Let me be honest, i thought it would be a dumpster fire, because of news circulating about it, and people just badmouthing it. But I am not gonna hate it for the sake of hate. So unless you are not a Tolkien purist and you liked Lord of the Rings movies, you probably are gonna love this. This has an interesting storyline, way better pacing, beautiful musical score and Cinema level visual effects. It has great characters who despite of people objection off racer baiting, offers solid performances, and most importantly it if absolutely not preachy at all. It just tells a good story and explores the lore of existing lord of the rings universe. All in all, this looks like a good series, and can't wait for next week episode.
Very often you watch something that changes your life in a meaningful way. Soul is one such movie. Not only it is entertaining, its very thought provoking. At the end of such an year, many of us are lost, filled with such negativity, either obsessing over what we lost or what we never had in the first place, Soul reminds us to be thankful for what we had all along, and to enjoy these moments while we still can. 2020 and corresponding pandemic reminded us that world can change so suddenly, and a lot of lives are over so suddenly, its is very important to live every minute of it, and cherish it.
These last dialogues from the film predicted what many critics and viewers will be faced with. Upon reading several reviews and listening to the constroversy surrounding this movie, I was somewhat skeptical that may be this movie just pushed the right hot buttons ideologically/politically, and that would be it, nothing more. But not only Joker mirrored the real life themes of mental health, poverty and elitism, but also managed to be a solid origin movie of a comic book villain. This movie neither inspires violence or glorifies incel like behavior as media is falsely suggesting, it puts the main character in the spot light from the beginning on how mentally unstable and unsettling his behavior is. I don't think this movie even sympathize with the joker to even make his rationals (if there are any) or actions justifiable, but instead it only presents a bleak picture of society where such people are ticking timebomb, and without the help they need, they are destined to have a similar (but not as theatrical as Joker's) fate. This movie is sometimes disturbing in it's plot points, and Jeaquin Phoenix's performance is crazy good and very unsettling, even in the society that is represented, but to say either this is a movie about a sane actor in an insane world or a sane character in an insane world would be injustice. This movie is about the insanity coming it terms with it, and realizing the world is just as insane. The Joke is truly on us, and only reason we are laughing because we are in constant pain just like the Joker.
