Jackpot doesn't take itself too seriously. It is just straight fun. There is a silly premise, forgettable characters and floppy jokes. But that is what this movie is advertised as so it hits the mark perfectly. For once John Cena is more than a strong doofus and has a chance to be a true nice guy. Awkwafina serves as the main protagonist and is perfect for the role. Even Machine Gun Kelly plays himself absolutely flawlessly. Go into this movie blind and be ready to just enjoy yourself for a bit. I am sure there will be sequels or even a tv series because this story lenda itself for additional story telling. T-U-R-T-L-E POWER.
This is a good slow burn movie. Going in blind is your best bet, and just strap in for the ride. It's not a comedy, so don't think you'll have any laughs. It's not a scary horror as much as it is a situational empathetic horror, like you could never imagine going through this. The interaction between characters is not really diverse, as they all are pretty cookie cutter. I also don't understand the choice to cast such ugly people. The entire ensemble is just beyond gross, and the main actor that plays the mother sounds like she eats a pack of cigarettes for breakfast every day. Just really disgusting looking people all around, and I don't know why. Aside the grotesque actors, and the flat personalities, the overall plot is new and fresh.
After finishing the movie I realized all I needed to do was read the plot outline and could have saved myself the time. How is such a cool premise fleshed out so poorly? Just a boring mesh of quasi-suspenseful moments. Some solid actors though, yet they come across bland and flat. Blech. Whatever questions you might have are NOT answered, and anything you wished was explored more is never even touched upon. Nothing fleshes out and you're left with a feeling of unsettled curiosity. The graphics are forgettable, and the scenes that show the Earth are more nondescript than if they showed a map on a wall. Overall just a waste of time. Maaaaaybe put it on in the background if you're folding laundry. Maybe.
