Dead Silence (2007)
Supernatural Series Copycat?
I really enjoyed this movie. It had just the right amount of everything to make it a great scare. The only thing that I would have to comment about it, and not in a bad way, is that it sure reminded me of the CW television series SUPERNATURAL, where the good-looking brothers drive in their classic car to a creepy small town, in order to unravel yet another perplexing and scary mystery stemming from a big town murder. I guess imitation is a form of flattery - but I'm not sure who is imitating who in this case.
While I did like this movie, I actually liked the alternate opening and ending that is on the DVD even more than what made it into the theatrical release.
Before I saw this movie, I really wasn't expecting very much, but I was impressed by the story and the acting. A good mix of scary atmosphere, a bit of gore, and some good comic relief in spots. Definitely a "must-see" for horror and ghost story fans!

Worth your time!
All I can say is, pop some popcorn, turn off the lights and turn up the sound. This movie will entertain and creep you out. The actors do a great job, (especially the little girl), without the traditional overacting you find in this genre. This film is stylishly filmed and directed. Though the film covers some universal paranormal themes, it is still perplexing, surprising and very satisfying. The ending is often predictable in these types of movies, however I didn't see this one coming. I would love to see the little girl in other roles. Her acting is Oscar worthy. M. Night and Steven should use this "sweet" little one in one of their movies. You probably think I'm overstating it, but just watch and tell me if she doesn't do her job creeping you out better than you could imagine! Don't miss this one! It's worth your time!

Wasn't expecting much...and then....
I went to this movie under protest with my 8 year old son! Okay, I had an attitude! The movie trailers looked stupid. The original wasn't all that hot. So I braced myself to suffer through yet another LAME kid's movie, like Shark's Tale, out of love for my child! Bought the popcorn, Coke and candy and settled back to enjoy HIS enjoyment, and BOY was I surprised!!!
Not only was this movie shot in the traditional Disney style of "bright and airy", but it was ACTUALLY funny and entertaining! I found myself laughing out loud, which I rarely do at movies, comedy routines or jokes. Just ask my family! I'm too critical whether it makes sense or not, to see the humor. But this movie made me lose myself in it's genuine innocence and light-hearted feel. I was a kid again, just enjoying the ride! My son and I had a blast! And isn't that what you want in a family movie? To bring your family together in a mutually satisfying fantastical experience?
The last time I enjoyed myself this much at a family movie was when I saw Pirates of the Caribbean. My criteria for if the movie was successful at it's job, which was entertainment, is how I feel when it's ending. Am I relieved, ambivalent or disappointed? I was disappointed when this was over! I wanted more!
Tim Allen was GREAT, by the way! He, as well as the rest of the cast, with the exception of Downey, played their parts with just the right amount of comedic enthusiasm, never over the top!
Overall an endearing movie! I think I'll use my granddaughter as an excuse to go see this one again!
Take your family, young and old, and enjoy the ride!

Can I have my 2 hours back PLEASE???
I watched this movie with anticipation of something of value. The A-list cast listed gave the illusion of something good. MAN...was I duped!!! This movie was one of the biggest time wasting disappointments of my life!!! However, there were a few scenes of value. For example, there was the fiery flamenco dancing scene, Salma Hayek making an adorable attempt at scatting and John Malchovich's beginning scenes were fun and interesting. Otherwise, this movie is basically a stupid, lame attempt at "art." I wouldn't waste your time on this so-called "movie." Use your time for something more productive, like cleaning your cat's litter box or cleaning your toilet!!!
