Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
Rubbish
I have not seen the first two in the series and if this is anything to go by i'm glad I didn't. I had no clue what was going on. I had no clue what the writers were thinking when they came up with the story. Sequels are usually worse than the original but if you haven't seen the prequel to this then you would have no idea what is going on. So I suggest that you watch the other two first before this. I don't think Patrick Wilson is very good in supposedly scary films, having said that he is a very good actor. When you make a film and it's in a franchise it has to stand alone, even continuing on from the last film patrons need to get an understanding of what the film is about in case you haven't seen the other films. Disappointing to say the least and it may have been scary if i had seen the previous two films as I would know what the writers were trying to say.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Awful
I had to switch John Wick Chapter 4 off. Disappointed is an understatement. I was waiting with great enthusiasm as the previous 3 were very good in my opinion. This is a pure abomination of a movie which should have been good. I gave it 1 star for some of the choreography in the fight scenes. You can not fire so many rounds in close quarter combat and not hit the target. The action scenes are ridiculous as they are not believable. When making an action movie the makers must learn to make it believable .Rounds will not bounce off cars or glass, don't get the hero or heroine to take out too many people at once. This is boring but don't take my word for it,watch it and see for yourself. When watching movies we all look at that them on different levels .I like to be immersed in at so it has to be believable, others like lots of action that is no where near believable but they love to see lots of fight scenes and if you are one of them and like the lead to be some sort of superhuman, then it's for you. It would be interesting to see what Keanu Reeves thinks of it .
Operation Overlord (2021)
Watchable
It could have been good in fact it could have been very good but the acting wasn't, especially the actors who were playing the Germans. It lacked atmosphere in my opinion. I liked the story but the script wasn't as good as it could have been.
Action scenes were a little above average, uniforms didn't look entirely convincing. Robert Keith looked the part very much so but his German voice wasn't convincing enough for me. All together it kept me watching until the end. I gave it six stars which is slightly more than it deserved. Watch it and I'm sure you will watch it until the end. Would be interesting to see what others think of,Operation Overlord.
Chasing Bullitt (2018)
Easy to watch
The film went along at an okay pace, enough to keep you interested.Andre looked very much like Steve. It touches on his womanising with the back drop of looking for the car he drove in Bullitt.(my opinion). It showed that his love wasn't the movies but speed.I would have liked them to have shown, that he was somewhat fearless representing his country on his motorbike too in a dangerous country at the time.It showed he had a devil may care attitude to money. If I was to bet I would say first was motorbikes second was cars third was women and fourth was acting.
Rogue One (2016)
Opinions vary
Only my opinion but I couldn't get into the film.I like to be engrossed in a film that It takes me into the story.I thought it needed some brightness in the filming.I always like to get to know in depth at least one of the characters but alas I couldn't. I recognised Peter Cushing as soon as I saw him, which gave me a little more interest.Only for the fact that I was racking my brains ,trying to work out how he was resurrected after passing away many years ago.I have ticked the spoiler box for that reason but I wont tell you how it was done or the reason why.I must admit I fell asleep three quarters through the film through boredom and haven't and don't intend to watch it again.
Robin Hood (2010)
Poor acting, Ridley's worst film
My excitement soon turned to disappointment, the story had no resemblance to what has been dished up in the past and this was a load of drivel.Firstly i couldn't get to grips with Russell Crowes accent,it sounded like it had a hint of Irish but nothing that i had heard before.Danny Huston looked miscast as Richard The Lion Heart.Cate Blanchett was sour faced all the way through except for one scene where she raised a smile. The Sheriff of Nottingham was hardly seen but i suppose no one will ever play the part as good as Alan Rickman or Claude Rains but i would have liked to see a bit more banter between them.Friar Tuck was almost non existent, what on earth was Ridley Scott thinking of.I suggest that he goes away and ponders on why this film was a flop and hope he can bring the magic back in his next film like we all know he can do.I'm afraid i gave this film a thumbs down and a 1 rating i will not be buying the DVD or asking someone to buy me it for a present.Poor show Ridley.
White Christmas (1954)
Vera Ellen steals the show with her dancing
I have watched White Christmas about 100 times, the reason is Vera Ellen .I have never in the thousands of movies i have seen, witnessed a dancer of Vera Ellens ability. Vera mesmerises me every time i see the movie.Don't just take my word for it,watch White Christmas a few times and watch Vera Dance i guarantee you will never witness a dancer male or female that comes close to Veras excellence.Danny Kaye is superb Bing sings with so much ease ,with that fabulous voice.Rosemary Clooney looks gorgeous and her voice is a thrill to listen too.I shall watch White Christmas many times in the future and Vera Ellen will continue to be the star as far as i am concerned.
Ein Tag - Bericht aus einem deutschen Konzentrationslager 1939 (1965)
Harrowing, political prisoners, face terrible times in a German concentration camp
This is probably the best film i have ever seen. From the moment the film starts you can feel for the prisoners in the camp. Scantily clad political and religious prisoners so harshly treated and in what seems to be such a cold and desolate place. With just a thin prison garment and many having no shoes, with the sleet coming down almost constantly. The prisoners are constantly being beaten for trying to keep warm but wear anything under your prison garment even a newspaper and you are savagely and mercilessly beaten. Even for having a religious view one prisoner for not penancing god was hauled up on a post by his hands that were tied behind his back. Show that you are a bit frail and the guards will work you to death. As the sleet falls one prisoner dies and there is a scramble for his wooden clogs. If you ever want to see a film that is Drama of the very best then watch Tag you will never forget it and it will be etched in your mind forever.
Conspiracy (2001)
Stanley Tucci steals the film
This film is serious stuff the Nazis have a problem they want to annihilate a whole race of people.Reinhard Heydrich played by Kenneth Branagh fine actor that he is just doesn't put enough evil into his character. But Stanley Tucci as Adolph Eichmann steals the film he portrays Eichmann as the evil man he was Tucci takes his part and makes it so believable that you hate him from the moment you see him. There are great supporting actors playing their parts extremely well. Some might say that the policy for exterminating people was firmly in place before this meeting .So why hold the meeting watch it and you will see that there may be one or two people who were sympathetic to the Jewish people. What ever conclusion you come too a two hour meeting was set to change the world forever
Casablanca (1942)
Unforgettable
Casablanca is one of the finest movies ever to be screened. There are some incredible performances.Ingred Bergman as Ilsa trapped between two loves.Paul Henreid as Victor Lazlo a Resistance leader fleeing from the Nazis.Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blain always on the side of the underdog and Ilsa old flame.Dooley Wilson as Sam playing some great music.Peter Lorre plays Ugarte a loser who hopes for one big win. Claude Rains as a French policeman whose only concern is himself. Michael Curtiz the Director gets inside the characters he turns them into real people. Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939)
Most enjoyable family film
Goodbye Mr Chips is one of the most enjoyable family films you could ever watch. It has character, sincerity and strong acting performances .When you watch it have a box of hankies by your side .Robert Donat is superb well worth his Oscar Greer Garson has a small part but makes a massive impression as chips wife. The supporting cast includes some great performances notably from Paul Von Henreid.John Mills has a small part but has an impact on the film towards the end. Goodbye Mr Chips should have won more Oscars but for another incredible film released that year Gone with the Wind. The transfer from book by James Hilton to film worked incredibly well. The atmosphere of the period captivated you from the moment the film opened to the moving scenes at the end
