Sugar Plum Twist (2021)
It satisfied expectations
This was a sweet film that made some important points. It pointed out the bias that many dancers face. I also loved seeing Jamie. Gray Hyder, I miss her as Kat on Law & Order SVU. I hope that Hallmark continues to create programming that will open hearts and minds even just a little with a story everyone can enjoy.
The Gymnast (2006)
Great film! Film festie favorite~We went back to see it a second time!
I truly enjoyed this film. It's rare to find a star who can pull off the physical aspects of any sports/dance themed film convincingly and do a first rate acting job as well. In this film you find two stars who rise to the occasion. Both women deliver warm, touching and at times humorous performances. The film also touched on a number of topics, from racial issues to sexual identity. And yet the approach wasn't heavy handed. The production values were also top notch for a small budget film. I saw this at the Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian film festival and went back to see it a second time. It was a real crowd pleaser. Everyone I spoke to seemed to enjoy this film.
The Midwife's Tale (1995)
Beautiful feminist love story
I loved this film. It was an understated love story that happened to feature two women and yet was appropriate for children to watch. It also had a feminist theme and a little history thrown in as well. For a low budget film the sets, costumes and cinematography were decent. The acting may be a bit broad from a few of the actors, but it is suited for a fairy tale. Highly recommended. I can't believe it didn't get more buzz from the Lesbian & Gay community. I have shown this film a number of times, especially during the holidays, for family and friends and all have simply loved it. None could believe they hadn't heard of it before.
