Foundation: Long Ago, Not Far Away (2023)
Wish I could give this a negative score
After a season more and more ridiculous each episode, this one breaks new heights. I'll be expecting the finale to be even worse.
The Empire parts are entertaining. The music and visuals are great. The plot is.. merely decent. It has absolutely nothing to do with Foundation or Asimov, and Goyer should be ashamed to pretend so.
The "Foundation" part is terrible, especially the multiple Haris, Salvor and family, the new mentalics, etc, etc. I doubt they could have done everything in that half more dumb, more boring, more pathethic.
It's clear that Goyer had a different series in mind and then they gave him Foundation. And he just went on, took some names and perpetrated a completely different series. He didn't want anything to do with Foundation, and this episode shows it.
I just with they had let him do Empire. Because that's what it is.
So 7/10 for the Empire part, -20/10 for the Foundation part. What a mess.
How I Met Your Mother: Last Forever: Part Two (2014)
Almost ten years later, still the worst finale ever
After 9 seasons, this was the real slap. From Carter and Craig to the fans. The final seasons had been kind of a joke, far away from the quality of the first 3-4, but the final season had picked up steam, The Mother was casted wonderfully, and everything was going swell towards ending the series. But no, they had to go there.
After the backlash, they complained that part of the finale had been recorded years ago and that they couldn't fix it. A fan cut the perfect finale the next day. It's still in YouTube and it's the canon one for me.
This was so bad that it surpassed even the Lost finale. These guys should never ever head another series. These guys should never again work anywhere near television. Way to destroy 9 years of work.
Foundation: In Seldon's Shadow (2023)
OMG. This is SO MUCH WORSE than the first season
And the first season was TERRIBLE!
I get it. You've got Jared Harris, and you want him to act, but this.. this is terrible. This is David S. Goyer, again, doing the exact opposite of what Foundation is.
Why spend the money just to step all over Asimov's grave? And the acting is on par now. Even Lee Pace looks like he's getting discouraged. No wonder, reading the scripts must have been a shock.
After the first season, I couldn't believe they could do much worse, but if this is the beginning I fear where we'll be in the end.
Congratulations, Mr. Goyer. You've outdone yourself. In the worst possible way.
"Based on Isaac Asimov's Foundation"? Please, change that and write "we took some names".
Succession: With Open Eyes (2023)
Bad ending
It's a pity that they couldn't make the landing, but nothing could be as good as the wedding episode.
Ken needed to jump from the top or blow his brains. Shiv needed to suffer the rest of her life for it.
At least the rest worked: they "redeemed" Rome, the old guys got their money, Hugo will keep Hugoing, Tom gets the big prize (which he deserves as the huge POS that he is), and Greg doesn't grow in the end and, once again, backs up the wrong side and doesn't even know how to defend himself.
Still, not bad for a series in which I despised every single character to make me watch till the end. Well done.
Foundation: The Leap (2021)
Bad season, worse ending
Absolute lack of logic, changes the original for the worse, bad characters, bad decisions, this would be terrible whether it was based on Foundation or Peppa Pig, the scripts are just risible.
The only thing this has going for it is that the soundtrack is fantastic.
I'm sure Goyer will be able to make it even worse in S2.
Foundation (2021)
This is just terrible
The good news:
- It looks pretty. It should, given the ton of money spent on this.
- The soundtrack is amazing.
- Lee Pace acting is amazing, in what is probably the only salvageable plot, which funnily, differs totally from the books.
- Jared Harris does a semi-decent job.
The bad news:
- Everyone else's acting is atrocious.
- Every single character is STUPID. In caps.
- *Everything* is a coincidence. Or, they tell us, everything was predicted by psychohistory, which should be exactly the opposite of what they're telling here.
- Just one confidence, or one person being just a tad less stupid, and this series disappears. There are oh so many examples. I will just mention the Huntress in the penultimate episode, as it's probably the more glaring one.
- They had an amazing plot to work with, and they totally disregarded it to change it for one way WAY worse. This series makes The Hobbit Trilogy a celebration of Tolkien. Peter Jackson thought he could write better than Tolkien. David Goyer must absolutely hate Asimov. Some of the blunders in this series REQUIRE him to know the material intimately to be able to write just the contrary.
- "Demerzel". Oh, my god. Everything there is broken. The attitude, the motivation, the "operating system". There's just no way to salvage anything there.
I could go on for 5 pages more, let's just say that this was an enormous disappointment, and that David Goyer should be ashamed of himself for sinking 450 millions and pulling this garbage out of it.
Dune the movie deserves 20 Oscars compared to this. And I'm talking about the 1984 one.
And they renewed it for a second season? What a joke. Apple should just give the money to the Ted Lasso guys. THEY earned it.
Foundation: The First Crisis (2021)
Oh, no! They managed to make it worse yet again.
Like last episode, this one wasn't going so bad (so bad: 2/10). But no, yet again, the ending was a bunch of inconsistencies, terrible writing and holes that the Invictus could easily go through. A hundred times.
I've finally figured something. The Huntress projects a field of stupidity, that's why every character around her does such incredibly silly things. How many times have other characters done absolutely illogical things that otherwise would have ended the series? The latest one, the way she got control of the ship to get down to the surface. Take those away and Foundation lasts two episodes.
I'm really curious about how they think (hah!) in the writer's room. They had amazing material here to work with, and all they've managed to get here is coincidence, religion and atrocius acting (with a couple of exceptions). Throw some millions at it to get it pretty and that's Foundation. Absolute garbage.
Oh, and to those who ask after every episode why are we still here, we've said many times: we want to see how low this goes. I'm amazed that each week to manage to go further down, since I really don't think it's possible until they show us.
If I ran Apple, the person that greenlit this, and the person who decided to give it a second season would be SO fired. I doubt that they'll make 8 seasons, but hey, I also doubted that they could be so inept, and yet here we are.
So, see you next week then for the final fireworks. If they do another episode worst than this, we should all petition IMDB to be able to give it zero stars.
Foundation: The Missing Piece (2021)
Yet another terrible episode
They were not doing that bad. I mean, it's still terrible scifi, absolute nonsense and offensive to the original material, but the last 15 minutes.. OMG, they don't know what to do with this. They just managed to sink lower, and taking into account how progressively bad the first 7 episodes were, that deserves applause.
Only see if you appreciate Lee Pace (in his entirety) or if, like me, you are only morbidly checking each week to see how bad can they get, and they keep rising up to it. Or, rather, down.
I think on how many great series could have been done with this money, and I cry. I think on how good this could have been if Goyer had been a bit more respectful of the books, and I get angry.
But it is what it is. Just abysmal.
Foundation: Mysteries and Martyrs (2021)
Once again, even worse than the previous one
Goyer keeps one-upping himself. I'm doing my best to forget that this has any relationship at all to Asimov's foundation, and what do I see?
Amazingly stupid characters doing amazingly stupid things that make absolutely no sense in the context.
Fights that a 6-year old would choreograph way better.
Acting that should put anyone getting money for it to shame.
And a plot that steals from several other IPs, while absolutely ignoring -no, contradicting- the one they paid for.
Once again, to do something this pathetic, they must be doing it on purpose. I expect them to do even worse next week.
It still sounds and looks great, though. It's a pity that everything inside is completely rotten.
Foundation: Death and the Maiden (2021)
Well, that was an impressive effort
It was difficult to write a worse episode than 5, and even more difficult to write with more disdain for Asimov, but Goyer did it. What an abysmal episode.
It would be a terrible one for any tv series, but this is way worse, since he had incredible material to work with.
I'm looking forward to see how deep this goes by the end of the season. The fact that this is SO incredibly bad has to mean that they are doing it on purpose.
I can think of so many showrunners that would have done wonders with half the money Goyer got here. And this is what he does?
What an amazing waste.
Foundation: Upon Awakening (2021)
Pathetic
Ok, so by now:
- Every character is utterly stupid, which for a place that purports to have the best and the brightest is kind of ironic.
- The Cleons, which definitely do not come from the books, are surprisingly the only thing saving this series. Thus, an episode without them has absolutely nothing to save it.
- We do not need strict adherence to the books. I watched and enjoyed I, Robot, after all. But this is Goyer butchering the source material and changing it with plots (let's call it that) that are way worse, and completely illogical to what he is selling as psychohistory.
It's sad that Apple put a ton of money into this, and we only get this pretty, superb sounding drivel. Asimov and us deserved so much more.
Médico de familia (1995)
Awful
Perhaps with this show began the big decline in quality in the Spanish TV.
Aragón is a great showman, but as an actor he simply wasn't good enough.
Bad performances (the kids were specially horrible, thank god they haven't done much since then), idiotic plots, and loads and loads of over the top moralising themes.
Never understood what people saw in it, or why everybody would speak about it endlessly the following day, since it was nothing more than a cheap copy of other, much better, series.
Avoid like the plague.
