Seeing the comments of Winston and Good.. something or other (definately forgettable as their comments) How can a gay or lesbian family be called dysfunctional in comparison to what the heterosexual society can offer.
Lets consider - with a gay or lesbian couple a child is a choice, often a sacrifice. For a man who prefers not to be with a woman must know that it is a woman who will give birth to the child. Likewise a woman who prefers to be with a woman knows that they need a man's sperm to create the child.
No simple biological accident but a decision to bring a child into this world. A child who is wanted. Not a discard of a biological act.
There will be good loving heterosexual relationships where the child is wanted, cherished, and loved. But with a same sex relationship it is more because of the difficulties and decisions needed to create the new life.
What are the bigots afraid of. Something they have tried to sweep and hide under their darkened rug covered minds. Gay people exist, have always existed, and will always exists. We are natural as they are documented cases of homosexual animals. Gay people are born they way they are. They cannot be created, nor does it mean that the children they raise will be automatically gay.
BUT.. and this is the important part.. The Children will grow up to be accepting of gay people. And will not listen or support the bigots or the narrow minded folks who just want to spread fear.
With many cultures homosexuals are accepted at part of society with their own values and experiences to offer.
We are people. We bleed when we are cut. Weep when we are hurt, and have feelings to our loved ones and to our children just as strong and just as powerful as any other humans.
It is also interesting that one of the weapons of the bigots is to reduce someone they do not like from a person to a symbol. Symbols are easy to hate. To use as a scapegoat. To bring under the one label.
So next time you wish to discriminate against someone for their race, greed, religion, or sexuality.. Just think you would you feel in their shoes.. to be the recipient of that hate.
I am sure that so many injustice would be overturned overnight.
Just the thoughts from an older.. and hopefully wiser person.

For many years the Anderson team wowed us with many cutting edge development in the movie arts.
First there was SuperMarrionation (sic) with the Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett, Joe 90 etc. These combines with great miniature special effects gave Gerry and Sylvia many of the skills necessary to launch themselves into live action TV.
And Launch they did with UFO. Catchy sound track, futuristic special effects, story lines, and a great supporting task they stunned TV watchers with their vision of the future.
At that time 2001 a Space Oddysey was out and a lot of the set and concept ideas from there were incorporated into UFO.
Looking back there are some humorous moments (Like purple wigs and a moonbase) but hey - for that time it was visionary. Since it was only set 10 years into the future from its filming great detail was taken to make it 'advanced' but not beyond the realms of possibility.
Many of the concepts re special effects were developed further into Space 1999.
Do watch it and remember that this was a turning point in quality SciFi TV from the UK.

For its time of 1979 Space 1999 was a milestone in quality SciFi TV. Good story lines, decent special effects plus a well rounded cast kept people on their seats through out first season.
From the acclaimed team of the Andersons and Pinewood Studio they produces two seasons each being slightly different from each other.
The first year was more concerned with the SciFi aspect concentrating on the Moon and its encounters with celestial events and aliens. Martin Landau and Barbara Bain played the main characters supported by the character of Professor Bergman played by Barry Morse.
In the second year Barry left and was replaced by Catherine Schell who played the resident alien Maya. This also opened more of the romantic love interest angle (there was always a closeness between Landau and Bain but never really explored in either of the seasons) but many of the plot lines started to suffer a little from burnout..
Much of the series was sponsored by Lord Gray, however when Season 3 came up he (Gray) was caught between funding "Raise the Titanic" or "Space 1999". The rest there is history.
Space 1999 is available either as reruns on many of the cable channels or a 2 boxed DVD set of season 1 & 2.
The boxes sets are very interesting having all of the episodes. There are some additional items on each of the DVD's The DVD menu system is a little clunky but usable.
