It's so bad it's embarrassing.
Despite that, Ana Polvorosa defends the indefensible. What the poor thing does is so difficult, that it should be studied in dramatic arts academies.
This film is a clear example of the decadence and disproportionate cronyism of Spanish productions. That such nonsense has benefited from state aid to the cinema, indicates the scam that the usual ones have set up, and the endemic decadence of the national sector.
To begin with, the script is so bad that not even a 10-year-old could do worse. And to continue there is no rhythm, no meaning, no interest to get hooked on.
The only positive thing is that seeing a product so bad and so poorly made, it makes you reflect on your existence, and on your life. And it may even encourage you to do something, because if these people have managed to do such garbage, surely you can do something better.
Seriously, don't watch it.

The plot is dull, empty and flat.
The story is the tipically, and over used, bad guys abuse small town, and unexpected hero apears, to make justice in a unjustified long and predictable way.
The scenario of a small italian town near the coast is stoneshing beautiful. And there were some beautiful shots showing the area. But thats no enought to maitain the attention of the viewers.
Denzel is always right, and delivers a strong and powerful performance, even in this ods conditions. The rest of the caracter, specially the bad guys, are so flat that leave no print at all, and you never care for them.
This is a movie to skip. Do your self a favor and go watch anything elese.

The film is a vain effort in search of depth, and instead it is a long string of failed attempts at transgression.
It is very difficult to empathize with the flat characters and the obvious resolution. The hackneyed flourishes, and the attempts to surprise us narratively, fail to maintain the difficult balance. The film ends with a sequence that borders on the ridiculous.
Only suitable for modern people anxious to seek meaning where isn't.
Nearly two hours feel excessive, specially when you are waiting for the end of the movie since the first half hour.
Didn't read the book, but it has to be better, beacuse worse is nearly impossible.
The best thing of the movie are the two main actors, who have done a pretty good job.
