Ocean's Eleven (2001)
Fun, but be mindful of that tragic Cockney accent!
Really fun movie about a heist. Very slick, but Don's British / Cockney accent is garbage.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Don't listen to the haters!
There seems to be an awful lot of hate directed at this movie and I can see why - it's simply unlike the original "last person standing" Alien movies, whereby Ripley is there standing strong at the end.
The original movies are great, but I feel the same about the new editions, including Prometheus.
The first Alien movie had lots of unanswered questions: how did those aliens create / pilot that ship to the planet? Who created all those eggs? Why was that ship sending out a distress signal? And with Prometheus, some of these questions get answered.
There's a lot of creationism philosophy in Covenant and it also seems to focus heavily on David. However, these movies are simply expanding the Alien universe, in order to explain events that later happen.
As the new franchise continues and the time gap begins to close, the new editions will sit quite neatly in with the earlier movies.
I suppose it simply comes down to whether or not you'd prefer Ridley to churn out more movies following the same narrative as the originals, or to expand on the idea, so that future iterations can expand from a more diverse foundation.
Terminator Genisys (2015)
Pops...
With zero expectation of continuity from the initial two Terminator movies, it may perhaps deserve a 5/10. However, having gone in to see Arny in all his former glory, I was faced with "Pops"; Arny / Terminator has been adopted as the guardian of Sarah Conner, who calls him "Pops." In fact, there's absolutely no reference to him being called the Terminator; he's quite simply called pops for the entire movie, which becomes extremely tedious. Why pops? Why and how he's become this in the movie isn't explained at all. He's just there. He's just pops.
The awful script beefed up with a nonsensical idea about time travel. None of it adds up at all. You're feeling confused, and stop even bother following the main plot, due to having been disgraced by the tragic babble. The new time travel theories say goodbye to the former franchise entirely. This movie should have been called: "Pops: Genisys XXX." Watch without any hope of enjoyment. Watch for Pops.
Intouchables (2011)
A much deserving IMDb score!
I'm pretty sure I overlooked this very title many times before actually watching it; it's there in the top 250, but it doesn't seem to have the necessary enticement at first glance. I suppose I was initially deterred by the subtitles, and then the potential of this movie actually being as cliché as the main image presents. However, the film has your eyeballs glued to the screen within the first minute, regardless of how much your eyes are twitching back and forth to the subtitles.
The script, acting, photography, set design, etc; all is realistic and really without any noteworthy flaw. I was captivated from beginning to end, whilst having experienced a whole gamut of emotion, which I think is pretty difficult to come by from any film. I enjoyed this film very much! There's a really decent moral to this story, executed tastefully and in a very delicate manner. I'm quite sure there's a bit of something for everyone in this movie, regardless of whether you're in the market for a bit of grit, action (if briefly!), romance, or drama - a good 'all rounder.'
