In this awesome horror documentary, the narrator introduces the viewer to various vampire myths and legends. Some of the stories told are downright ghoulish, like that of Jacque de St. Germain and his hoard of bottled blood, and some are more grisly, like the buried corpse of a young girl, named Mercy Brown, that refuses to decompose. But, as different as these stories are, they all have one thing in common. They defy reason and serve to remind the viewer that the line between fact and fiction is a blurred one. Are Vampires Real is well-researched and organized, and the graphics are phenomenal. If you are fascinated by the comings and goings of the supernatural creatures known as vampires, and their blood-lusty ways, and want to see a film with intelligence and grit, this is the one for you! Nicely done Kyle Hester.
What an engaging history of Lake Lanier! The phantom ships, the unexplained swimming accidents, the desecrated underwater cemeteries, & the flooded town with rotting structures that remain intact enough to entangle and sometimes drown curious divers were all fascinating. After watching this film, I found it easy to believe that no matter how calm and peaceful the waters of the lake seemed to be on the surface, this place, which is filled with so much death and destruction, is indeed a place that restless spirits would flock to. I appreciated that the film offered a nice balance of fact & speculation, which allowed me to form my own opinion about the strange goings-on. The way the filmmaker linked the Lady in the Blue Dress to the submerged bridge was not only interesting, but gave the film continuity. Stunning cinematography. L loved the vivid description of the murky water ("diving into pea soup"- how cool). Well done Kyle Hester.
What a delightful assortment of monsters, ghosts, and demons! All of the stories were well narrated and totally held my interest. The steady crackle of the burning campfire, and the images of each of the haunted locations in the background, added an extra layer of creepiness to this film. One of my favorite stories was the one with the character Jonathan. I loved Jonathan's realization (the one he has when he's knee-deep in malevolent spirits in the supermarket) that "Ice cream is a force of good." Nothing like a humorous truth to lighten up the mood. I look forward to seeing more of Kyle Hester's work.
