The Inside Man (2019)
Best entertaiment to watch at work
I used to get one episode from this TV show every 2 weeks during my previous job and I had to watch it mandatorily as part of constant training, so I grew fond of it with time, being this show the only piece of entertaintment we were allowed to have over there. I was only able to watch the second and third seasons and, to be completely honest, I was a bit lost starting to watch mandatorily a show from the middle of it, not even season one, but it's really easy to pick it up and understand what's going on with the characters since they are not that complex, being the purpose of this show more on the educational side than being a masterful piece of a TV show, you know?
Anyway, thank you, The Inside Man, for keeping me sane in an awful and super boring job.
Clownado (2019)
Precious time of my life completely wasted
I decided to watch a movie that evidently seems not serious, just to have good laughs with my friends, but this is not the kind of movie ''it's so bad is good''. It is just completely boring to watch. The acting is so dreadful I though I was watching a diff film instead. The actors are sweaty all the time and whoever wrote the script, should not be very proud of it. Commenting on the edition will be useless since I would have to describe the whole thing again. This movie is just awful, not to be taken seriously whatsoever.
But what I consider the worst part of everything, is the people who are friends with the director or the cast, that offend everyone who disagrees with the ''10 star rating''. Seriously, do you really think your movie is worth it?, why would you spam your own movie so people would realize right away the high ratings are completely fake?
Have a little of self-respect and grow up.
Slasher Party (2019)
It takes itself too seriously
I can't remember when was the last time I saw a film of this quality. Even the worst ones are watchable if you see them in the comical level, but this one can't even reach that.
For the acting in this movie, I thought I was about to see a porno at any moment, but nothing close happened but a 30 second scene of forced lesbian make out and some breast.
The writing and directing could be done by anyone who's over 10 years old.
Don't watch this, it's not worth your time.
Km 31-2 (2016)
Was it really necessary?
Not being the first one bad enough, they completely crossed the line making a sequel, which was far from bad, but ridiculous, absurd.
Sometimes bad movies are ok if you want to spend the night and just chill out, or maybe have some sound as background while you clean or do homework, but KM 31-2 is not even worth it the energy you spend turning the TV on.
No manches Frida (2016)
Meh
I usually have the 'opportunity' to see trailers on theaters almost every month and also catch tons of advertisement of the same matter even on Youtube adds. We're told to support national arts and cinema overall, but watching the kind of crap they have been producing, it's almost painful to bear.
This movie entertains, but sometimes it turns into some cringy moments where you can't find a place to hide, so you can avoid such shame. It's not different from other new mexican films like 'How to be a Latinlover', '3 Friends (also a remake)', or 'Treintona, Soltera y Fantástica': all just a bunch of insignificant movies, that you'd watch in a family night, just to pass the time, but nothing too serious.
Besides, the plot is somehow unreal and absurd. I've never seen a high school where you can throw feces to your professors, or that kind of stuff. The humor was silly but not extremely ridiculous, I must admit.
The movie is not too bad to deserve a review, it's just that there's a wide distribution of these irrelevant and pathetic films in Mexico, instead of supporting the art, the cinema which is really worth it, and no one cares about.
Life Is Sweet (1990)
The simple things, sometimes are the coolest.
I try not to rate a movie with a high score, usually because in a film there is more things to evaluate than a plot, (the thing most people let themselves get influenced by). That's why most of movies don't go up a 7 or 8, in the better of cases: the great majority is not worth it.
This film is charming and couldn't give it less than an eight.
The screenplay is just so well-written, you never feel you are bored while watching, despite the absurd of the simplicity in the story: a family, two loving parents, a lame friend, a swindler and a couple of interesting twins. Really, what makes this film awesome, is the mix between these facts, the little things that happen to all of them and the visuals, (I would also mention the outstanding acting performances). The camera work and edition is professionally done, as well.
Mike Leigh, despite being more a ''theatrical person'' (you can notice this tendency all throughout the film), and being this his 4th movie, well, he knew how to use the cinematographic tools he had in a particular artistic way.
The Reader (2008)
Entertains but nothing new about it, (pretentious).
There were certain moments while watching this film, where I couldn't stop thinking ''Oh, God really?''.
Since the first minutes in, you can notice the rush: three minutes and you have the first sex scene, and twenty minutes after that, you begin with the breaking-up part. The way scenes are sequenced don't let you enjoy them not even a little bit. This broken way to tell the story, ruins everything else, that only can be saved by Winslet's performance.
Also, the absurdity of dialogs, (sometimes turning a little cringy to hear the whole conversation), can't just get away.
I suppose people actually like The Reader, because it ''moves'' with a 'human topic' that can't be forgotten, but there's a moment after you hear it that much in movies, books and everything else, that you have to look beyond it: you try to find structure, form and technique. This movie doesn't work due to its lack of proper ways to be narrated and its pretentious 'pseudo-philosophical' exagerations about important topics like guilt and moral values, just far away from true human nature and compassion; I talk about the last scene when the writer/jew/surviver says the horrors that happened to the Jewish people were the worst thing that has happened ever, (but logically, that's not true, people still suffer and had suffered before all along human history, and giving that importance to this, avoids total human empathy, not even close to reality).
I read somewhere that this movie is actually a good film-adaptation of the book, so I can't imagine how painfully must be to read it.
Sommaren med Monika (1953)
The subtle beginning of Bergman's existentialism we all know
Sommaren med Monika is the 12th movie in Bergman's career, and until now we have seen a similar pattern in all of his movies. This Hollywood-looking style in the story, written in Bergman's hidden poetic way with great camera work. From Musik i Mörker, to Kris and Det regnar på vår kärlek.
This film is the subtle beginning of the period of movies that shakes us to the core, and makes us wander.
The dark and realistic twist in this movie, shows us this is not the Bergman that writes happy endings, but the real ones. Since this year (1953), he still makes movies of the kind (Hollywood type) but not entirely like before, and after one empty year (1956), Det sjunde inseglet (1957) is released.
This movie is totally worth it to notice this change in his career, besides, this is Harriet Andersson's first movie with him, she was only 20.
Spotlight (2015)
Not only physical abuse, it's spiritual abuse too.
It's important to spread the truth. Always.
We've been hiding for so many years a lot of topics worth knowing, but this, is a very shocking one. Child abuse is not only a crime but an abomination. It doesn't matter who or when, nor even why.
For a long time I've heard from family and friends a wide set of justifications: ''well, it's something that happens'', ''don't worry, they take those priests out of church'' but it doesn't happen.
We shouldn't expect this from any citizen, especially from the religious people who are supposed to spread love and good values. That's why we are so afraid to accuse them, it's a challenge even to ourselves. ''How to say 'no' to God?, right?''
The film is excelent representing this topic in a subtle way, especially for those who are quite sensitive. The acting, the photography, the atmosphere. I enjoyed this film. It deserved that Oscar.
