Generation Z (2024)
Disappointing
This show sounded right up my street and I couldn't wait to watch. 3 episodes in and I've given up. The younger characters are mostly just really annoying and unsympathetic. I thought the acting standard was pretty poor. Same goes for the 'boomers' some great acting talent there and yet not one good performance. The 'Gen Xers' were slightly more likable but came across as weak and a bit useless.
Any attempt to satirise the issues they were attempting to raise was destroyed by the talking zombies. A decent program wouldn't need all the explaining that was going on.
It lacked tension and humour and the stereotyping was lazy and lacked subtlety. What a shame as this has so much potential.
Operation Mincemeat (2021)
Could have been so much more
I really wanted to like this film and it passed the time well enough but somehow missed the mark.
I was particularly interested in this film as the small town I am from had slight connection to the subterfuge that took place, a lot of the detail of this seemed to be missing from the film.
Instead we got served up with a dull and unnecessary romance side plot which made the film boring in parts and slowed down any momentum. Not sure how much of the romance aspect was fictional but either way, no need to labour over it, just touch upon in if needs be.
Other parts were better and the ending was moving. It's based on such an amazing story which deserved a better telling which is a shame really.
