclaim for years to come. I am not saying that it is an impactful masterpiece, but it is just a solid movie that could easily become someone's favorite.
I would love a sequel to this.

I am not a superhero fan, my wife is. When I went to the first Joker movie I was absolutely floored by how impactful it was. It was truly a masterpiece. Fast forward a few years and we get this self-indulgent overuse of what worked in sprinkles in part 1.
What I mean was that the scenes when the Joker was dancing and flailing were like 5 times too many in part 2. It was basically like beating a cinematic success to death. Lady Gaga and her botoxed glow and duck lips also kind of seemed a bit misplaced. There were times when Gaga and Phoenix had in screen chemistry, but they were so over presented to the audience.
One can only hope for a part 3 that redeems itself, but judging on past history of the majority of sequential films, the chances are low of that happening.
The cinematography, music (song selections) and lighting was stunning and effective, but the script just seemed disjointed and hollow. The entire film takes place in institutions. We want a Joker that is roaming free amongst society. This story robbed us of that.

I adore the plot of this movie. Why not have a comedy Christmas movie revolving around the theme of avoiding your dysfunctional families during the holidays? There are a few legendary scenes in this movie that are totally realistic and hysterical.
Basically this movie is about rejection of societal expectations and pressures around the holidays. Vince Vaughn and Reece Witherspoon have outstanding performances and their chemistry is sizzling.
I'm wondering if all of the negative reviews were expecting a traditional holiday rom com movie or something? This movie cracks me up big time. It is on my must watch December holiday movie list.
