Sorry to Bother You (2018)
A great pleasure !
Powerful and fun ! This movie is inspiring at so many levels. For once they thought about the scenario before directing the movie. Actors are perfect and the editing is great.
Newness (2017)
Modern love
What a Movie! Let's get out of the way, the arty stuff in the editing, it seems a little pretentious and if you're not into indie movie it can be pointless and boring. But I'm into it and the cast is great. Now the movie is really well written and did I say that the cast is great? You feel like you're living this relationship. More than a movie it's a guide in the jungle of modern love.
La ch'tite famille (2018)
So French
Better than a documentary it's a declaration of love to a certain idea of France. It's a movie about success, love and shame. The photography isn't amazing but it's well edited and fun. However, all the fun lies in the regional language, so I don't know how it feels for someone who doesn't understand French.
Calibre (2018)
Boys will be boys
It's a little village in the country. It's the last time apart before fatherhood. This movie succeeds brilliantly in showing the metamorphosis of a young man in adulthood. How friendships works. When a movie is perfect, you can explore and reflect about life and choices. Caliber deserves to be seen.
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Glorious
What a movie! It's so fresh, funny and strange! That's a perfect recipe for a cult movie. When you love vampire, you want to spend some time in the darkness with them. You want to know how they live, how it is. The movie is directed as if you were with them in the shadow. It's definitely the kind of movie you want to watch again and again.
Fahrenheit 451 (2018)
disappointing
Fahrenheit 451 for dummy. The beginning is quite good. Michael Shannon is amazing as usual, but he cannot bear the weight of this movie by himself. You don't have to watch it. You don't need to watch it. Don't watch it!
The Strangers (2008)
Ok
Great actors! Great scenario!... I'm not really convinced by the direction.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
Good job
It is a well directed movie. They're not trying to reinvent the genre. They know their horror references, and they do a great job in a new era of horror with mobile and teenage and ... Watch it! It's fun and effective. I had a nice time. It's not very scary but it's enjoyable.
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Not a Marvel Hero
Don't get me wrong I love a good Marvel hero! And I've got a great joy watching a good action movie. So I was ready to watch something good, something fun, something like a Django in a train... It wasn't it. So I understand that a lot of people feel cheated and disappointed. I don't.
This a great movie. It reminds me of Elephant in a good way. We feel like we're with the boys. There's something real in this movie. It seems that Clint Eastwood is free to do whatever ever he wants and this freedom is inspiring. There's purity in this movie instead of the darkness that news, post apocalyptic movie and Tv show spread all over our mind. It's an author movie, like it or not it's great!
Death Wish (2018)
Surprisingly good
What a great time! That's what I call a great entertainment. I was scared to watch another bad remake of a cult movie. But Charles Bronson could be proud of Bruce Willis. It's not quite like the original: a little more politically correct. However, Eli Roth offers a good direction with an interesting editing.
Tomb Raider (2018)
Disappointing
I love the cast and this new Lara Croft. The scenario isn't totally bad either. But special effect aren't great, the movie is pretty unrealistic, flashback are boring and it's a bad Indiana Jones. There's so many sins in this movie that it's difficult to defend it. I'm sorry for the actors it's always sad to watch great actors trapped in a very bad movie. I want to love it but I can't.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Silent Cloverfield
A quiet Place is a very well directed and played movie. There's a great photography and the scenario is interesting. It's a good movie. However, the movie miss a « je ne sais quoi ». As a result I can't say it's frightening and disturbing like the conjuring or the Blair Witch project in his time. I left this movie as I came. It's a shame because everything is well done they just need an evil spirit to put the fear into me. Good work, but scarring people is not an easy job.
Geostorm (2017)
Gravity for boys
It seems that someone saws Gravity and though: I can do better.
If you were bored watching gravity and love watching earthquakes and global warming catastrophe this movie is definitely for you. Now you have to forget mediocre special effect and average acting and globally something you have already seen a billion time but whatever. It's a boy thing I couldn't understand.
The House (2017)
Why not?
It's nicely amoral...The suburbs turned hood in a funny way. The thing is that you have to love those comedians if not it will be difficult. It's Weeds meets Parks and Rec in a casino. It's a point of view. Not great but why not?
Wish Upon (2017)
Effective and unpretentious
This movie brings us back to the nineties' horror movie like scream, I know what you did last summer, final destination... It's a teen movie, it's fun and effective. I had a nice time and it felt good.
Future World (2018)
So bad it hurts
That's just bad. It's painful to watch. It's a bad ripoff of the bad batch and Mad Max. I mean WHY? Was there no one to tell them to stop this boring project. Maybe it's a joke... And not a good one.
Whiplash (2014)
Magical
As a drummer student and Buddy Rich fan, I love this movie. As a movie lover I cannot forget my love for drums and will say that the music is fantastic and the editing is electrifying. However, it is because I love the story, the great performance of the actors that I will say that the movie is unequal. Some sequences are magical and sometimes it feels like another movie. This could be a pure perfection... All I've got it's a good movie. For my part Whiplash is a classical.
Whip It (2009)
Cult
Inspiring movie! Sure the direction is not great, the scenario isn't very original but it gives you joy. For one time that girls aren't stereotypical it feels good. There's something poetic in this womanhood. I love it because it's empowering and if you don't like this movie you hate women. Fact.
D'Ardennen (2015)
Sinister
That's a perfect movie if you think life is too great and you want to be depressed. The photography is great. Actors act perfectly. This movie is so true, it doesn't look like a movie at all. Just a deep descent into the darkness. This movie is really depressing... Great movie nevertheless.
Cargo (2017)
Zombies and baby
A family with a baby in a zombie land, what can go wrong? If you want to visit Australia in a post apocalyptic world this movie is for you! On this survival trip you'll get: great landscapes, stunning light and Aboriginals culture. For my part I didn't plan to visit Australia and I was a bit bored. The idea of a baby in a post apocalyptic world was great but the direction was too contemplative for my taste.
Cooties (2014)
Teachers deserve respect
Delightful and funny! There's nothing very original in this comedy but that's what it makes it so pleasant to watch. It's a zombie movie with children and people who are not afraid of them... Teacher deserves indeed all of our respect! It's really great written and directed. There's some length that a great editing makes forget. If you want to have fun, you're in the right place with this movie.
Shivers (1975)
Among us
That's a good horror movie! Naked women, sex, violence what else?! All we ask in a horrific movie is to be scared, and disturbed in our comfort zone. There's no doubt that David Cronenberg knows how to do it. Great references to George Romero in The crazies and Night of the living dead! There's a lot to tell about this movie like the curse of infidelity. But let's just say it's a good movie to make out with a crush... Or not.
A History of Violence (2005)
Violence-ish
The title is History of Violence so I was prepared to watch violence. Instead of that it was a story about family value: love, acceptance and forgiveness. I didn't sign for that, but why not after all. Family is great, let's all be happy in a sweet American town where everyone takes care of each other. One good point : nice scene of fight.
Les tontons flingueurs (1963)
A very good time
This is a great comedy where everyone knows his work and do it perfectly. There's something of the cartoon in the direction. It's interesting that's this movie of 1963 is still funny today. George Lautner created with Michel Audiard a perfect melancholy remedy.
Valerie a týden divu (1970)
Dream and pleasure
Once upon a time there was filmmakers free to do whatever they wanted and it was glorious! This movie is purely refreshing. Between Nosferatu, Lolita and Alice, there's this erotic fantasy. Freedom without judgment. I'm not sure I understood everything, but isn't it the point? Like a dream a little bit dizzy a little bit confused. It was weird and magical. Valerie and her week of wonders is the best Alice I've ever seen. This movie is a delightful experience.
