KDD - Kriminaldauerdienst (2007)
Completely underestimated series - one of the best that German television has ever produced.
Years before the wave of excellently written and casted TV shows spill over to Europe via HBO, Netflix and Amazon, there were already high-quality series to watch.
Especially "KDD - Kriminaldauerdienst" stands out here.
"KDD" is stirring, exciting, dramaturgically great and well played. Actors, director, screenplay - everything fits together and leads to a series that was rightly showered with awards.
Unfortunately, only a few viewers had recognized this. On a broadcaster that is known until today mainly for television for pensioners, before the time of the streaming breakthrough unfortunately "KDD" had no chance
Harvey (1950)
Heartwarming, magical and simply great
Don't we know all these strange, but nevertheless somehow lovable people? Loveable as long as we can look at them with a self-defined tolerance distance, admire them, smile at them or even take them completely to our hearts? What do you do with probably the nicest person in the world, who obviously has lost his marbles (background could be justified psychologically as well as medically quite precariously), but has just as - and only so - found his happiness and even accomplished the miracle of turning his environment so charmingly and never intriguingly or manipulatively to his side.
A masterpiece of the grey zone tightrope act, this makes "Harvey", in a very unusual and timeless way, a clever yet worthy of discussion film, a perfectly timed screwball comedy and a warm-hearted social parable. James Stewart, with such a rarely seen, gentle good-naturedness 44 years before Forrest Gump, anticipates his role, but with a much more exciting, ambivalent and not completely decoded profile. This movie is absolutely worth seeing, something for the heart and can definitely be called special.
Chernobyl (2019)
Excellent show, great acting a drama series that can't be praised enough.
What a great show. From the first minute the show is exciting, thrilling and shocking. Especially because it's not an imaginary story, but a good description of the terrible accident of 1986 and its consequences. Chernobyl gets under your skin, makes you think and pays tribute to unknown people who really deserve to be called heroes. Anyone who loves great cinema and great television should have seen Chernobyl.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Best episode of the season - if you let yourself get involved
Even though I haven't been satisfied with the development of the series this season, never before has Game of Thrones, which is often accused of glorifying violence, shown so ruthlessly how cruel and brutal war is. That innocent and children die, that people have to experience unimaginable suffering and that war is nothing heroic. Therefore a good episode in my opinion.
