Facing the Shadows (2016)
Brings home the agony of addiction
Most people know about the problem of addiction and even the consequences of it. And many comprehend the problems it creates for family, children, the workplace and friends. But not everyone sees or understands the agony of it for the addict. This film is direct and bold and just long enough. Ralph Scott is superb!
Baseline (2010)
Gangster movie with a twist
A friend invited me to watch this. Not a fan of "just about gangsters" films, I was impressed by the depth of the plot. Freddie Connor, Dexter Fletcher, Jamie Forman, Zoe Tapper brought it to life with masterful acting. There's a real story here of hard times and loyalty. The directing and production and score were first rate. This film has garnered a lot of attention but it deserves even more! A really first rate film.
Luna Park (2015)
Nostalgia and moving on
This film is simply beautiful. It blends nostalgia and moving on -- sentiments experienced by many adults. The settings are lovely. The direction and dialog are spot on. The acting Is exceptionally strong; these two have great talent. And the music is haunting and stays with you. The production in New York shows off the serenity that can be found in that bustling city. A good film to watch when you want to reflect on the rhythms of growing to maturity.
Sipped (2016)
Having a cup of coffee unfurls a magical moment of interpersonal control
Witty, high-spirited and completely entertaining! A great short film when you need a laugh. The acting and photography are first rate and the concept is imaginative. It adds a whole new dimension to thinking about having your morning cup of coffee. And it hints at issues of interpersonal control. I highly recommend it whenever you want to escape the daily humdrum.
Heather's Painting (2017)
Coming to grips with the loss of a child
This film tackles a hard topic: a family's coming to grips with the loss of a child. It doesn't miss a beat. The plot, dialog, direction, acting, setting, lighting, staging are outstanding. And the music is perfect as it supports the plot and the emotions involved in grief and making peace with it. It is no wonder that this film won so many awards for so many aspects. All of the parts of it work together and touch your soul.
