My dad once stated that Dumb and Dumber was his favorite movie at one point. Recently, my dad came over to see the arcade room. He wanted to be over so his wife could have alone time. My dad also has dementia.
So when I found Dumb and Dumber 2 on free movies, then my dad revealing he never saw it, this would be a great father and son movie.
It wasnt. What it was could be best described as a film trying to be something it's not and tries to be what it once was and failing all at once. Was there any passion in any development? I guess you can say Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniel's was a still trying to give something out of this horrendous script, but it just felt that so much passion was lost in the writing that our main stars have to resort to potty humor to squeeze in more laughs from the kiddies.
The film follows Harry and Lloyd when they discover Harry has a kid and his friend Lloyd has the hots for her. Now the structure itself is basically the first movie and every time you turn around, theres another member berry like, "You know what the SECOND most annoying sound in the world is?" And just randomly out of nowhere they find that dog car they drove in the superior original.
My dad eventually turned to me and said I was putting him to sleep. A man with dementia would rather go home to his evil wife than sit and finish this sequel dreck? And seriously? They like twenty or so years to think of a good sequel, and they came up with this? If this was a better movie like the first one, I would have had a pleasant memory with my dad. Our parents arent around forever.

I saw this on Valentines Day with my nephew and his cousin. They liked it. I did not. I did see this movie to see Short Round return with a vengeance and to see another John Wick type movie. What I got was a movie defined as the worst between Wick and Nobody with Bob Odenkirk.
You see, what hurt this movie the most is the character of Rose. Shes the female love interest and who the bad guys are after. She drags the movie down. I guess she's trying to be a character with personality but everything comes out as forced like her relationship with Short Round.
The other actors arent good either. It was like they were told to act as if they are in a king fu movie. There wasnt much to the villain who happens to be Short Round's brother but besides his obsession with straws, this is a pretty one dimensional character.
And what's with this soundtrack? It just seems so out of place and sometimes downright annoying. It was like it was composed for a direct to dvd for kids who likes Power Rangers.
I really wanted to like this movie. The things I came for like Short Round and the action delivered but there just wasnt a good enough movie around it to recommend it.

I saw this movie twice this weekend and brought my dad on Saturday and my mom on Sunday. It's a shame this movie is getting bad word of mouth because we all enjoyed it. It was a film where I know my younger self would watch a hundred times.
The movie is about Santa being kidnapped by a Christmas Witch and his bodyguard The Rock and a bounty hunter thief played by Chris Evans set off to find him and save Christmas.
The movie just had a fun journey where it seemed like everyone had fun making it. JK Simmons as Santa Claus was a selling point for me. Not to mention some of the creature effects is some of the best I seen in years.
Not sure what people expect out of this but I was entertained and would certainly see it again. This is my 2024 Christmas flick.
