It's a great Christmas film that warms the heart and doesn't leave you feeling like you've wasted your time. Although the film takes a few minutes to pick up, once the story (mostly the dramatic conflict) and the actors get going you find yourself watching a delightfully entertaining and precious film. All of the actors have great moments where it is clear that they have truly connected with their characters in an honest and believable way, there is really no moment where I thought to myself "I just don't believe him (her)." It's a film that is safe for and accessible to the entire family- a rarity in our world today. To miss out on this little gem would mean missing out on an opportunity for you and your loved one's to spend a fun and charming evening together at the cinema.
The trailer for this film is what really gets a person pumped up about it, for untrained camera work, this film is definitely far beyond many other independent films...many of the shots and angles make us forget that there was only one camera. On a whole some of the duologue and situations became a little distracting, and the relationship between Miss Glover and Mr. Holler characters seemed a little unclear...relatives? old friends? lovers?...if to be altered perhaps some more focus on this could help out...what if they were brother and sister? The acting at times seems a little forced, but it is tough subject matter to deal with and be serious about. Dawn Glover truly shines, however, with intention in even the most lackluster of lines. Every moment with her is full of believability and honesty that helps to make the story more compelling...she helps to keep the audience watching. What we have here is a young actress who can truly make a difference in the film industry and I recommend keeping an eye out for any future work by this young woman.
