Borderline boring.
Bale and Cotillard do well in their part, as expected. But Depp isn't tailored for the role as Dillinger, just an ill-fit.
The music is either over the top and annoying or absent in the weirdest moments. The sound design is downright bad. Sound editing was made by an amateur film student - can't explain it otherwise. The movie is too long, it doesn't make me care about any plot line or character. When a movie fails to catch you emotionally, it failed overall.
The tone is weird, the structure of suspense is all over the place. The question remains? Who was this made for?
3.5/10.

I'll make this quick.
The directing on this one is immaculate. The colour grading, contrast and overall cinematography as a style fits the tone so we'll. It's darker and more serious than other installments. Not a simply entertaining action flick for the family.
The action is great, don't get me wrong. But the tone, continued intensity throughout and the acting is top notch. Cruise actually pulls his potential. Monaghan is crucial, since most love interests don't stick emotionally, but she's great. But of course, the absolute MVP of this movie, unsurprisingly, is Seymour-Hoffman. A freighting, downright scary performance, not to be forgotten soon. Immaculate work by him. My favourite installment of the franchise.
