The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
First time ever!
The first time ever I skipped all the bad reviews to find the 10s. I'm usually looking for an opinion opposite of mine and man was it hard finding some positive reviews! Watch the movie if you have HBO, otherwise don't give them anymore money. They found a clever way to bring back the two leads and after that you are put through two hours of people asking questions that everyone else in the scene has the answer to. If you like puzzled face acting then this is the movie for you. I love to rant about this more but that would involve spoilers. Off the top of my head I enjoyed Transpotting 2. Otherwise I'm grasping at straws at 20 year old sequels that I liked. ...I really really want to talk about my dislikes so please leave a comment If you'd like to hear them.
Cherry (2021)
I'm a Iraq war veteran living in Cleveland
Luckily I waited to 2012 to check into the VA (which in the last decade made massive improvements). The war zone location was so real looking I had to check on locations. Now I'm a Marine so can't speak on behalf of the Army training scenes but the war part was pretty spot on. It took me a minute to also realize this film is in Cleveland my home city. I can't speak for the drug usage but the PTSD was very accurate. I was infantry and saw what the Navy medics had to do and was glad not be them. Much respect. I'll have to read the autobiography to see the difference between movie and book. The rest of the film is heavily on robbing banks and drug use at a very R rated pace. The movie is divided into chapters which could be there own episodes in a mini series.
I quite liked everything about this film. It's going to be hard to watch Spider-Man back in high school after this but I'm excited for Tom Holland's future acting career. The movie sprinkles in a little unnecessary hidden humor and a lot of it runs off a little Good Fellas-ish with the 4th wall being broken as the lead talks directly into the camera. I highly recommend this movie but please go into as if you are about to watch requiem of a dream meets platoon.
There's been major advancements in the VA, at least Ohio's. If you have severe PTSD, there's help both mentally and financially.
Now I need a stiff drink, thanks for reading.
War Horse (2011)
It could have been a good movie...
First off, this is a European movie, why is everyone speaking English! Most the movie should be in German and French. I just can't get passed that. It would help push the narrative of this horses journey as the whole movie is about how many times the animal changes owners.
I gave it 4 stars solely based on set design and overall tone of the movie. I'm still debating lowering it. Uniforms were muddy and great and you get a sense that it's early 1900s fast.
I get this plot was written from a children's play, so why push the war scenes?? If this was meant for an adult audience it would have been great to press an R rating with battle scenes like in every other war movie. Some parts of this movie are so fluffy I felt like I was watching a cartoon. Soooo you're stuck between to graphic for children and not enough realism for adults.
The acting is good but the script is choppy and you don't feel much connection with the characters because they are short lived.
I just would have liked more out this movie. It had great potential. Go watch Seabiscuit if you love horses or 1917 if you desire a period piece war movie. This movie tried to combine both those titles and just fell flat.
Oh yeah, did I mention it's all in English!!!
We Are Your Friends (2015)
Only for an LA Lifestyle audience
If you read the the back of the VHS box prior to viewing then you can expect everything you got. This is a movie for a particular audience and it works great for them. If you're a dairy farmer from Wisconsin then you might want to ask Blockbuster for a refund. Zac and Emily have good chemistry and Efron's childhood buddies add an extra layer of script to the movie. That being said, if you're into the LA club scene this is your movie and if you're not keep scrolling on Netflix maybe watch Trains Planes and Automobiles for the 16th time.
Frances Ferguson (2019)
I got to the end
This movie would have been great as a short film. Unfortunately it's not. There's humor but it's brief and requires either to have a familiar friend/family member like the lead character to reflect on or a six pack of wine coolers.
Robin Hood (2018)
I just loved it
This movie is very historically accurate. Costumes are just spot on for the time. It gets away a little from the true story of Robin Hood but that's just to fit more action in it! And boy is he quick with that arrow. I can't wait to do some Jamie Fox manscaping when I get home!
