Paul T. Goldman (2023)
21st Century Woody Allen
This is a true farce in the strictest terms. Edgy and moronic like The Office. It's kind of like Woody Allen meets Steve Carol and they try to outdo each other. It makes huge fun of Jews and puts that stereotype in a whole new light. It brings paranoia and bad life choices almost rewarding. Being self-absorbed takes on new meaning and mediums are all knowing heros. At least the law enforcement officers realize that this guy is delusional and pass him off. Anyone can learn a lesson from this mess. Kind of entertaining if you are a Woody Allen fan. I wish I could have my time back. Not as advertised.
Soldier's Heart (2020)
Intriguing
Moves along slowly but worth the watch. I didn't even recognize Val Kilmer, and he played such a small role. Hokey everyone rides off into the sunset end but leaves a good feeling.
Arkansas (2020)
Terintino like
Well written and a hoot to watch. I wish there could of been some action between frog (Vaugn) and Bright (Malcovich) as these are two of my favorites. Overall some people might find it Shakey, but the performances are solid and the quirky characters believable and enduring.
I wish more of this style of noir-fantasy fair was out there.
Brimstone (2016)
Totally awesome
A great story told well. The Dutch people who put this together did an amazing job. Well done.
Radius (2017)
Great low budget film
I went in to this with skepticism, and was pleasantly surprised how well it kept me watching. The storyline was unlike anything I had ever seen. I wish the ending was a little different, but, it came unexpected. I highly recommend this movie for just good entertainment. Charlotte Sullivan put on a remarkable performance of a tough role. Enjoy
Beacon Point (2016)
Slow, sad, confusing. Those are the good points
It is really hard to accept the making of films like this. After suffering the most antics of 5 losers doing unbelievably stupid things one after the other, there is the hint of aliens and Indians, non of which are explained. This fiasco make the Which project look like a Oscar winner. How I lasted for the whole thing proves that I must not have a life at all. Raee Oliver was the only decent act, and that's said carefully. The movie advertised Apalation Trail, but it didn't mange to make in to the movie till the last 5 minutes. This film kind of reminded me of Deliverance, that is back woods Georgia. I don't know if anything could have helped this script, it was lost from the get-go.
Centurion (2010)
Perfect in every way
I just watched this movie for the 2nd time and it was so well cast, directed and shot that I have to hand out cudoes to all involved. Now, ( mind you) I am not sure of historical accuracy, but, I think that this represents the stuggle in Great Brittan with Roman occupancy and the reason for the construction of Hadrens wall, as the people of Northern Brittan were uncontrollable, thus they in the end left.
Copperhead (2013)
Great perspective of view not often represented.
Most civil war movies come with the Southern respective, and the South suffered more than the North as almost all battles happened on Southern turf (ok Gettysburg was in Pennsylvania). The South really gets most of the attention. There is so coverage of riots in The larger Northern cities against the war and conscription, riots and the like, Lincoln's suspension of habeas orpus(sp). To have a film of people off the beaten trail like upstate New York, and their different views of such things as slavery. They did not understand that it was just an economic necessity in the agrian South to have labor that no one else would do to be economicly feasible. I believe that most slave holders hated the practice, but to not have it meant not being able to make a go of it.
I n the North things were much different and a man and his family could make a go of it. The residents still found things to scrapple about but life went better.
This film explores these people's differences.
Love & Mercy (2014)
Missed the important thing
This film leaves a depressing feel to the life of Brian Will on. If it's at all viable, his life was a total waste and the lifestyle of his brothers was angelic which was not the case. He twas manipulated by almost every person he came in contact with. The situation with the Beachboys was so complicated that one film cannot cover the Dynamics of it all. I feel that this film does injustice to the facts.
The Highwaymen (2019)
Ahbsolutly great
An aging Kevin Costner and Woddy Harlson teamed up on an epic adventure, dosen't get much better than that. This reminds me of "Cowboy Way" with Woddy and Keifer Southerland in it's begining. But really, Costner as ex Texas Ranger (retired) Frank A Hammer was a true delight. I had allways had trouble putting a face on Hammer and the only other one I had was the Bonnie and Clyde movie with Warren Beatty.
The whole production was outstanding without once showing any actions of Bonnie and Clyde and concentrating on Hammers struggles with FBI and other law enforcement agencies. Cathy Bates role as Texas Governor was perfect. A movie that should not be missed
Hannibal: The Man Who Hated Rome (2004)
Could have been a good documentary
The time spent on this documentary shows great insight. The cinematography was superb and the actors believable. The story line holds your attention, however, the music background is so loud that you cannot hear the dialogue, which ruins the whole thing. If you can use some method of lowering the music volume this would make watching this very enjoyable.
Heathens and Thieves (2012)
Edge of seat knuckle bender
Great western, absolutely keeps you wondering whats next. Acting is superb by all. Charcter portrail is genuine and all are beliveable. Cinematography is good. A lot of twists and turns for a western and it keeps you wondering and trying to anticipate the next move. Unpredictable and all characters have flaws that were not anticipated. Fun to watch and end is not a longed for thing.
WiseGirls (2002)
Charlie's Angles vs. The Mob
Oh-Boy. What an interesting concept. It almost worked. This cute little film was fun to watch, and it had me going for a while. It's not till the last 25 minutes that the story goes completely off the road. saying that I still enjoyed the ride. The characters were played well and the actors all fit in their assigned rolls, again up until the last part where the whole thing just lost itself. If you like mobster films and don't mind a little tounge in cheek, this film might be for you. I don't feel like I wasted my time, however, I am glad that l didn't have to pay for it.
Roadie (2011)
This movie missed the chance to be about the title
Boy, I expected this film to have something about a roadie. I mean, after all it is titled Roadie, however there's nothing about a roadie. On the other hand there is a slow, boring movie about a slacker who has been away from his home town for 20-25 years (it's hard to get a firm idea because both are mentioned). The dialogue is all about this guy and he gets misstreated all over by the same people who misstreated him a couple of decades earlier and his senile mother and neighbors are all fixing to die, for the better I might add. The ending leaves you depressed and confused. In the end you wished the movie would have been about the life of a working roadie my
Circle the Wagen (2013)
The original "Dumb and Dumber"
Is this supposed to be a take off of"On the Road" vs "Dumb and Dumber" vs just how incredibly stupid can one person be and still get sympathy from a huge amount of people. This guy is so frustrating, his parents should be severly slapped and sterilized so there is no way that they can continue to degrade the gene pool. He should also be sterilized. If this was put out as a fictional comedy, it would have been more reasonable, but, put out as reality, come on, get real. This is one of those productions that make me feel that there is truly no hope for humanity
Bird Box (2018)
Tough to even get through
As a huge fan of John Malkovich and a large fan of Sandra Bullock, I expected a lot. Well I have to say that this film was extremely dissapointing. It went from being promising to rediculous and just plain boring, and yet I hung on till the end to see if it could justify itsiself. The whole idea of Boy and Girl bring raised for several years after the apocalypse by a woman with no supplies or ability get them was totally obsurd. The pace of the film with the flashback style was as confusing and anal as a Stven King porely done novel. The end while wellcomed, left a bad taste in my mouth. See it if you must, but I don't recommend it.
Relentless (2018)
Starts slow
This is a sleeper of a movie. With heros that have to apparent motive other than something to break the boredom. Real scumbag bad guys who all get it in the end. Keeps you on your seat edge most of the time. Some "Why did they do that", but for the most part easy to follow. A good watch all in all.
Jolene (2008)
Well crafted
I didn't know what to expect from this film, but I found it to be very well written and acted. It was believeable and moved at a great pace. It kind of reminded me of Sissy Spachek in Coal Miners Daughter.
Vehicle 19 (2013)
Dumb as dumb can be
Badly written. Even Paul Walker looks like he's fustraited with this crap. Movies like this should carry warning lables. No one can be this naive. Forest Gump goes to South Africa.
Camera Store (2017)
Could have been better
This movie, though complex seemed dated because of several factors. One, you cannot smoke indoors anywhere anymore in places like stores and malls. Two, mall are and have passed into almost obscurity now in 2018. This movie almost seems to be set in the 1970"s, 1980's and 1990"s. Three, Some of the dialogue also comes from that era. Yet the theme of the dissapearing camera shops (especially film cameras) catering to the general public rings true. Difficult watch on that respect. Though some enternaning moments, writing and character developement are generally lacking and the movie seems to drag often with wasted dialogue.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015)
Great humor
Very addicting after you learn the characters. Writing is simple and relative. Humor is so quick it is on fire.
Mr. Woodcock (2007)
Embarrassing
Even with a great cast ( ie. Billy Bob and Susan) the writing is so bad that this is hard to endure.
Flashback (1990)
Terrific
Probably one of the the best 60's-70's movies ever. I am 65 and the theme and soundtrack took me back in spades. Well done, never a dull moment.
Sophie and the Rising Sun (2016)
Powerfull, emotional
Great story and acting. Time accurate. A real enjoyable film.
